1. My head cannon for Rumple’s mom is that she was the blacksmith less attractive daughter or the unattractive daughter of a relatively wealthy man. Malvolm either because he was a seeking an end to his servitude or poverty married the woman to improve his finances not out of love and he got stuck with a child he never truly loved by a woman he barely tolerated. 2. screwball Ninga has a huge bias and blinders when it comes to Belle. This taints her view on Rumbelle and Hook and Neal. Except for her willingness to discuss and arguments based on wealth and social class I don’t find her blog compelling. 3. Is the CSF thread open for posting?
Mal mentioned the blacksmith in connection with his own childhood. I think it would be odd for the man to end up with the child without marriage, because well, their job in the gestation process is so small. He had to stick around 9 months or so to be “burdened” with the baby in the first place.
So I think it works either way really, that he deeply loved or that she was a means to an end, just a mark so he could live the good life. Perhaps she was just the same as Mal, a party girl who was not any more ready to handle the child than he was. (Like LOST’s story for John Locke). All we know is that Malcom was a wastrel type of guy, and he drank & gambled everything they had away and was not responsible. His one good act was taking his son to the Spinsters so someone responsible could look after him.
As to SN she does have a Rumbelle bias, which I mentioned when linking her article . We all have biases whether we admit it or not, and for some, you’re either with them or against them in regards to a favorite character.
It’s going to be interesting once ReHo gets into full swing as I have very different opinions on Regina’s character than Wicked Regal, yet I’m eager for the ship as she is. WR has said in chat that she’s expecting to see that Henry was having a lovely life in SB until MM ruined it. I kind of think Henry was already sort of sad and lonely, being the only one growing up each year, but not really understanding why he had no lasting friends.
We all sort of can have different takes on characters, yet also like them, want them to have screen time, and even end-game happiness. I’m not sure what I want for Regina which is why I skipped that thread. I am excited about ReHo, but I’ve really started crackshipping Little Birdies too just to take the angst and crazy past Pan. I mean, they have to top that messed up stuff somehow!

EVERYONE has blinders and a bias when it comes to their favorite characters. It’s *not* a bad thing so long as you state up front, “this is my favorite character/ship and I openly acknowledge that this colors my thoughts and opinions.” It’s part of fandom that you love certain characters for certain reasons that are very personal to you, your very self. It’s when you don’t acknowledge that you’re biased that trouble happens. Objectivity is just not a thing that happens in fandoms like this.
3. Is the CSF thread open for posting?
It was never once closed. We as a collective whole decided to stop posting because, despite what people want to believe, it never remains civil. It can’t unless it’s a person who swings between both ships talking to people who are set on their ships. We’re all too entrenched in our ships, whatever they may be. I actually went back through that thread a few days ago and read over some stuff. We lasted pretty civily for the first 10 pages and then it fell apart and we started getting hostile and arguing the same stuff over and over and after 40 pages of intense argument, it became clear to the 6 people (people who will never be persuaded to abandon their ship) who were doing the majority of the talking that it was just causing problems.
Honest to god opinion here (and not a Mod order): leave CSF in your individual shipping threads because when it leaves the individual shippy threads it gets ugly and it gets ugly fast.

It’s never auto corrected anything I’ve typed, so didn’t even know it could. Are you posting from your phone?
i am posting from my iPad. It’s only this forum I get the crazy autocorrects.

All magic comes with a price!

If Cora is heartless, I don’t think she’d care one way or the other. She’s not capable of those emotions. If she had her heart, I think she’d be fine with it, because it was Regina, in the end, who was enough.

Good point. The heart is really key here. I don’t think she would have done it out of love–I actaully think Cora would be appalled by what Rumple became after he met Belle. Cora might have done it out of spite, though. Tried to get him back to the incredibly wicked imp he was.
