Baelfire is dead for one reason. He opened the vault of the dark one. No matter who is to blame, whether it was Zelena’s information or Belle’s insistence that Rumple could be brought back, the truest guilt lies with the Dark One himself. If he wouldn’t have been *dead* his son would not have to exchange his life to resurrect him.
But there’s more: if Gold would have killed himself along with Pan while they were still in Neverland, Regina wouldn’t have to destroy the curse scroll and separate the realms. Neal would still be with Henry and no one would think of bringing the Dark One back.
So the guiltiest party to Neal’s death is Gold, and as the most self-hating character in ouat, he probably came to the same conclusion.
And this makes the wedding even MORE ridiculous. What?? He is trying to get on with life? He is trying to be happy and marry his girlfriend? Huh??? This is so unbelievable for this character. This isn’t just someone who lost a child, he didn’t only lose the thing he loves most, his only reason for being who he is.
And this isn’t only a simple case of survival guilt because someone died and he was spared. He is alive *because* his son died. He is alive because he no longer has anything to live for. (in his own words from “nasty habits” if his son is dead he has nothing to live for)
If the ouat writers are trying to make it that bringing Bae back is Rumple’s newest motivation, they had better make it believable. Because the longer it takes for Rumple to bring him back, the less it makes sense. It shouldn’t be this hard for Gold to come up with a plan. Not after the time portal has ALREADY OPENED!!

Interesting theory that Gold may have survivor’s guilt. However, I think the RumBelle wedding makes perfect sense. Rumple has just lost one of the two important people in his life. His kneejerk reaction is to pull the other important person (Belle) even closer to him.

All magic comes with a price!
