I agree, I’ve been pondering that myself but I couldn’t bring it up as I keep thinking along the lines – ‘what came first, egg or chicken?’
Meaning: WE are used to categorizing fairy tell characters – they have been created for US to personify our fears and hopes – they are all so black and white. But in this show, not only there are different shades of grey, but also it appears they are not from our imagination but from a parallel world. So the books that we read must have been written BASED of this world and not the other way round. The FTL must have been the predecessor. Which brings me to the question – do OUAT characters tend to stick to either end of the grey scale ie black or white because they are bound to do that by the books and they don’t really have a free will as such, OR are the books truly only successors of the real life stories that happened and exaggerate the personalities to clarify stands? If it was the former, I agree, it would seem that breaking the curse would set them free BUT it would also create excuses for all the evil that happened in FTL because ‘it was destined to do so, no matter what’? Wouldn’t that mean, forget EVERYTHING that happened back there, conveniently, the hell of the Evil Queen as well as Snow White being a saint because they had no control over what they were doing (in a sense true anyway for Regina, as she was manipulated by Rumple)? Some would agree that’s not really fair – erasing all those events to give an equal status to all Storybrookers but the past would still strongly affect their current behaviors anyway so eventually things would be fair again. It would be funny to see characters read about themselves in the book and find out the REAL reason behind all their actions. Would they agree to what they were reading?
OR, there is no such thing as fairy tale and everyone has always had free will? FTL does seem like a lot of things being done or said are enormously exaggerated (Snow White is close to holly, Queen of Hearts can truly control hearts, Hook seeking revenge for years, ruining lives for the same reason Regina did) but we need to forget our set of rules and realize that FTL IS a different world and hence their views and perceptions of good and bad are different, their values are similar but NOT the same to ours and, ultimately, there is magic ruling in there too. The FTL characters are actually as close to aliens as we can only imagine and clashing of the two worlds would result in just one huge miscommunication BECAUSE everyone would be confident that they understand the other world very well based on little similarities but in fact, they would be wrong…Ok, I just realized I completely rumbled off the subject, don’t mind me, carry on, I’ll just sit here mumbling to myself…. 😆

Not neccesarily! …That’s exactly the egg/chicken dilemma 😀 And in this case Destiny or Free will ??

The writers don’t have to come up with the answers to this its a philosophical question that’s been debated for ages. If there is destiny or if there’s a God who makes everything happen, can any human being then take any responsibility for their actions or are we just puppets ?
If I took a puppet and pulled on the strings and the puppets arm struck a nother person over the head, I think we can all agree that would be my fault. The person would probably be mad at me and not the puppet 😉 Hypothetecly speaking, if this puppet had a mind and feelings, it might still feel guilty though.. if it didn’t know it was tied up with my strings…A nother thing. Some writers say when they write about characters for a long time and they really love these characters, sometimes they seem to take on a life of their own.. When the writer maybe think he want to go in one direction, but find himself writing in a different direction ? why is that I wonder- maybe you could say the character made a choice of his free will then 😯 😉

The execution scene. Sorry, but I giggled watching it, it was comical that they tried to execute Regina with arrows, what unfortuantely killed the scene for me. Too bad, the Evil Queen had some moment in it.
From a more inside the story poin of view:
Snow and Charming just banning Regina. Should have thought at least they would try to restrict her in some way from finding (new) means for magic. Great, Snow and Charming were protected from Regina thanks to Rumple (what a fishy gift, not much of a deal, that should have set of red alert), so able to go after her any time again if necessary, but did they really expect her to just sit around idle, alone in misery? And they let her stay in “her” castle (which would have been rightful Snow’s, not that I think she would have liked that architectural monstrosity back, but still).Rumple making Emma use magic. Snow wasn’t the only one feeling uncomfortable with that. It gave me the creeps. Emma having magic, and using magic is one thing, but letting Rumple show her how to use it even for just a moment – he of all people! No good thing. And what irony that then Regina is the one to tell Emma, all magic comes with a price. Well, Regina most certainly does know, and especially if it comes to Rumple.
Favorite moments:
Lana Parilla! All of the cast did a great job, but she was making it so impossible not to have at least a bit of sympathy for Regina here. Not to mention her delivering some of the best lines of the episode. And Robert Carlyle got to play playfull evil Rumple again, always a joy. One complaint: do they have to make the bad guys on this show so enjoyable?!? 😉 😆
Particular enjoyed any scene with Regina and Emma, aka Lana Parilla and Jennifer Morisson, in this episode (well, most of the time do). I can watch them sparring for hours. I mean, wow, have to have some trust in each other as actresses to pull off such scenes in such a way.
Same goes for the scene between Snow and the Evil Queen.
Hook and Cora in the final scene talking about Archie. Evil.
On a lighter note:
Emma and Henry crashing Snow’s and Charming’s happy cozy reunion. Hilarious. Now whenever I make / eat tacos will have a giggle (did so today, coincidence)Regina entering the diner saying with an unsure smile, “Sorry, I’m late.” This time not crashing a wedding, but seeing how the story is somewhat mirrored at this point (the scenes in FTL play shortly before the big wedding of Snow and Charming), it’s such a fun to see this moment.
Some lines I loved:
Regina (to Archie) Need I to remind you, you got your doctor from a curse.
Regina (to Red) Go, take yourself for a walk!
Emma (to Red) Never mind, the wolf thing.
Hook (to Cora): Well, aren’t you mom of the year.
¯\_(?????? ?)_/¯

-I loved how Snow White was trying to give Regina a chance for redempton–she saw the suffering she was going through, and she could still see the young woman who had saved her a taught her about love.
-I really loved how Emma was trying to get along with Regina, and Regina was trying to get along with Emma. Both Jennifer Morrison and Lana Parrilla do wonderful on their own, but when they are together, they really shine and really feel real.
-I did like the little date with Belle and Rumpelstiltskin. It was sweet seeing them together and all.
-I also liked that Archie was not dead. I almost believed it near the end–I thought that Belle had gotten kidnapped. That was actually a nice twist.Least Favorite
-I am tired of the show trying to show us how bad Regina has is. I do feel bad for her, but enough is enough. I get it–she has it horrible. Sorry if I sound cold, but this has been going on since the beginning of season 2. I would really like it if they moved on from this topic.
-Also the whole “He’s my son!” bit is alos getting a bit tiring. Both these women are in Henry’s life and he has made it clear that he wants it to stay that way. In this case, it is a bit more understandable with the murder plot and all, but I really hope it does not last too long. Also, on a sidenote–Regina may have been trying to poison only Emma with the apple, but as long as her intent to poison was clear, even though Henry ate the apple, she would legally be held accountable for intent to murder.

Oh, I never thought of that Disney movie, but I would love that! I’ve been waiting for any fics of Rumple with a sheepdog especially with him with Bae, but so far haven’t seen any yet. I’m so going to imagine this playing out until I get my fan fiction though. Oh god if the show actually went there though, I would just buy everyone I know a dvd of each episode and the soundtrack and all kinds of other merchandise. 😀
January 8, 2013 at 5:00 am #167438all_aglowParticipantMy favorite line was actually from Granny: “Meatloaf back home? What a b***h.”
Sorry, laughed so hard. And rewound and laughed again.
Also, absolutely love the idea of this story within a story. I would like to know how the real FTL characters see themselves in the stories. Henry’s storybook has their stories, but what about books outside of Storybrook? There are several different versions of pretty much all of the famous fairy tales we know, and many retellings now in modern times, I wonder how they would respond to these “reincarnations” of their own selves. This layered worlds idea is a very LOST thing to think about, haha. I need to be on the forums more often. This whole thread has been so interesting!
Keeper of Sidney Glass' Epic Trench Coat and Hat. He's obviously not using it right now. 😉

Charming Stark (what that coat was so GOT)
Emma/Henry walking in on Snowing Sex..it was just epic

Least Fav:
Cora getting away with it

I kind of like that Rumple is helping Emma. He too, is trying to redeem himself with Belle, and be a better person. Maybe this(using GOOD magic), and finding his son, is exactly what he needs! 😛
