me too.
[adrotate group="5"]February 24, 2012 at 2:06 am #137583SnickerdoodleParticipantSo I have done a little stalking on other blogs and at roneyzone they have a wonderful little article about where else we have seen the tree…
1) It is on the door of the police car in the insignia
2) It is on the design of the police badge given to Emma by Graham
3) It is etched on the vase in David and Kathryn’s home when they are eating dinner (Skin Deep)So obviously this tree or a tree is important.
Also found in my digging around that Nostos (in OUAT ep13 the siren was in Lake Nostos) is a Greek word meaning “homecoming” and is a theme used in Homer’s Odyssey, so I feel sure this perhaps goes with the something lost being found idea (a homecoming of sorts). A siren is also present in Homer’s Odyssey.
One last note, and I may a bit naive here, but after James coming to the lake and the switch back to Storybrooke and the stranger taking Emma to the well, my initial and automatic reaction was that the water from the well came from Lake Nostos. I couldn’t figure why they would make such a big deal about the lake in FTL and then show us the well in SB if there was not a connection.
February 24, 2012 at 2:48 am #137584hjbauParticipantI noticed the tree when David and Kathryn were eating also. I keep wondering if Kathryn is working with the evil queen. Every character can’t be good and sympathetic. I think some need to be working for the other side.

Based on what you’ve outlined of the article ( do you have a link? ) – it sounds like some sort of insignia/symbol. So it stands for something ( ex: Caduceus is often associated with the medical field. ) If it is the local government – it should show up in public works – & government run locations. ( Like – if Storybrooke has / if he ever see it’s Post Office or Bank. / The Library also comes to mind. )
( You’ve got me off on this whole other train of thought now – I’ll have to dig deeper in regards to all this & re-watch some eps. to see if I see the tree anywhere else besides what is mentioned. )
The home-coming in the Odyssey took fifteen years – (maybe the curse has a potency of 15 yrs? ). I’m also pretty sure 5 of those years were spent with Circe on her island. She kind of cheated by manipulating time outside of the island.
I’m pretty sure that Lake Nostos is the underground lake that the Stranger was referring to in the legend. So the water from the well is fed from the same lake ( at least – that’s my theory. ) And that’s going based on the whole – Storybrooke is on top of FTL theory.
But yeah – the dialog was too in-depth for it not to be important.
@ hjbau ;; I think Kathryn is neutral right now. As far as someone working for the evil side – I’d say Sydney is a pretty obvious help to Regina & she obviously has him completely under her thumb. As far as anyone else who might be on her side – the nurse @ the hospital comes to mind. ( The fact that she gave her a red rose makes me think she’s the ‘Queen of Hearts’ – you know – what with ‘painting the roses red’ & all that. ) That’s off-topic though.

I think the tree is the the insignia for the town probably because of the Evil Queen’s apple tree.

that is very interesting. I wonder if Regina has some power over the apple trees in Storybrooke. Like we have never really seen any characters try to eat her apples, except for Mr. Gold in episode 2 and even then, he tossed it back. And I think he said it’s not going to work on me, or something.
Snow ate an apple in episode 7 in a flashback, but do we know if she got that apple from Regina’s tree or was it an apple she picked up along the way when she was walking with the huntsman?
February 24, 2012 at 2:11 pm #137596miaParticipantThe apple Snow ate in that episode wasn’t from Regina’s tree. Her apples are deep red and the one Snow ate was red, green, yellow, a “normal” apple.

the link at roneyzone media for the tree:)http://ouat.roneyzone.com/where-have-we-seen-the-storybrooke-tree-before/
THE APPLE TREE IS A GOOD THOUGHT AS WELL SINCE REGINA RUNS THE TOWN, BUT IT SEEMS LIKE THE ISIGNIA WOULD INCLUDE AN APPLE SOMEHOW. ALSO IF YOU LOOK AT THE TREE BY THE WELL COMPARED TO REGINA’S APPLE TREE, SEEMS LIKE THE ETCHING/INSIGNIA/ETC. SO FAR LOOKS MORE LIKE THAT TREE. BUT I HAD NOT THOUGHT OF THE APPLE TREE, SO THAT DEFINITELY BECOMES A POSSIBILITY.
February 24, 2012 at 6:10 pm #137616fairytaleprincessParticipantI like the tree theory. August does seem to know quite a bit about StoryBrooke, more than just the luck of reading a plaque and says he never tells a lie.
The only problem is that he was not in StoryBrooke from the start, he “was” a “stranger.” That being said there may be a flaw in that because Ragina did say he seemed familiar.
Great research!February 24, 2012 at 7:17 pm #137625 -
