To me, the island of NL on OUAT looks very similar to the way it was depicted in the Disney cartoon (minus the pretty rainbows and glistening water). What the two depictions share is the shape of the island’s jutting mountains.

Not for nothing but it also looks like the LOST island. The big white patch is the island disappearing (don’t ask. Frozen Donkey Wheel)

Do you also think that the scene that we can see on the new image for 3.04 reminds of Fantasia, Bald Mountain. Where ghosts, shadows and demons are dancing in and around? Peter Pan is maybe not only the Pied Piper.

I was unfamiliar with Chernabog til it was mentioned here (I haven’t seen it in agesss and have little to no  recollection of Fantasia at all – we didn’t watch it much in my house, the music always put Dad to sleep!) but I did notice something interesting in the wiki explanation of Chernabog.

According to WIKI: “He is considered one of Disney’s most powerful and terrifying villains; as the god of evil, he does not work toward a specific goal but exists purely to be evil” but he is also at times referred to as a DEMON.

Now, where have we heard mentions of a demon on OUAT? Hook has said this about both Rumple and PP. Word choice is important (in most cases anyway) and the fact that he used it to describe both of them is very interesting indeed. (And according to Hook “Even demons can be killed.”)

What also struck me about Chernabog is that they are choosing to use the word demon and he is listed as the “god of evil.” GOAT used a lot of religious-sounding language regarding why magic needs to be destroyed etc, and they were lured to do PP’s bidding under false pretenses, but the irony (which they love) in having the two who use the most religious sounding wording for things being controlled by the demon sounds like something they’d enjoy playing with for sure.

PP’s eyes…I swear, I’ve said  it before but there is one pic for 3×04 where with the way he’s dressed and the way he’s standing and his eyes being just a bit creepy he looks like an old-school vampire (plus he’s immortal or living in an immortal way or however you would like to spin that but I found it interesting that that was the first thing to came to mind).

So yes, I really like this theory since Chernabog is supposed to be the most powerful villain of Disney’s. I would have thought Maleficent since she could do all kinds of crazy things but I guess not. Same, I imagine, would go for Mad Madam Mim (who could also turn herself into a dragon).

I’m not sure what all they’ll give us or where they would go with it, especially if they were to jump from PP to Chernabog being the bad guy all within these first 11 episodes and still wrap it up quickly or where we would go in the future if it is the biggest villain (supposedly) but we shall see! Looking forward to it either way!

I definitely would not put it past them to show that PP is just a willing puppet. There’s at least reason to doubt that the shadow is him since it looks like he still has it and the shadow has a voice since Marilyn Manson was just cast so it’s definitely possible!

I definitely have quite a bit of things to look into and I need a refresher course on things like Fantasia for sure but I’ll add to it later if I find anything. Love that the show gives us a good excuse to go relive our childhoods and look into these things – especially with adult eyes so we can analyze them properly!

The casting of Manson as the voice of the Shadow has me thinking about this Chernabog stuff again. You can cast just about anyone for a voice role, but they chose Marilyn frikking Manson, so they want people to have an image of him in their head when they hear the Shadow, and dude is associated with things creepy and demonic, so he’d be pretty perfect for the role if the Shadow is intended to be their version of Disney’s Chernabog, “god of evil”.
