There ARE people who ship Red with Charming. There are people who ship Charming with Regina. There are people who ship Red with Snow. And so on and so forth.
Over enthusiastic shipping isn’t exclusive to this show, it happens all the time in every fandom. Do I understand why people wanna ship SleepingHook? Nope. But there are plenty of people who don’t understand why I wanna ship Hookriel. And that’s fine. As long as people just go on their merry way and ship who they want without it hurting anyone else, then there’s no harm caused by it. (I know some members of some of the bigger ships sometimes get out of hand with arguing and get really mean, but I like to think those types of fans are the minority.) It fuels people’s creativity, getting them to write fanfics and make fanart, and that’s all good stuff, (I may not ship SwanQueen, but that fandom has some great artists).
In the case of FrankenWolf, it’s been stated that they WERE planning on exploring that relationship more before their focus for the season changed. So it’s not just that they had one conversation. At the time, they were legitimately laying the groundwork to develop their story. That doesn’t mean everyone has to personally like it and ship it, I’m just saying that in that particular case it can’t be written off as fans reading too much into things.

And to me, it made perfect sense. They’re “monsters”; and more than that, they are the classic Hollywood monsters that everyone knows–the werewolf and Frankenstein, even if Frankie isn’t technically the monster, he’s not exactly a standup guy. It makes sense that they would at least have a friendship, they get each other. That scene at the docks really only made sense with Red, it would have been find with any other character, but Ruby was the most obvious choice.

And Frankenstein’s Monster and the Wolf Man were famously in a movie together, which may well be where K&H got the idea to pair these two up in the first place.

Would have been a great way to show some growth for him as he learned to accept that. They’d already shown him grudgingly accepting that magic was worthwhile when he asked Rumple to put his arm back on, and then he had the, “everyone thinks we’re monsters” bonding moment with Red, and it could have built into a great storyline for them as he came to terms with accepting magic as a part of his life and learning how it could successfully co-exist with his belief in science. And it could serve the story well in S3 if they wanted to show him struggling with which side to choose if THO bring more of their science to SB. He’d be torn emotionally between his life’s work and his girlfriend, and it’d be some good TV. If by some miracle they suddenly announce that Meghan will be available to shoot some stuff at the start of the season, and if David ends up back in Vancouver at the same time, I’ll be super excited. They didn’t have Whale showing interest in Ruby all the way back in S1 for no good reason. FrankenWolf were totally intended to be endgame and I’ll ship it even if we never get the chance to see it on the show now.
I completely agreed with what you have said.
Keeper of Tamara's death, Cyrus's bottle, Ariel's red hair, and the mermaid that got turned into a statue in the season 3 premiere episode.

Whale is a minor enough character that it would be easy to drop his story, or even continue in graphic novels like they did for Huntsman, if necessary. I am not sure what the actor said on twitter, if it was so bad that the show runners should detour what they had planned. It’s a shame though, if he said something really horrible. He seemed nice enough when he was interviewed for the podcast on this site.

Basically, you don’t follow the guy on Twitter unless you can handle some swearing in your timeline now and then…and by “some swearing” I mean every cuss in the book. 😛 Many people find that offensive. Doesn’t bother me personally. If not for these forums being PG, I’d be swearing up an effing storm all over the place myself. Anyway, aside from his foul mouth, he’s also a very professional, talented and accomplished actor, and a lovely guy, as evidenced by the interview he did for the podcast.

Considering the significant role true love plays in the mythology of this show, I really can’t fault fans for pairing up characters like crazy and shipping them like mad.

I’m not disputing his acting ability – he wouldn’t continue to get work if he was no good at the craft I guess. But if your definition of “lovely guy” is someone who made the type of racist, sexist and homophobic tweets that he did, then I’m sorry but we’ll have to agree to disagree.
I ship Regina Mills with Happiness!
July 18, 2013 at 11:18 pm #200707PheeParticipantWell I certainly can’t agree that he’s homophobic, given some of his recent tweets, (and the baby in the first pic here doesn’t look white, so I can’t label him as racist either)…

July 19, 2013 at 6:06 am #200737kfchimeraParticipantI checked out his tweets, and I think I agree with Phee. He may be blunt, crass and a good deal angrier at the world than I imagined, but he seems the opposite of what Kiwi is implying far as being homophobic and a bigot. It could just be damage control after something he said. I’m not going to waste time looking so carefully, so all I saw was that he slammed Serena Williams for something she said, but I don’t know what she said exactly either. Something that got her in a controversy for implying a 16 year old girl was at fault for being raped or something?
I don’t know….twitter only gives you 144 characters, and rarely the whole story.
