SO SO SO MANY FEELINGS RIGHT NOW!
I’ll start with the actual CS news that is exciting / confusing!
CS was spotted filming in the woods today for 3×14. Not sure what that means exactly…but they were definitely filming together and in the woods. Actual quote from a VanCity tweet: “They [CaptainSwan] were in the woods filming, then wrapped and came out.” No idea the context for any of this but they were filming together and apparently in the woods! He also clarified that it was for 3×14 so they’ve definitely started filming that!
OUATIW (which is relevant because part of the same world / writers / etc.). If you haven’t watched tonight’s episode don’t read!
For those who watch Once Upon A Time in Wonderland as well…I think you’ll have some ideawhy I reallllly loved tonight’s episode. Tons of parallels, true love, showing how it SHOULD look, LOTS of things that are reminiscent of CS and as always, Cylice language makes me think of CS but it was the Cylice actions tonight that make me so happy that this is coming from the same people because it can’t be a coincidence.
Preface: NOT TRUE OF ABSOLUTELY EVERY SINGLE PERSON – just something I noticed. It amuses me to no end that with the different characters / circumstances, people are…opposite shipping over there? I’ve noticed a lot of CSers are Cylice fans even though we love Knave and a lot of SFers are either Knalice fans or are at least adamant that Will not take Ana back ever and want him with someone else.
Lots of wonderful wonderful things tonight from Cylice about sacrificing TO BE TOGETHER (sacrificing a compass no less, hello Snowing and CS parallel), being told to leave someone behind and NOT DOING IT, etc etc. Lots of beautiful true love stuff and yay for them being reunited! (It just gave me a ton of CS feels and I’m not the only one if tumblr is any indication. If they feel that way about things on this show, I can’t imagine they don’t feel the same way about TL on the main one and those were definitely the vibes I was getting tonight.)
(Moment of absolute honesty: I did panic for a second. I kept reminding myself that they were together so whatever he did was undone before he went off the cliff but I was absolutely terrified for a moment that he was going to do what he was told to do and leave her for her own good and then he didn’t and I breathed a huge sigh of relief. I just have never read that as an interpretation of TL on the main show nor how Emma feels about it. To Emma, it has ALWAYS meant being together and that’s true for all the other couples as well, better off together than apart and miserable).
So I saw a lot of positive CS stuff in tonight’s episode (as well of course as yay for Cylice being reunited! Love them and thank goodness for an actual canon couple so I don’t have to worry about shipping on that show. Now to make sure my Will is happy and all will be well).

^^^ I wasn’t expecting Anastasia to confess her feelings for Will and motivations for working with Jafar totally caught me off guard. I’m more of a Red Knave fan that Cylice so tonight’s episode got me right in the feels!

About the 2nd chance thing on Neal, I just thought that there’s a new character on her way, right?( The one who has long hair). In the Disney movie, her TL is a thief, and Neal is a thief… so…:)

i wonder when that story takes place though, could or could not be in present day EF.
Love the way you’re thinking but uh, I think the casting call was to make Rapunzel be 14. That’s not to say that maybe they changed something, but I think she’s a 1 episode deal in 3×14 (for now) and we’re not sure what else yet. That said I think he needs to take some time and unwind a bit after going straight from the betraying Tamara back to Emma. (Hopefully he gets closure as Emma gets closure).
Right now it’s looking like Hook and Emma definitely have scenes together in 3×12, 3×13 & 3×14!!!!!! We don’t know yet if she’s made a choice or is ready to make a choice or what have you (well, WE feel like she’s made a choice but she hasn’t dealt with everything and may have to get back to people and THEN be able to have the conversations they should have been having the whole time). Either way it’s GOOD that we have them working together AGAIN and building toward something beautiful and should be getting the “good moments” amid the chaos like they do so well! I’m sorry but I refuse to believe that we are spending half a season having Hook be genuinely helpful and seemingly her ROCK again only to help her get back to Neal, especially if that’s decided ahead of time that that’s what she’s trying to do. It was one thing to do that for one episode and it was heartbreaking, but knowing how deep his feelings for her are that would be unjustly cruel to him (he’d likely do it to make her happy but that’s just way too cruel! No wonder people are trying to say it must be Neal in Hook’s body, no matter how weird THAT would be for her, because they don’t want him spending that much time with her but that can only be good for us).
Another thought I had for Lost fans out there – any chance he could be pulling a Desmond somehow? And Emma is somehow his anchor? I feel like Hook is somehow the one that was immune to things or something because the whole NY + arrested + potion seems majorly weird. Somebody has to have a loophole to getting them all back where they belong and we know he spends time with her in NY and that there’s something about a potion and then she hugs him etc etc as though she’s realizing who he is. I know many expect her to be the one to remember but it would parallel S1 if someone else has to bring her to it and it would be interesting if Hook is somehow able to – and good that she wouldn’t be under it for too long. It’s all very confusing right now, especially since various other cast are supposedly in NY as well even though we’re supposed to be in SB/FTL and I have no idea what’s really happening but IF Hook is somehow special and remembers, he could be going around “waking” everybody else up or at least Emma to convince her so that she can do that. (I love Penny and Desmond and thinking that Hook MIGHT be the one to help Emma remember reminded me of them as well as Henry being the one in S1 to go get her and make her believe and save everyone too. Lots of good parallels there, even though I still can’t make sense out of how any of that could happen yet.
PLEASE let them give us some context with a promo or something after the episode because I am already going through massive withdrawals which will only be soothed by positive (though questionable to be sure) interviews and BTS stuff which better eventually have something good for us. If they’re smart they’ll keep all shippy scenes inside but who knows if they’ll pull that off or not.
Seriously still so in love with how Cylice played out tonight. Compass + choosing to stay with her when told to go + epic kiss + a total “next time don’t stand on ceremony” leading up TO the kiss *swoon* (It was beyond wonderful. Playful banter beforehand. Everything. Perfection). Plus I got a tweet from Peter Gadiot aka Cyrus. Night = made. 🙂

Edited to add- Oh. Is she only meant to be 14? The actress looks much older in the pic I’ve seen going around- easily in her 20s, so I assumed, they’d cast her as such :/
Honestly at this point, I cant see ANY of them going into full blown romantic relationships- be it Neal or Emma, or even Killian (he’s the closest to it atm, but I dont think he 100% there yet- although he would give it a shot if Emma was willing), but it doesnt mean we cant have fun knowing someone ‘good’ is in the wings Or seeing how they support each other ‘as FRIENDS’ getting through all the emotional stuff that needs to be waded through.
I dont see a love interest for Neal, detracting from his arc with his father or Henry & Emma either- just like I dont see Killian as detracting from Emma’s story with her parents, Henry, being the savior- in fact adding Killian into Emma’s mix, is what has really helped to bring out Emma’s character more- we get to see more sides to her etc.
I think it could work in Neal’s characters favor to have someone like that.
On a related but slightly off topic note, I saw this on FB, analyzing why it is some people find it hard to ‘like’ Neal & I thought it was very well thought out.
Thoughts on Neal as villain vs hero.
I have given this some more thought. And I think the reason Neal doesn’t jive with a lot of people is because he’s supposed to be a hero character, but his actions often come across as villainous. I mean, think about it. How many times has someone said, “How are his actions as bad a Rumple or Regina?” And that’s exactly the problem. We shouldn’t be comparing him to the villains. We should be comparing him to the heroes. But he just doesn’t match up with them.
For example, he leaves Emma – the main hero of the story – which results in her landing in prison, drops her from a place where she had thought and believed she could open herself up to trust and love and puts her in a place where she emotionally closes herself to everyone and any opportunity she might have to trust and love again, and leaves her with a child she is not in a situation in life to care for even though it seems clear she would have rather kept him.
For some people, to make such transgressions against the main hero character, this casts Neal in a villainous role – even if these people might not actually consider or call him a villain.
Secondly, his words and actions come across as untrustworthy. The idea is that he loves Emma and regrets his decision to leave her. But unlike Charming and Snow – the main True Love hero couple of the show – he does not do all that he can to be with Emma. When the opportunity presents itself for him to reunite with her, he doesn’t go. And directly after being told he’s free to be with Emma, he meets another woman and becomes engaged to her. Again, these actions do not follow the True Love conquers all trend that we have seen in the hero stories.
So when he tells Emma “I will always fight for you” or “I always loved you,” his words fall flat or come across as untrustworthy because his actions do not follow the examples we have seen of what True Love is supposed to be. Even Rumple/Belle and Regina/Daniel are True Love villain stories that follow the same “do everything you can to be together” arc that the hero love stories have. But Neal’s love story doesn’t.
Another scene that people come back to is when he convinces Robin to use Roland to call the shadow. At first Robin refuses to help, not wanting to risk his four year old son. Neal only convinces him by telling Robin he owes him a favor because Rumple saved Marian’s life. This is an untrue statement. It was Belle who convinced Rumple not to kill Robin. And it was Robin who used the wand he stole from Rumple to heal Marian. Robin saved his wife’s life. Belle saved Robin’s life. If anything, Robin owes Belle. He owes Rumple – and by extension, Neal – nothing.
And here’s the thing. We have Robin – another hero character – point out Neal’s logic as wrong when he says, “So because I know what it is to value family, I should risk mine?” And even though we know Neal is wrong about who saved Marian’s life, Robin is an honorable enough of a character to feel like he owes someone something for the short amount of time he had with his wife.
This is supposed to be Neal’s hero moment, when he goes back to Neverland – the place of his nightmares and host to the most evil person he’s ever met and never wanted to meet again – to save Emma and Henry. But he does it by risking the well-being of a four year old and manipulating Robin into agreeing to it. It’s not Neal who comes across as the hero in this scene.
The question people ask is “Why do people hate Neal?” and I believe this is the answer: because for the people who don’t like him, he comes across as a villain, not the hero he’s supposed to be. There is no one specific action he has to do in order to atone or deserve Emma. He’s just needs to stop acting like the villain and become a hero.
