For 13 whole episodes?! And all the backstories we saw with Jafar?
I mean the opening scene for 601 says “many years ago!”
I don’t think it’ll be explained in story. It’s just a recast. Only a selection of the OUAT parent show even watched OUAT in WL. So, to the majority of viewers, Jafar is simply a new character.

There were a lot of gaps in Jafar’s story that could be filled somehow. We don’t know how long it took Jafar to find Cyrus, nor do we know how long it took for Jafar to go to Wonderland. Weren’t Alice and Cyrus together for quite some time, before the Red Queen and Jafar kidnapped him? However, the other unanswered question is how Jafar and Aladdin first met, because that can also complicate the timeline.

Nothing in my world makes sense and I give up trying to guess. I’m with @Kranen at this point; WL was 100% separate from OUAT
