I thing Belle should stay too, she isn’t a main character in the show like Emma, Snow, etc. the orginal story is about Snow’s immediate family not about these side characters Belle, Hook, etc. they need to move the story forward with new characters.

Also, the fact that Rumbelle got to the final of Zimbio’s couple game shows that they are a very popular pairing, to separate them again after this season would be madness.

In fairness to this I would have voted for Snow and PC if I had known about this game. they really aren’t my favorite couple but I did vote for them only to get Once name out there more. 🙂

I don’t think of Belle and Hook as side characters, I consider them part of the main group. I agree that Snow’s family is at the center of the story but since day 1 the shows focus has always been on the other characters as well. I think if the main focus was only on the Charmings things would get quite dull. And the focus has been on the Charmings lately. I personally mainly watch for Rumpel, Regina, Belle, Hook, Nealfire so I’d like to see more of them right now than Snow and Charming.

I agree. The show’s focus has to be diverse. The story lines have to be diverse. If they’re not, viewers will lose interest. The same characters aren’t going to appeal to the same people on a consistent basis.

If Hook is not a main character, then I think he should be. He’s had a main-character impact on the audience. I wonder if the writers knew how much the audience would like him, when he was brought into the story?

As for Neal: I don’t think he’s made that impact yet, because he hasn’t had enough screen time….but there is huge potential there for him, as well. I like Neal, but for me, Hook’s in a category all his own.

There is an article with Daivd saying that his character will be better then what he was given in the past,(not so boring) he also stated that he was hoping to fight against couples in Season 3.

I think we can divide the characters four ways.

MAJOR MAJOR (the ones about whom the most stories are told and who have the most interaction with other characters): Emma, Snow, Charming, Regina and Rumple

minor MAJOR characters (still core cast with stories to be told abut themselves but perhaps also serve as plots for the MAJOR MAJOR characters) : Hook, Belle, Henry, and Ruby

MAJOR minor characters (characters who are not part of the core but have a interactions with the core more than other minor minor characters): Blue, Grumpy, and Granny and I guess Neal but I would bump him up to minor MAJOR in S3.

minor minor characters : the rest of the inhabitants of SB including the other dwarves and fairies.

As far as season 3 goes I think we can safely say that the MAJOR MAJOR and minor MAJOR characters are all going to NL together because they are the CORE of the story as a whole. (except Ruby of course…) You have to have Hook there because it’s NL and because of his dealings with Emma and Rumple. You have to have Belle there because she is a major part of Rumple’s story.

I would consider Neal a major character mainly because he’s actually Bae.
Bae is the reason for everything Rumple did – starting with deserting the Ogre’s War -every deal, every manipulation – Bae is the reason the curse was cast in the first place.
The entire plot of the show centers around Bae.
    He’s Rumplestiltskin’s son.
    He’s Henry’s father.
He’s the Savior’s one true love (albeit, ‘ex’ one true love, at this point).

Neal was the hardest for me to place because if I’m just considering this season, he doesn’t have as large a backstory yet but his story has affected the entire show. I would consider Neal either a minor MAJOR or a MAJOR MAJOR depending on what they do with him in S3.

Belle is really not that important, Rumble is and if Rumble was smart for Belle’s safety he would leave her in storybrooke other wise Hook could do something to her again or someone else could use her against Gold. Gold could always come back after they get Henry back and they both could return to FL together then. After all her father is still in Storybrooke.

On her own accord, I’d say Belle doesn’t have a large part to play in the plot development. Yet, in connection to Rumplestiltskin, I’d say Belle actually will play a huge role in helping him become a better man, but only if she recovers her memories. Along with Baelfire, Belle is actually his strength, rather than his weakness. The whole love-is-strengh motif applies to them. Only time will tell whether Rumple chooses love over power this time. Lots could happen before that actually happens, but if there is a threat to SB, I doubt Belle would remain behind. She’s the type who craves adventure, and there’s no bigger adventure than NL. Also, Belle’s relationship with her father isn’t exactly happy, so I don’t think she’d stay just for him.

Belle is important and I think we will see how important she is to Rumple (as if we haven’t already!) in the next episode. She is important because she is Rumple’s motivation to do good and to change. She is his true love. I don’t think they are able to show the “good” side of Rumple without Belle. And I really love her.

I mean that’s really just your opinion. I and a lot of other people consider her important. And she’s not a child lol, she’s like 30. She can handle herself she doesn’t need Gold hiding her away. Sure things might happen but that’s true for every character on the show, Belle shouldn’t be the only one treated like a baby.

HappyEndings: You are well within your rights to think Belle is unimportant. I know you are not alone in that opinion. But, a lot of us think she is for the continual character development for Rumple and I think the writers agree with those us that think this way. I also think they know how popular Rumbelle is. They love their story and it’s one that has a lot more to tell. Rumple needs her, for better or worse. And she’s never going to stop fighting for him. She won’t LET HIM leave her in SB.
