ABC’s Once Upon a Time, at long last, is taking on the story of Aladdin, as revealed during a Season 6 teaser that debuted at the San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday.
At the close of Once‘s panel, Deniz-Akdeniz cocreators Adam Horowitz and Eddy Kitsis gave the audience one more treat — in the form of the first three minutes from the Sunday, Sept. 25 season premiere. At the close of the clip, viewers met Aladdin, who is being played by Deniz Akdeniz (South Beach, right).
Poised to get in the street rat, riff-raff’s face, meanwhile, is Covert Affairs favorite Oded Fehr, as the evil Jafar. (Lost alum Naveen Andrews played the Royal Vizier of Agrabah on the short-lived Once Upon a Time in Wonderland spinoff, but was unavailable to reprise the role, due to his Sense8 commitments.)

I’m so, so, so disappointed. Naveen was the perfect Jafar. It’s one thing to replace a minor character but this is something else. He was one of the MAIN characters in Wonderland. If Naveen wasn’t available (which he wasn’t) they should have just left Jafar out.
I would not be surprised if they won’t acknowledge Wonderland at all anymore.

THIS
If Naveen wasn’t able to come, then leave Jafar out! This isn’t like replacing Robin in S3 or Gaston in S5. This was a guy who was in 13 episodes of the spin off!

Or, there ends up being two Jafars that exist in the same universe, just like there were two Ursulas. I’m not a fan of either option.
This also has me worried now that we’ll see Anastasia in the Cinderella episode – with another new actress.
The sad thing is, I really like Oded Fehr. He’s a great actor. He would have made a great older Aladdin or another important character. I’d have been thrilled. But this leaves a really sour taste in my mouth.

And I guess if we hadn’t already had Naveen as Jafar, we’d all be more accepting of Oded’s Jafar. Oded seemed alright in the clip we got, so maybe I’ll warm up to him a little more as time goes on. Still, I’ll miss Naveen.
From the one or two episodes I saw of OUAT Wonderland, Naveen was a pretty convincing Jafar in every way possible…so I wonder how they will even acknowledge the sudden switch!
UNLESS Jafar had a secret son, named Jafar Jr., and that’s the one who takes over the tale of Aladdin as we know it!

I think they may just be ignoring OUATIW which is a shame. Either that or they might pull a “Jafar changes his appearance for reasons” card.
All magic comes with a price!
