I think when it comes to Regina, Emma has blinders. That’s why she’s still fooled by Sidney.

We don’t know that he is lying. He said something about the phone records not lying – maybe he’s right. If the records are accurate, all we know is that an 8 minute phone call was made between David’s and Kathryn’s PHONES. Who knows who was on the end of either of them.
Emma could easily verify the records she received from Sydney by contacting the phone company herself – Regina isn’t a complete fool, so if she’s to blame here she would have somehow used David’s actual phone to call Kathryn’s phone so the records would be real.
Meanwhile – has anyone even considered the idea that perhaps Mr. Gold is the one messing with this situation? He’s been under the radar for too long. These writers like to use misdirection just like any magician.

In this week’s episode, we again saw Emma placing a lot of faith in her “super-power” of being able to tell when someone’s lying to her, but Sidney’s been playing her for weeks now. Is she going to get a rude awakening in terms of her alliances any time soon?
Yeah, I think eventually, for sure. I feel like she’s always been a little bit skeptical of Sidney only because he did come from being so deep in Regina’s pocket that it’s hard for Emma to believe that someone could really make that much of a turnaround. But she’s also in a town where she doesn’t have a lot of people who are on her side. So, sometimes I think she feels that she has to take the best-worst option. It’s like she knows that there may be something to be skeptical about with Sidney, and yet, he seems like the best possible option at this point. She almost has to force herself to believe that he’s going to be trustworthy because she has no other choice. He’s really the only person she has access to that can get her the information that she needs and to help her try to solve this case. But yes, at some point, she will definitely have a rude awakening in terms of how deeply he’s not supporting her.Read more here: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/03/12/once-upon-a-time_n_1338893.html
I also like the theory that was mentioned on another thread that the reason Emma can’t see through Sidney is because he’s a metaphoric mirror. He reflects light, but doesn’t let it filter through (so to speak).

Sidney lied to Emma about being fired by Regina in ‘The Fruit of the Poisonous Tree.’ ‘Cause remember, we saw at the end of the episode, that he was still working for her.
And those phone records could have been falsified. I didn’t think it was strange at first that Regina printed them out at her office but yeah, she could have edited them to make it look like David had lied — which he has done in the past.
