Regarding Pompeii, another town wiped out in ’79 AD was Herculaneum, presumedly named after Hercules. His father Zeus was also known as Ves and Hercules as Vesouvios. Greeks and Romans alike believed that Mount Vesuvius was the dwelling place of Hercules. Maybe Pompeii and it’s surrounding Volcano and its myths is a foreshadowing of Hercules coming. I thought it was worth mentioning.
