I’m still going with this actually being Tiger Lily since the article mentions she has a connection to Hook, which she does in the original story. Plus, having her be Pocahontas would be incredibly problematic for the reasons already explained. This announcement also comes shortly after Tink was confirmed to return, which could further point to a Neverland connection.

It almost seems like the only real piece of information is that they cast Tiger Lily and all the rest is just a bunch of guess work. Who knows at this point.
I also really worry about them being able to depict a native American character well. I am not convinced the writers are good enough especially with their LGBT episode being so blah and their lack of diversity amongst the main cast.
January 11, 2017 at 8:49 pm #332561RumplesGirlKeymasterI guess I don’t get *why* they are bringing in Tiger Lily. To just flesh out Hook more? Does she have anything to offer the current plot of the Black Fairy/Gideon?

More than likely. I don’t see why she would have anything to do directly with Black Fairy or Gideon, Pan obviously is dead, and if shes in multiple episodes it will probably be present day. I’m guessing she has a past with Hook and will be either a friend or foe in the present.

I just can’t stand the idea of bringing in another female character who’s only purpose is as a love interest.

Just like how they looked for “Rumple’s Mother” for Merida and “Sinbad and that other arabian princess” for Aladdin and Jasmine. I know the Polynesian people are not even remotely close to Native Americans, but this could just be a decoy to polynesian people, and both groups have roughly the same skin tone.
Tiger Lily is known for living on Neverland, which is an island. Moana’s entire thing is that she lived on an island and wanted to sail on the sea. And it even fits with the Hook tie-in he owns a ship and sails on the sea.
We also have Ariel and Eric coming back, who are currently stuck on an island, which could be Motonui, Moana’s island.
And the whole “she’s willing to risk her life for others, and will do it even faster if it benefits her”? Moana fled her island to save her island, but she also did it so she could finally see what lied beyond the reef. It kinda benefited her.
The character description (other than the native american part) actually fits Moana more than Pocahontas and even Tiger Lily herself.
So to me, it could be Tiger Lily, Pocahontas, Moana or some other character we don’t know about. I am putting my bet on Moana. The movie is the current Disney blockbuster and it won’t surprise me if they introduce her soon in attempt to help the rating.

I think Tiger Lily’s role may be similar to Ursula’s and I don’t think they’re gonna go down any scorned lovers route. A path with Hook does not mean a romantic past, and she may help him when it comes to Emma.

The issue with this is that the actors auditioning would see “Native American” just like us. The purpose of a casting call is to draw out specific types of actors, so race isn’t something that would be lied about. Even when they lied about casting for Rumple’s mother, they were still looking for someone who was Scottish. The actors don’t find out whether a casting call is a red herring or not until after the fact. Karen David talked about how she didn’t know she was auditioning for Jasmine until she literally arrived for her audition.
January 13, 2017 at 4:11 pm #332609RumplesGirlKeymasterI think Moana is a long shot–the movie is still *really* new (like, still in theaters new). And like Matt said, the cast call does say Native American and A and E would come under some (deservedly) heavy fire if they called for a Native American to play a Polynesian.
