Nothing about this makes any sense whatsoever. Not from a storytelling standpoint, not based on the supposed rules and everything relating to DOs, not in any way. Absolutely the worst twist they could’ve possibly pulled. The show just did a backflip over a dozen sharks.
Everything Rumple-related that has happened this season was just thrown out the window and we’re back to square 1. Or square -1. It’s the “Rumple deceives Belle” plot from S4A again. We’ve even got Emma to stand in for Hook and blackmail Rumple by threatening to tell Belle. Of course, no one actually cares about Belle so they’re gonna keep quiet now that they have what they want. Oh and they all went to the Underworld anyway so that’s problem solved, we get to have another half a season at the very least of Rumple getting to be with Belle despite secrectly being complete scum who betrayed them all for the millionth time.
The Holy Grail/Excalibur sure is great at deciding who’s worthy to wield the power. Current track record (apart from Merlin): Nimue, the source of all dark magic and original Dark One; Arthur, murderous maniacal king who used magic to “fix” his wife and keep her under his control; and Rumplestiltskin, who, despite losing all the darkness in heart and supposedly becoming a hero, instead chose power over anything else yet again, betraying all the good guys and rendering all the attempts to destroy the darkness worthless. Gift from the gods indeed.

Here’s my question: where does Belle think Rumple went? She wakes up, sees that Rumple and rest of the CharMills are gone. Did he leave a note? Did he lie to Belle, just going out of a gallon of milk and a pack of smokes?

It feels like really bad fanfiction written by someone who is very anti-rumple on tumblr…

"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"December 7, 2015 at 4:37 pm #313846GloriaDrewThisParticipantIs it… possible (and I say this very tentatively and with copious Benefit-Of-Doubt), especially if season 5 is the last season and they are trying to inject some bookend symmetry to close up (mr. gold’s) shop, that all the ~*opening the gates to hell and underworld and all the dark coming forth from it*~ business over the last few episodes inspired Rumple with a new plan to get his son back? Having him see an opportunity to obtain greater levels of power than ever before, particularly that of Emma and Nimue and the like who have seemingly managed to find a way to go to hell and back for loved ones (or not-so-loved ones)…….have him recognize the connection between new power and new portals and where his son was sent….. a plot that includes the well rumprecedented scheme of trading (in this case souls for souls between the underworld and the living)…. not to mention at least attempting to send Belle off so she wouldn’t interfere even unwittingly (a la skin deep)
….. I dunno. A commenter on Lily Spark’s latest review mentioned that Rumple might get to see Neal via the underworld plot and when I thought about it more….. maybe this big horrible cursed journey could possibly mirror season 1’s big horrible cursed journey that Rumple was also indirectly steering towards finding and regaining his son.

Yeah is Excalibur then kicking around somewhere as well? I mean if the dagger was regenerated why not the rest of the sword? Is it back in the stone?
Also how was Merlin’s voicemail helpful? How was Nimue going to help them? I thought it was going to be that in order to defeat the darkness Nimue had to be destroyed, but that wasn’t the case. In fact I think the best advice would have been to avoid Nimue at all costs…
Didn’t Regina need to be “dark” to use the wand? Last I checked it wasn’t a confidence issue…
Why is rumple going to the UW with them? Surely he could just open the portal and let them have at it, I don’t get what he gains from going. Sorry are the heroes going to bail on going to the UW if he doesn’t go along?
How does pouring jar o’ magic on Excalibur make rumple the DO again?
… I need to stop or I will be here all day.

Why didn’t they just use the Hat to suck all the Darkness out of Hook, Nimue, other Dark Ones?
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"December 7, 2015 at 5:01 pm #313855sacrlcParticipantRumple becoming the dark one (yet again) by design was sooooo lame; not just the plot “twist” but by how it was executed. I understand the appeal of Rumple as the dark one, but there could have been done in a more interesting way. Like, somehow magic came to Rumple (he woke up one morning and WOW! “I can start the coffee pot from the bedroom again!”). We could then watch Rumple struggle with the power of magic that is neither dark or light in itself: whether to use it selfishly or selflessly. There can be many ways it could be written, even dark and light, when magic used selflessly, minimal and possibly benign or comical “price”, but if it is used selfishly, the price would be dear. Could add interesting dimensions to future plot lines. Excalibur could be not just a dark magic magnet, it also has the power to emit magic that is neither dark nor light – just magic like his bleached heart; able to go either way – or both.
Don't grow up. It's a trap.

That would actually require Adam and Eddy to use their brains for once….I for one have lost all faith in their limited intelligence.
