As of right now he seems more important to Cursed!Emma than Real!Emma. Which is why I sorta think he might be a one time 312 character. But hey…I could be 10000% wrong too
I’m thinking that Christopher Gorham’s character is someone from real Emma’s past (e.g. her foster brother). He could also be someone from her present, despite her being cursed. Perhaps they grew up together, but haven’t seen each other in 15 odd years. They then run into each other again while Emma is cursed, but Chris’ character either doesn’t know about Emma’s fairytale identity or chooses not to disclose it to her, because it would cause a very odd reaction in her, just like the time August tried to convince Emma he was a wooden man named Pinocchio. Emma, cursed not to remember her real identity, just would not believe she were the daughter of Snow White and Prince Charming without the Blue Fairy’s potion.

I’m thinking Christopher Gorham’s character could be Emma Swan’s serious, long-term boyfriend from the past year of her life. It would be very interesting. It would somewhat parallel Neal’s relationship with Tamara. Also, it would leave us wondering just who is the best pick for Emma Swan.
Oh the SFer in me finds the idea of him being her fiancee rather intriguing. In 311 they had Emma forced into a situation where she had to leave people she loved, for the sake of Henry still having a parent, and it happened because of the Curse, which parallels nicely with how Neal was forced into a situation where he had to leave someone he loved, for the sake of her finding her parents, and it happened because of the Curse. That’s gonna give Emma a new perspective on what Neal did. So if they wanna give her a surprise fiancee in NYC to really level the SF playing field, and give her even more perspective on the situation that Neal was in with Tamara (ie: would Emma tell Neal about the fiancee when she sees him again or not), then I’d be OK with that.
It’s just that I can already hear the collective groan from the fandom at large if this guy is yet another love interest.

So I guess I think it would be a good thing for Emma, even when the old memories surface just in terms of giving her some perspective to better know what she wants in a romance that isn’t formed in some kind of high stakes situation.
In any case, I also would love to learn more about Emma’s childhood and background in general, so if a mentor/foster-brother or someone who knew the old Emma, maybe in the post-Neal and pre-SB days, that would be awesome too. It might make sense as well for her to call someone and say “look did I have a kid when I worked for you” and for that person to say “no, Emma what are you talking about? You were alone when I taught you how to be a bailbonds person.”
The whole connection to Rapunzel thing though is what really throws me, and I just love the idea of him being Henry Gale so much, but it all might be too much to pack into one character! (When has that ever stopped them, really?).

I loved that idea when you first posted it, and I still sorta love it, I just think it might be possible that the scene with him happens after she’s already remembered. The non-desperate way Hook’s talking to her in what I assume is the same restaurant where she shot with Gorham outside, makes me think that she’s gonna get her memories back during the day (after drinking the potion outside the cop station), and then be meeting Gorham that night. If so, then she’d have no need to ask an old friend if she’d always had a kid.

Just noticed how much Gorham’s smile reminds me of James Franco’s. Franco did play the WofOz in Oz: The Great and Powerful.
Christopher Lloyd also played the WofOz and he would come and go from Oz to our world to help bring back Dorothy’s memories in Dorothy and the Witches of Oz.
