em28, That’s Charming for you 😛
But truth said, he is right. Emma has no place in FTL but Charming and the rest clearly miss the place, it’s going to be really tricky to balance it if at all possible! At least he’s sure of his priorities. Also, I don’t think the Charmings have much connection with Emma anyway. True, they are her friends but
a) they were missing from her life for 28 years, there is no parent-daughter bond at this stage. Yes, they would like one, but it’s not as easy as clicking your fingers.
b) it would be different if they were different age. But they aren’t and that creates yet another, entire new barrier. Also, both Charming and David Nolan have actually spent relatively very little time with Emma compared to Snow – before the curse Emma lived with Snow and later on they spent together some time fighting/bonding in FTL. Yes, once they were back they were finally able to start catching up as a so called family, but I think it was quite clear that Charming’s priority was making up for the lost time to his wife rather than his daughter…

Wow. That is so dissapointing.
I do agree with Snow though, her home is with her family. I think though if theres a time where Charming and Snow decide to go to FTL, Emma will follow with Henry, because Emma has been abandoned too many times, and that will probably break her.
Maybe once Charming and Snow find out what Neal did to her and why she has trust issues etc. they will think twice before making a decision, because they’ll realise how deeply hurt she is.But I do agree that the age difference makes it difficult. But she is still their daughter, so they can’t just leave her and have another daughter to replace her.
Anyway, a parent can’t leave their child that easily, so it’s so shocking that Charming can think that so easily.February 11, 2013 at 12:01 pm #172443PheeParticipantIt is disappointing that Charming hasn’t bonded with his daughter more. But if they’ve done that on purpose so they can set up this rift between Snowing, then I guess it’s at least serving a purpose. If Charming were as close to Emma as Snow is, then they wouldn’t disagree as much about the going or staying, and they couldn’t do this storyline with the same emotional impact. Perhaps he’s intentionally been keeping his distance, because he honestly believes they’ll be separated again in the not too distant future.

Hmm… that does make sense. Charming certainly is a worrier.
February 11, 2013 at 1:19 pm #172466evilqueenParticipantThat would be interesting but I’ve always thought of Charming as a family man (he was very attached to his mum) so I just get the feeling he simply can’t bring himself up to see Emma fully as his daughter, especially that he had absolutely no impact into her life and to how she was brought up, even though her values match closely with his.

Theres one thing that I can’t stop thinking about in this episode. When David said to Snow that he wants to go back to their land and that Emma can ‘take care of herself’, did he mean to leave Emma in SB while they go off to live their lives in FTL? I hope I’m wrong, because I was so shocked when he said that. He just got his daughter back and he wants to leave..? 😯
This really stood out to me as well…it was such a contrast to when Emma and Henry were leaving with Gold and he asked Gold to keep them safe…I was like “What happened in this episode that made him do a 180.” and is now saying Emma can take care of herself…it was just so strange.
February 11, 2013 at 1:44 pm #172474RumplesGirlKeymasterThis wasn’t my favorite episode of season so far, but I do think it’s doing a good job of setting up the next few seasons.
Best bits: we got answers about Jack and the Giants. The flashbacks were ok, not my favorite bit. But it was good to see Josh Dallas as evil James again. He does the bad guy quite well. Rumple, Emma and Henry. Every scene of theirs was AWESOME. Poor Rumple. He’s just like everyone else now and that terrifies him. Also, so many LOST references!!
Least favorite bits: I really want some Charming/Emma father daughter time. I also thought there were some huge plot holes in this episode. Like: how did Cora bring Anton? Where did Regina get the piece of magic mushroom? And, in the first flashback the Head Giant said it took a century of cultivating before they could harvest the beans. So, why does Cora want beans if it takes 100 yrs to grow??"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"February 11, 2013 at 1:48 pm #172476dena81ParticipantFavorite moment: The running scene where Leroy goes on “Isn’t your name James too?” And David’s “No David’s my name” “No that’s your curse name what’s your real name?” “David IS my real name!” “I thought that was your curse name? I’m going to call you whatever I damn well please!” So grumpy hhahaha
And the mentioning of Ajira during the flight, took me back to my Lost days which is the main reason I started watching Once for Emile =D

I know they said that time was the same in parallel worlds but I’m beginning to wonder if 100 years to FTL means less time in our world…(maybe just in how they refer to it)…or to a giant 100 years is only say 10 years in FTL and our world. Or maybe they are setting us up for some big reveal about time. Then again maybe it’s just a plot hole. 😀 geez is Sunday here yet.
February 11, 2013 at 1:52 pm #172479RumplesGirlKeymasterOh, I’m not sure if this has been confirmed but when Belle was watching TV and the guy was announcing Expose (LOST reference!) I’m pretty sure the guy speaking was Damon Lindeloff, the creator of LOST. Not to mention that Ruby gave Belle “The Mysterious Island” and it was going to take 42 mins to get to NYC from Logan Airport. So many LOST references make my heart happy.
