Mia – I’m with you here. Somehow Rumple was able to figure out that Snow and James’ love was strong enough to be able to, essentially, withstand any curse. And I think that’s how he figured out that he would be able to “bottle love.” So I don’t think he was lying when he said that no one could bottle love. I think he figured out that because their love was so strong, he could predict that no matter what happened to them they would end up married and with a child so he knew if he could get their DNA he could combine it in a bottle and literally bottle love by combining their DNA to “produce” love in a bottle. But I’m with you, I don’t understand how he knew that their love was so strong – he knew it better than they did! I wondered if maybe it was part of his own curse to be able to recognize true love in others because he felt that he became so unloveable – but then the whole Belle thing kind of threw me for a loop because you would then assume that he would have recognized that Belle did truely love him. Unless, I guess, he thought that the queen was using magic to trick him into believing it was really love when it really wasn’t – which I guess WAS what happened.

I think that Rumpel wanted the bottle of love because it is part of the ingredients for the Dark Curse. He seemed to have a shelf full of things and that was the last one. That may be why Emma is the savior to break the curse because the bottle of love came from her parents.
this is my favorite theory so far – it makes perfect sense as to why Emma must be the savior of the curse, and it couldn’t have been anyone else’s child.

Rumplestiltskin created it before Emma and probably Snow were born, but he said Emma could break it. I think he must have done something with the hairs which would be her DNA or at least her DNA source to key the curse to her. If not I can’t see how he would know an unborn child would break the curse. Just a theory.

I like this theory too! What is the most wonderful thing true love can produce? A child :). And if true love breaks any curse (incl the dark curse), Emma born out of the “truest” love fits the bill. Maybe Emma has to find or reunite with her true love to help break the curse.

We know he knows who he really is, who Regina really is, and where they come from. I suspect he allowed himself to be captured when he contracted with C knowing she was tricking him, to throw off suspicion and move his plan along. After all, he created the dark curse, and is way too clever to give its power over to anyone else much less anyone as dangerous as EQ unless he wanted it used for some reason, and knew how and had the “tools” required to counter it, according to his own timetable, of course. I believe his ultimate motive is personal release and redemption.

I also believe he knows what happens to the person who enacted it when the curse does break. That’s why I think he gave the curse to the EQ to enact: 1. first what it entails to enact it (killing what you love most) and Rumple couldn’t do that. He would never sacrifice Bael (or Belle). and 2. what happens as the curse breaks. I agree that he wants personal release and redemption. Can’t wait to see how this all plays out!
