My question about this is what portal opens up to FTL? The well? The beans are confusing because they take you to both places and it was never really clear how Cora and Hook got to SB with a bean but no compass.
The compass was needed with the portal made from leftover wardrobe ashes. You don’t need a compass when you use a fully functioning bean portal.
But then how did the bean know where to take Cora and Hook? We’ve seen it take people to SB and to NL. We assume it took Bae to NL as well because he was suddenly an orphan, but then how did Hook use it to get to NL? See my confusion?
This does seem like a plot hole! Maybe that’s the magic of the bean, as Phee suggested, that the bean knows, but the enchanted wood portal didn’t “know” where to take you unless directed.

Bae thought, “I don’t want to lose my Papa and be all alone in the world,” and it sent him where Lost Boys go. Cora said, “Storybrooke, here we come,” and it took them to Storybrooke. I imagine any time a Giant used a bean, or any time anyone who stole a Giant’s bean used it, they just had to think of the land they wanted to go to, and that’s where it took them.
The portal that Snow and Emma used to get home was a whole different brand of portal. Just like the wardrobe itself was its own brand of portal. Just like the hat is its own brand of portal. All the different types don’t work exactly the same.

Obviously they wanted to keep the audience in suspense whether or not Cora and Hook would make it to SB so they didn’t show us exactly how they did it, only that they used the Jolly Roger and the bean.
I’d really like a scene in S3 where Rumple is teaching Emma magic and discusses exactly how all the different portals work."He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"April 17, 2013 at 11:49 am #186663surayyaParticipantThere should be a compass on the Jolly Roger- it’s a old sailing ship- that would answer that question 😉
Also & I cant double check this right now as I my S1 of Once is on another HD, but didn’t Blue give young Bae a ‘green’ bean, while Hook used a clear/translucent bean- maybe different beans take you different places? Aside from that, I agree with Phee- they take you were you ‘want’ to go.Wow, just WOW! Have finished reading all 101 pages over 2 days & my head’s spinning from so much info, in so little time lol 😉

Also, special effects scenes cost money, and if they’ve already shown the ship going down a portal before in The Crocodile, it’s redundant to waste time and money doing another scene that shows the same thing. And I’m guessing they’re saving the scene of the ship coming out of a portal for when they show Hook arriving in NL.

Nope, the beans match…

Hook’s: http://ladymanson.com/galleries/tv/TVNP/displayimage.php?pid=71578&fullsize=1April 19, 2013 at 8:16 pm #187247SlurpeezParticipantEmilie da Ravin describes much of what we already know about the finale but it’s nice to have real confirmation.
TVLINE | How would you tease the Season 2 finale?
Emilie DeRavin: It’s going to be big. One of the elements at play is, “Do we go home? Do we not?” There’s arguing about that, because that’s a pretty big decision. There’s also the matter of what’s going to happen to Storybrooke’s existence, seeing as it could be a bit in danger. We also see Hook’s ship again, in a pretty big way.

I never thought SB’s existence was in danger? If everyone leaves, does the town still exist? Or am I thinking too hard about what she said?"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"April 19, 2013 at 8:24 pm #187251SlurpeezParticipant@RumplesGirl wrote:

Or am I thinking too hard about what she said?I’m not so surprised about that; a while back there was a fan theory about SB disappearing (a la Brigadoon). So, I for one think SB could cease to exist while the core cast is having adventures in NL or EF. As long as the inhabitants are there, the town exists, but when everyone leaves, the town vanishes.

I’m guessing that if everyone in the town leaves then Storybrooke would just disappear and everything in the area would just be as it was before Regina’s curse brought them to our world
April 20, 2013 at 12:09 am #187335lisasParticipantPRE-FINALE EPISODES | As Season 2′s final four episodes continue to unspool uninterrupted, “You’re going to see all of our core characters front and center,” co-creator Adam Horowitz promises. Adds co-creator Eddy Kitsis, “Everything that’s happened to Snow and Charming and Emma and Regina and Rumple and Belle throughout this season… kind of interlocks as we get to the end, and we get to see them rise to some exciting challenges.” Our heroes’ obstacles include Tamara and Greg, whose agenda will soon be spelled out (“We intend to answer that mystery, but it’s really about what it means for Emma, Regina, Snow and everyone,” says Horowitz), a “really big” Episode 21 twist for the reunited Rumple and Bae and a major residency issue, as the magic beans become ripe for harvesting. “Obviously, Charming would like to go back home, but Snow is a bit hesitant because she wants Emma to go with,” Kitsis notes. “So… what will happen when Emma is faced with the option of going back?”
MAY 12 SEASON FINALE | It is Horowitz’s hope that “And Straight on ‘Til Morning” — which leads out of the penultimate episode “Second Star to the Right” — “will deliver on an epic scope of storytelling, but what we’re really excited about is the emotion that were going for between these characters and what they’re about to experience. We’re hopefully pushing them to a new place both emotionally… and maybe literally.”
