Just found this on the ONCE confessions page. Make me think of this conversation.
[adrotate group="5"]"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"November 30, 2013 at 7:01 am #227057PriceofMagicParticipantI think Cora, with her heart, would’ve become jealous of RumBelle and would try and win Rumple back. Wither her heart, Cora would want to right the wrongs she did and that would be being a nicer mother to Regina but also being with Rumple. Cora would try and get Belle out of the picture, in fact I could see Cora turning Belle into Lacey.

But with her heart, she might also recognize that whatever she and Rumple had wasn’t meant to be, but with Belle he’d found his true love and soul mate. With her heart, Cora would have been more focused on Regina.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"November 30, 2013 at 8:17 am #227072PriceofMagicParticipantI don’t think having her heart would’ve changed Cora’s overall personality, it just enabled her to feel love, and as the saying goes “People do crazy things when they’re in love”. Before Cora tore out her own heart, she was planning to kill Xavier by ripping out his heart and crushing it in front of him. Cora loved Rumple, even without a heart she told him that he was “the only man she ever loved”, if she thought she had a chance to get him back, then she wouldn’t let Belle stand in her way. Belle’s amnesia/Lacey phase could’ve worked well for Cora as Rumple was vulnerable and would therefore be more “receptive” to accepting comfort and you could bet Cora would be first in line to offer him “comfort”. Killing Belle wouldn’t work as that would make Rumple hate her.
Cora/Rumple would never last as dark Rumple would never stand a chance with reuniting with Bae which is what Rumple wants most. Belle encourages Rumple to be the best he can be, which in turn enables Bae to see how much his father is trying to change. This could lead to Cora seeing Bae as a threat to her happy ending.

But all of that was BEFORE Regina. Once Cora had her heart back and was able to see her daughter, really for the first time, I think all thoughts of Rumple and all thoughts of power might have vanished. Cora and Regina were alike in this manner. Regina said, “I am trying so hard to be worthy of Henry” It would have been the same with Cora, “I am trying so hard to be worthy of REgina.”
It’s not just having a heart that would have changed Cora. It’s having a heart AND having Regina.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"November 30, 2013 at 8:36 am #227078PriceofMagicParticipantCora had Regina anyway, having her heart would made Regina’s feeling more important to Cora, which in turn would’ve made her more dangerous to the Charmings. Regina felt like the Charmings were keeping Henry away from her and poisoning his mind against her, Cora would’ve wanted to make Regina happy.
When Cora said Regina would’ve been “enough”, she was dying. Who’s to say Cora wouldn’t have wanted more after a few weeks.

Well I agree but that’s the Charmings, not Belle. If she felt BELLE posed a direct thread to Regina, then maybe she would have gone after Belle. But as it was, both Mills women see Belle as a pawn to getting to Rumple. So if Cora would have gone after Belle (still not convinced she would have in an effort to better herself for Regina) it wouldn’t have been out of jealousy, but part of the game.
When Cora said Regina would’ve been “enough”, she was dying. Who’s to say Cora wouldn’t have wanted more after a few weeks.
And who is to say she would have?
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"November 30, 2013 at 8:56 am #227081PriceofMagicParticipantI still think Cora’s ambitions would’ve reared their ugly head again, especially after the novelty of being able to feel had worn off. Look how Cora was with Rumple when she didn’t have a heart, she was still sniffing around him in that SHE initiated a kiss with him, Rumple went along with it because she had something he wanted.
Whilst I do think Cora would’ve been “better” when she had her heart in regards to Regina, she would see Rumple as the one last thing she needs to be truly happy. Rumple told Regina that Cora still held “a place in his heart”, if Cora had caught wind of that, she’d want to make that a reality. Originally Regina was meant to be Rumple’s child, that was the deal Cora and Rumple made. Having a heart would make Cora think that she had a second chance to do things “right” which means being a good mother to Regina and being Rumple’s partner.
Perhaps Cora would eventually accept RumBelle, however I think she would go through a period where she does want him back, where she wants what could’ve been. It’s during that period that Belle would be most at risk from Cora.

But I think that kiss was a power play. It wasn’t romantic in the sense of “I still want you” it was, “I’ve become the master and now I can make you do as I want.” She is reinforcing their power relationship where she was always the one who could get Rumple to do things he may not want to do: i.e. give up Bae.
Rumple told Regina that Cora still held “a place in his heart”, if Cora had caught wind of that, she’d want to make that a reality.
Eh. Not convinced. I think Cora with her heart and her child would have recognized her past sins and her past mistakes. She would have tried to be the best mother possible. And I think she would recognize that what she had with Rumple was a “time and place and situation” deal whereas what Rumbelle has is TL regardless of time and place. Would Cora really have loved what her very Dark One Rumple became? The one she fell in love with was the no hold bar Dark One, not the Post-Belle, Post-Insanity, Post-Mr Gold, Rumple who is a combo of all the other Rumple’s before him.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"November 30, 2013 at 10:27 pm #227116obisgirlParticipantJane Espenson said something similar on the DVD commentary for The Miller’s Daughter:
Now I get a lot of people who say, “Well if he really loved Cora then that means his love for Belle means nothing! It’s nothing! If he’s loved anyone in his whole life, he could never truly have one true love with Belle.” I just feel like we – people love a lot of people in a lifetime. They love them all differently, and clearly there was something very, very special about his love with Belle because that kiss transformed him and this one did not. But that doesn’t mean he didn’t love Cora. It’s just… it’s… it’s… call it less than… certainly it was different than, but he – I absolutely believe he was able to love both those women, and Milah – his wife originally.
