Here’s another way to look at it:
Cora loved Regina. We know this for a fact. Everything she did was for Regina, to give her a better life than what she grew up with. With or without a heart, that’s still something that every parent wants for their child.
Malcolm did not love Rumple. He said so in the winter finale. He didn’t treat him like his son, more like an younger brother. I think the way I described it in my true love meta, Malcolm was like a frat brother and didn’t treat Rumple like a son, it was more of a “hey, buddy, let’s go do this cool thing and go to Neverland and do some crazy stuff together because we can.”
Sultan is indifferent to Jafar. And being indifferent, he won’t flinch or change his mind and hasn’t at all. He has no regrets, like Pan about his actions. Cora I think, had some regrets in regard to Regina.
[adrotate group="5"]January 16, 2014 at 9:13 pm #237618RumplesGirlKeymasterMalcolm did more than just go after Rumple and hurt him though. He kept telling Rumple to leave the island and go home to Belle. BUT when Rumple decided to fight, Pan didn’t go after him…he went after the people Rumple loved, Nealfire and Belle. And he would do it gleefully just for the sake of hurting his son. to cripple Rumple, he will kill those he loves.
Can they be equally horrible?

Oh I totally agree but Pan was going to kill Rumple’s son and TL and then take away Rumple’s memories and lock him in time and make everyone bend to his will. Which is why I’m still torn. It’s like…this is going to sound horrible…killing is easy and simple and clean. Once you’re dead, you’re dead *unless you exist in a fantastical world ruled by laws that we don’t udnerstand* But to be a memory-less slave for the rest of your life and then if by chance you do get your memories back, the two reasons for your existence are gone….that ‘s pretty bad.

they’re both horrible, but Pan is a lot worse, I think. the amount of pain he caused Rumpel his whole life was horrible, and the last thing he was about to do, to kill his own son’s loved ones just for kicks! just to see him suffer! ouch!!!! I can’t even imagine Rumpel if he really did kill them! he’d be broken! (no, there has to be a better word. broken doesn’t even begin to describe…)
January 16, 2014 at 9:25 pm #237626RumplesGirlKeymasterI think it’s a really hard call.
And we haven’t seen the end of the Sultan/Jafar story yet. We HAVE seen the end of the PP/Rumple story and PP didn’t repent at all. Even to his last he tried to bribe Rumple into taking the knife out of his back promising a happy ending.

exactly. there are things far worse than death
January 16, 2014 at 9:29 pm #237629RumplesGirlKeymasterexactly. there are things far worse than death
It’s like Regina and Snow. Regina chose not to kill Snow but to make her suffer for all of time with the apple. That was the real punishment, to be trapped forever. And then when that didn’t work, she went to the curse which was essentially the same thing except it affected more than just Snowing.
So while murdering your child gets you banned from my Xmas card list for all of time and yes the Sultan is a horrible person/parent and I don’t like him at all….he DID love his other child. And he did try to protect his throne for this other child. He didn’t abuse his son. Pan was willing to make EVERYONE suffer.

true too, RG.

Right I doubt we will. But like I said above that means he died totally unrepentant and unto his final breathe was trying to manipulate his son with the promise of a happy ending (LIES). The Sultan does stick by his guns and refused to give into Jafar.
I hate them both.
