I think it is very unlikely that Bae is going to be anyone else then Rumpel’s son. It is like Emma taking the place of the prince from sleeping beauty in the real world part of the story. I don’t think that actually makes her the prince from sleeping beauty, even though she killed the dragon and woke the sleeper. She is still the daughter of Snow and Charming and that is her counterpart. And since Ep 4 is a Rumpel episode the next one will not be about Bae.
[adrotate group="5"]August 30, 2012 at 11:12 pm #153450lilredParticipantHonestly, I’ve been hoping since the end of the last season for Baelfire to be Jack, took a bean to Boston (his giant’s castle) and Jorge Garcia to play his ‘giant’: be it a crime leader, a bad foster parent, or combine the characters of the giant and his wife into being a sympathetic character. I’m sooo excited to see Jorge Garcia join the cast, even if it’s only for a short time!
I like the idea of both Emma and Baelfire standing alone and being their OWN characters to some extent – but look at the cast we now have: out of the parts announced and the cast members – it really does look like we’ll have some possible characters overlapping again.
But I suppose, with this show, it shouldn’t surprise if Jack and/or Peter Pan (and any other character need this season) are parts/counterparts of returning cast members…and then: maybe Bae is his own character…like Emma.
August 31, 2012 at 12:07 am #153451hjbauParticipantI know i do not want Emma to have another identity. And really with Rumpel being the Beast it is just that there is no Beast and Rumpel takes the place of him. He is still just Rumpel. It isn’t like he is actually another character. It is only the Gennie and the Mirror that is actually two different characters.
August 31, 2012 at 12:53 am #153456lilredParticipantAgain: I’m aware of that! I re-read my post and am pretty sure that’s what I said. I never said anything about one actor playing several roles (except, clearly they all do with the FTL and Storybrooke) I meant taking on more than one fictional character and combining them into one role.
Thanks hjbau for making me want to delete this account, yet again! Other members have already made me question this: but now I’m pretty certain. It’s not even fun to post here anymore.
August 31, 2012 at 1:13 am #153457hjbauParticipantSorry, I didn’t mean to upset. I don’t even know what i said. I wasn’t trying to be attacky, I was actually agreeing with you. I know how you feel about the forum though.

Yes, if we’re going to find out what happened to Bae this season, assuming the Blue Fairy wasn’t lying or wrong about him going to a place without magic, then his back story must take place in the real world. So I agree with your theory that I don’t think the Giant will be a real Giant, just look like one and/or have that nickname. I would guess that he would be a crime leader too albeit depending on how they do the story, one of those crime figures that the audience still generally likes because he’s a brother figure or father figure helping bring in the scared young person into the family, but he could also be a bad foster too that helps recruit all of his kids into crime. (I guess sort of like in “Oliver”.)

I like that idea too since for me Emma, Bae, and Henry would be the only wholly original characters. However, I think like the producers have talked about how Emma’s back story is like the “Ugly Duckling”, it can also work that Bae is also Jack if his back story takes place in the real world. He’s not really Fairy Tale Jack as everyone knows that particular story, but he would be Jack in the sense that he was a young, naive kid that got brought to a new world full of giant everything via magical bean. Plus, since Jack is such a common name and Baelfire isn’t, he may have been rechristened Jack when he came here either because Baelfire was thought too weird by the people that found him or most likely, he was too scared at the time to tell them his real name.
Of course, it could be that Jack and Bae will be two totally different characters, but since they’ve been very mysterious now about the Jack casting call and are being very mysterious with who Michael Raymond-James is going to be, for me it fits that Bae came to Earth, most likely Boston or somewhere around Boston, changed his name or had his name changed to Jack, eventually falls into a bad crowd, where he meets Jorge Garcia’s “Giant”. Something happens that leads to Bae actually killing the “Giant” or perhaps they just have Bae doing something that ultimately leads to the “Giant’s” death, which could certainly fit with the casting call of Jack running away from his past if he murdered someone or did something that lead to the murder of someone.

I just wanna third that theory. Though obviously Jorge is on the larger side, I really don’t imagine them CGI-ing him into being an actual giant. It’d be far more interesting if he’s the personification of a giant obstacle of some description for Jack.
PS. I hope you don’t leave the forum, Lil’Red. Always like reading you posts and your beantown theory is one of the cleverest ideas I’ve read, so much so that I’ll actually be bummed if Adam and Eddy don’t take advantage of that idea.

That’s an interesting idea, that maybe the Jack/Giant story we’ll get won’t necessarily be intended to be a re-telling of the Jack/Giant fairytale story we’re familiar with.
Even if not though, if he is intended to be Jack and the Beanstalk Jack, I don’t think it confuses matters if he’s also Bae, coz I don’t really see Emma and Bae as being the same category of character. It’s true that they’re both characters who were children and were created by the show, but for me that’s where the similarity ends. Emma was born moments before FTL ended, so logically, she couldn’t be a character in a fairytale we all know, because no more fairytales were created once FTL went *poof*.
Bae was born centuries ago though, so it’s entirely possible that he had adventures of his own that came to be re-told and became a story we all know. So we think we know Jack’s story, but really, we only know the half of it, coz we don’t know that he started out as the son of Rumplestiltskin. That’s what this show is all about, telling us how stuff really happened. It’s like an expose, all the secrets of FTL that they didn’t want us to know, but Adam and Eddy found the secret files and are opening our eyes to the truth. 😉

I didn’t even think about the CGI if they made him a real Giant. 😯 Some things they do okay, but yes I would be worried that it might not come out that well if they went that route.

I hope you stay too.

That’s a good point that the reason we don’t know about Emma is because she came to our world right before FTL ended.
I also thought of another parallel between Emma and Bae later yesterday. First they were something entirely different in their world, but then they had to come to our world and adapt and become something else. Then, they both go back to their world, at least their world as it now is in Storybrooke, and people will probably want them to be something else if Bae is Jack. It’s already happened with Emma, and if Bae is going by a new name, I could see Rumple always calling him Bae or Baelfire, and Jack always being annoyed by it. I could also see some of the other characters calling him Bae out of spite just irritate him.
Although there’s not only that because I think while Rumple has probably imagined many different ways that Bae turned out, I think when he finally meets the real!Bae and finds out what he’s been up to, it will still come as a shock to Rumple. He’s probably expecting his son to still be similar to the last memories he had, but if Bae became Jack and Henry’s father, while I think he’ll be on the side of good, he’ll also probably be very cynical at the very least, and perhaps seem very dark. So I can see that being one issue that father and son will have to deal with when they finally reunite in that Rumple wants to see more of the young!Bae in adult!Bae and tries to get his son to be less cynical and more hopeful especially about love and family, but Bae clashing with Rumple because after being scarred for life by his father and perhaps his mother abandoning him, he’s probably afraid to get too close to people again which is another thing he would have in common with Emma.

Second this! Think about his confrontation with August. I can’t think of the direct quote, but it was something along the lines of ‘you’ve always been the bigger (better) man, son. Now, I need you to be the bigger man once again and forgive me.’ He seems to expect the anger and bitterness, but still thinks his son has retained his bravery and noble nature. If Bae is (at least on the surface) the complete wreck some of us are suggesting – think how crushing that will be for Rumple and the amazing acting opportunity for Robert Carlyle (maybe enough to actually get a nomination!)
Have you heard anything else about MRJ’s proposed pilot, ANTBEE? That wonderful gif series on tumblr had me completely ready for him to be Baelfire…and now…….I’ll kind of be disappointed if he’s just Peter Pan or Jack (or other).

Yes, I keep thinking about the song “Cats in the Cradle” every time I think of Rumple and Bae finally reuniting. Perhaps it won’t be exactly like that song, but Robert Carlyle should have a lot of good material to work with when he realizes what a hardened person Bae grew up to be.

He didn’t reply, but it was just one of his friends offering it to him over Twitter. I would just guess that he couldn’t come right out and say on Twitter that he’ll be back next season on Once, so that’s why he didn’t answer. For now, I’m still assuming that he’s Bae/Henry’s dad/Jack because no offense to MR-J, but if they wanted to just introduce Peter or Jack to be a short term love interest to Emma since Lancelot looks to be ruled out now, Prince Phillip already has two girls in love with him it seems from spoilers, and Hook is a villain, I don’t think that MR-J would be high up on the list. Now if they wanted to cast someone for a meaty, complex role, then it makes sense as to why they chose MR-J.
