Yes, it certainly will depend on what version of NL the writers want to create for this show, but going off of what E & A hinted, this version of NL is going to be far from “cuddly” or “cute” (which is what Laine MacNeil just screams to me). So I doubt Tinker Bell is going to stray too far from the way she was portrayed in earlier version of Peter Pan, which is a sexy and jealous vixen fairy. I just re-watched a clip to confirm Tinker Bell is pretty much sultry. I just don’t see Laine MacNeil in that role (though I could be wrong).
Rather, I see Laine MacNeil as an optimistic mermaid who, despite coming from a darker version of NL where mermaids are usually dangerous, Ariel wants to leave the sea for what she thinks would be a better life on land. Her sisters may be vindictive mermaids who try to drown Wendy, but I think Ariel wants out of that life. Time will tell, and soon all will be made clear.

I don’t think Laine MacNeil’s youth precludes her from being Ariel. If anything, she best fits the profile in my mind, since Ariel was only 16. She’s got the right color hair, which would satisfy a lot of Disney “purists” who insist on Ariel being a red head. The Little Mermaid doesn’t necessarily have to include the pirate. I actually prefer Ariel be with the traditional Prince Eric. And Once doesn’t have to show Ariel getting married; it could just be a sweet teen romance. Finally, I agree that we may just see a glimpse of Ariel in the finale, and we’ll meet her more in S3.
Maybe they will do a romance between Henry and a young Ariel? Henry’s getting to that age when he’s starting to notice girls. There were hints of it with Gretel/Ava in True North. Maybe Henry’s first crush/girlfriend is a mermaid. It would give some nice funny bonding moments as Henry asks Neal, Charming and Rumple for advice on girls.
Henry: How did you meet mom?
Neal: She was stealing the stolen car I was living in.Henry: How did you meet Grandma?
Charming: She tried to steal from me, then when I tried to stop her, she hit me in the head with a rock.Henry: How did you meet Belle?
Rumple: I made a deal with her that she had to be my housekeeper forever in exchange for saving her town from ogres. Also there would be a nice moment over who should give Henry the “birds and the bees talk”
Emma: You should do it, you’re his father.
Neal: You’re his mother, you’ve known him longer than I have.
Emma: You’re a guy. It’s one of those guy things guys like to talk about.
Neal: You can give him the woman’s perspective.
Emma: I am not talking to my son about what’s happening…down there. It’s a guy thing. Just tell him what your father told you at that age.
Neal: I don’t want to scar the kid for life! All magic comes with a price!

Especially if there’s a fish (mermaid) involved. Awkward.
They couldn’t go the Ariel/Eric route with them though, because Henry is from our present day and we already have the story of the mermaid falling for her prince, so it’s already happened. Given that Henry is his own, new, fairytale character, I think that his twu wuv will ultimately have to be some character we don’t know of, or at least someone we don’t know of as having her own twu wuv. Would it be too early in the show’s run to introduce such a character now if she’s gonna be Henry’s endgame? I guess in TV you never have a guarantee about how long your show’s run will be, so maybe they would plant that seed now. Hmmmm.

Ever since Grace gave Henry a flirty look, I’ve had Henry and her pegged as being a teenage dream a few years from now.

Neal: I don’t want to scar the kid for life!ROFL I can totally picture that happening 😆 😆 😆 😆 That just brought a huge smile on my face and believe me after the day I had on Friday I really needed that.
Since I’ve been working on spec scripts and various script interpretations for the last several weeks because of a Storytelling class that I’m taking in college and due to the fact that it’s 4am, my brain is to fried from doing tons of homework and I’m still to wired to try and sleep I may just have to spin a series of The Birds And The Bees Talk One Shots where Emma,Neal, Charming, Snow, Rumple, Regina and Hook try to talk to a preteen Henry about the birds & the bees, in Neverland after he encounters the mermaid Ariel.

😆 He is going to launch shipping wars– Ava/Gretyl, Ariel and Grace …any other young girls they’ve shown?
