ParticipantBut I think this is going to be a moment of Rumple choosing his destiny (= choosing to die) for his family which will keep with his promise to protect Belle and Gideon and save Emma from having to do the Savior thing AND end the cycle of choosing power over family.
Okay now that I have had a night to process this, I am going to try and give me a bibliophile some hope. The problem with this theory is that he has already done this. He chose his destiny (a young man will lead you to your son and be your undoing) for his family which kept the promise of protecting Belle and Bae. If this was how they wished to end Rumple’s character why did they bring him back in the first place. The ultimate savior sacrifice for Rumple is not dying it is giving up his powers. He is more than willing to die to protect his family but is he willing to give up all his power and live as he was before becoming the dark one. This would mean that he has to accept that he is a worthy individual capable of bravery without dark one powers. He has proven this in the past, but then immediately reverted to the dark one. I don’t think it is a coincidence that he was the one who had to pull the Excalibur sword from the stone proving that he was a hero who was worthy of the sword. The fact that it is also part of the dark one dagger and we have the prophesy by merlin about someone being able to wield the dark one dagger with light magic just emphasizes this. I also don’t think it is a coincidence that he has never given his power up freely, it was sucked out of him without his knowledge. Rumple’s finale redemption would be giving up his dark one’s power to save his family
Rumple states that their family is spinning on a dark wheel in which they continue to choose power over love. Fiona severed Rumple from his destiny to protect him but could have chosen severing her destiny instead (she took the easy way out because she was scared), Rumple became the dark one to save Bae and in process looses him (because he chose the easy way out becasue he was scared), Rumple contemplated severing Gideon’s fate of hating Rumple (which would have been the easy way out becasue he was scared). Rumple dying is the easy way out. Rumple giving up his powers and living without them is by far the harder fate for Rumple. They have even talked about this in 6A, Rumple if you want your son’s love don’t take it be worthy of it. In other words do it the hard way work for it and be brave enough to maybe fail.
On a purely story side, if they decide to end stories this season including Rumbelle’s it would be super easy to give them a happily ever after. I mean they have Rumple and Belle making a significant amount of progress working together, being honest, and trying to save their son. Why bother fixing their relationship if they are going to kill him in the end, it would have been easier on us Rumbelle fans (and more compelling and suspenseful) if they were continuing to be horrible to each other and then he sacrifices himself at the last minute and Belle is able to see that sacrifice and know that he really did care about her and Gideon. Why fix it to kill it, I don’t know about anyone else but this will just make me angry and may stop me from watching OUAT now that my favorite character is gone. It would be super easy to have Rumple CHOOSE Belle and Gideon over Power (“There is nothing wrong with power, not when it can give me..us everything we want” Belle stating, “I just wanted you, I wanted to be chosen”) de age Gideon, and have them go off somewhere just the three of them. This would make me happy and willing to continue to watch OUAT even though my favorite characters are gone.
Do I think they may kill off Rumple, I am mentally preparing myself for it, but I think it would be LAZY writing and a rehash of season 2-3 which is not cool.

ParticipantBasically: –Rumple did not banish the Black Fairy nor did he really take her heart. –The Black Fairy told Rumple that he enjoys (not quite the word, stronger than that but I can’t remember the exact wording) being the Dark One more than he would the Savior –The talk about the final battle
Thank you

NO, I just want to BELIEVE 🙂

ParticipantI was not shocked. After all Rumple was a savior when he sacrificed his life to defeat pan and save the town. I was very concerned about whether he will die in the end. I am with bibliophile and feel that us Rumbelle fans need some kind of happy ending that does not involve Rumple dying to save his son and Belle again (I actually think that would be really lazy writing and ridiculous to do lazy writing at the end of the series). I think it is interesting that he was prophesied to wield great light magic which makes me believe that he still is the one to wield light magic as the dark one like Merlin spoke of. As for his character arc over the last 6 years, I don’t think it makes a difference. I have never really seen Rumple as a coward, I think he is a man who looks at all his options and chooses the best one to protect himself and his family at the time. Has he done some cowardly things, YES but so has everyone else in the show and in life. Has he done so incredibly brave things, YES and has everyone in the show and in life. I think this should effect Rumple’s self thoughts though. Rumple has always hated himself and thought of himself as a coward now he has a reason to think this, which I think could do more harm than good.

ParticipantDo I think she is the greatest evil ever, nope. Do I feel sorry for her, not really. They gave her a story so we could feel sorry for Rumple more than her. She chose to become powerful to try and save her son by killing another baby. That is pretty dark. Rumple becomes dark to save his son (there is the parallel) but he also wanted to use his power for good to bring all the kids back (there is the complete non parallel) The BF chose power over love by cutting Rumple’s fate and keeping hers. Rumple chooses power over love by refusing to jump through the portal (parallel) but immediately regrets it and jumps into the whole begging to go (non parallel) In all I would say she at least thinks she cares about Rumple but I don’t know if she truly knows how to love. She is pretty messed up with her parenting thoughts after all she actually said that she was trying to “toughen” Gideon up. I think we should say Thank the Lord that the spinsters raised Rumple or who knows how he would have turned out.
As for Fiona and Malcolm’s relationship given what Fiona thinks about what a good parent would do for her child I think they were made for each other. The BF is a typical abusive parent who justifies her behavior and uncontrollable anger onto her victim. I was just trying to toughen him up, he needs to grow up, etc. I certainly hope this was intentional on OUAT’s part and that they are having Rumple see through this. I think they are just by the look on Robert’s face when she says this.
As for Blue, she was what she normally is, totally nonessential. Tiger Lily did more evil than good. You don’t tell a brand new mom that her baby is going to die. I don’t care what the reason is, she is going to try and change that fate and save him. Fiona becoming a fairy was a little convenient but okay.

ParticipantMy TV lost the last couple of minutes of the show due to a storm so I didn’t get to see the very end so I don’t know exactly what happend. If someone could clue me in that would be great. The last thing I saw with Rumbelle was them as a family and Rumple telling Belle and Gideon that even when they don’t think so, everything he does is for them.
As for Rumple’s plan he most certainly has one. I mean Robert’s face is very expressive and Belle really should have been able to pick up on that as he is talking to Gideon and her that everything is not okay. She probably assumes it is about defeating the black fairy. As Rumple is talking to his mom it was like he was seeing the past him and all his mistakes. He had a look of disgust when BF talked about toughing Gideon up. Rumple was not buying it at all. I think it was in that moment that he started coming up with a plan to defeat the black fairy. I mean Rumple was always an incredibility loving and caring father before the dark curse so he does not buy into this tough love crap the BF was throwing about. Does he understand her, yes because she parallels him so much but he also knows that he failed as a father and does not want to fail with Gideon also. We can say many things about Rumple but he is very self aware and understands when he screws up. He knows he messed up choosing power over Bae he won’t make the same mistake with Gideon.

ParticipantI just don’t know how to feel at the moment. I loved the first ten – fifteen minutes right up until they said Rumple was prophesied to die… then my heart dropped into my shoes. Even though I knew it was likely I still held onto hope and right about now that hope is starting to shrink to mustard seed dimensions.
I am still holding out hope, because 1. his fate was severed so now that prophesy does not stand 2. I still think this would be too big for OUAT to leak out. 3. I can’t imagine that OUAT would crap again on Rumbelle fans because wow have we been put through the ringer.
I actually think that this episode just emphasizes the importance of Rumple choosing family over power. He needs to stop the viscous dark circle that his family is in and he does that by making a sacrifice of power over love.

ParticipantI was SO looking forward to this episode and for the most part it was REALLY good 9/10 although I will say that my TV lost programming in the last couple of minutes so I didn’t get to see the ending or the promo.
Liked:
Bobby Carlyle is an OUTSTANDING actor and everything he did in the episode was spot on. Wow can we even imagine an OUAT without him?
Rumple is best as a dad the scenes between him and Gideon were absolutely heart stopping
The parallels between Rumple/Fiona and Rumple/Bae were good
The black fairy is somewhat sympathetic but not enough to want to let her live. Love that they brought back the evil is not born it is made
Rumple stating at the end that everything he does whether they realize it or not is for Belle and Gideon. We always know where we stand with Rumple he cares about His family and protecting His loved ones no one else matters.
Hook asking Henry to be the best man was needed and I liked it.
Emma and Rumple working together somewhat. I did not absolutely hate Emma this episode which is an improvement.
We finally got to see a Belle and Gideon moment, which was good if short. We also got to see Belle stating that she would fight for their family
Zelena running over the Black Fairy was GREAT, I loved the fact that the feathers from her cape flew up like a chicken in flight.
Mixed:
Loved that Regina was thinking about Henry and not wanting him to be around for the finale battle so that he would not see anything damaging to him, but come on so Henry you will now be raised by the woman who killed your father. How quickly OUAT likes to forget these things
Again what is the purpose of Blue? And why would Blue interfere in Bae’s life why give him a bean to take him to the place without magic knowing who Rumple was? So many unanswered questions with her.
Why in the world would Tiger Lily give Fiona a prophesy that her son was going to be killed. Hey new mom, just so you know your son will have great light magic but he will die to save others. No new mom wants to hear this, Fiona of course was going to try and change his fate she just should have severed her fate instead of his. She chose Power over Love.
Um, Belle? All this time you’ve known that thee was a good man behind the beast and YET you turned into a shrill shrew and said there was no hope for him? But now that a vision of the past says Rumple was supposed to be a Savior suddenly you’re all lovey-dovey again? Eek.
I was one of the hardest on Belle in Season 6A so when I first saw this I was like AMEN, but then I started thinking about it and I think what Belle is saying is that maybe now Rumple can see who she has always seen. Rumple is incredibly hard on himself. He knows he is a villain and does not feel that he is either lovable or deserves to be loved. In Season 6A Belle and Rumple were both panicky messes. The reason Rumple and Belle work well as a couple is because when one of them panics (which happens quite often) the other is there to support, the problem in 6A is that they were both panicking at the same time which does not work.

Participant’m at the point with this show where I would gladly suffer CS and those horrible morals/tropes I see if it just meant I had Nealfire back. Like give me Neal, Rumple, Henry as a little unit trying to heal all the abandonment issues and CS can go do whatever they want because that’s how bad I feel Emma’s character has gotten over the past few years.
I agree completely. I like Nevermore came at Neal/Bae from a Rumple fan view. So at this point I would not want Emma with Neal, I just wanted more of this
And I most certainly would have LOVED to see more of this
And Wouldn’t it have been great just to see this, but of course that would mean having to mention more than in just passing, that Neal/Bae was ever part of the show. I mean we wouldn’t want to upset the CS shippers.
AKA
ParticipantBut I can’t really blame Hook for this.
Yeah, I don’t blame Hook for this either and I think you are dead on about the infatuation for Emma. Does that really equate to love though. I mean infatuation fades and if there is not a solid foundation underneath the relationship will not last. I think Emma is so scared of loosing someone she cares about again that she is willing to do anything to keep that from happening which unfortunately means throwing others under the bus (choosing to go after Hook instead of waking her parents from a coma to name the most recent one)
Although I will point out that Emma was right there for Zelena in this episode and ensured her that Robin would be taken care of like family. SO that was a case where Emma absolutely showed some sympathy toward someone else other than Hook,
You know what I actually agreed with you until I remembered who she is having sympathy for. She is showing sympathy for the woman who KILLED her son’s FATHER. This is the one person she shouldn’t feel sympathy for and should continue to be angry at. Zelena has made some character development but she is no where near a reformed villain and it was just last season that Zelena was bragging about killing Neal. Do I think she is on a redemption arc, yeah for the most part. I mean it is at least better developed than Hook’s lets’s all just forgive him whenever he makes a mistake redemption, but at the same time Emma, Rumple, and Henry should not be friends with Zelena at this point and time. I guess that goes back to what other posters have called and I totally agree the “hero club” I mean if you are in the “in” group than we forgive everything you do and if you are not well we could care less about you.
