ParticipantThat makes sense, to be sure. I still wish Rumple would say something like, “what if I fail…I did with Bae. Look what happened the last time I was a father.” It would make him look less Black-Hat and more like the Rumple we’ve known all along, clinging to power for a multitude of reasons like protecting his family.
Yep, total failure on the writer’s part instead we got one line “What if I fail” which we as viewers are supposed to remember that he failed last time (which he didn’t) actually didn’t Morpheus say he did not want Rumple to destroy this family like he did his last one. Does Belle feel that Rumple destroyed his last family? We tend to forget that Rumple was an excellent, loving father before he became the dark one and while very flawed afterwards his primary motivation has always been the love of his son and fixing his mistake. I again question whether Morpheus is actually their son or not, it seems like a very harsh thing for him to say and not even the theory that it was Belle’s insecurities and anger behind Morpheus’s thoughts would result in that she feels he destroyed his last family. Thinking about this actually makes me feel sorry for Rumple who has no idea why this kid hates him so much or what he did to destroy the relationship. Not excusing his behavior which is just hiding behind the power instead of facing the fear. It would be nice to have these thought processes while watching the show and not after discussing it at a forum.

ParticipantAlso, I’m sorta shocked that no one has brought up Neal. By the end, he and his father had made a sort of peace. Neal loved his father in spite of his father’s flaws and even came to understand some of Rumple’s fears and cowardice thanks to their time in Neverland and leaning about Pan. Someone needs to remind Rumple of this, that his other son saw the man behind the beast and moreover saw that his father was still his Papa even when he didn’t always like some of his actions. But that would mean bringing up Neal which, yknow, we mustn’t do.
Does Rumple recognize this, or does he see Bae’s death as a failure. I think they never really explored this but gave us hints that Rumple blames himself for Bae’s death. In the end of season 4 while they are in the alternate world the author tells Rumple that he is to blame for Bae’s death, and this is just brushed under the rug. Rumple has always taken full responsibility for his actions and has even gone farther and taken responsibility for consequences that were other people’s makings. I think this is the dynamic that has been in play since season 4 but never expressed on the show. The reason Rumple wanted power is because he feels that when he does not have power he looses the things that he loves. So while it may be wrong circular thinking I can see Rumple seeing the fact that he did not have power to stop Bae’s death as a failure to protect him and therefore his fault. This would come into play now, because Rumple does not want to fail again. He has no idea why this child hates him, so he has no idea how to fix it so he is relying on powerful magical items to try and help fix the problem. The problem he still has not seen is that the pursuit of power is the reason he lost Belle and maybe it is the reason he is going to loose his son’s love.

ParticipantI also loved this twist, and I can’t wait to see how they break the curse. I just hope it is not some kind of magical object. I think it would be appropriate for Emma to wake her parent’s up it would be a great call back to season 1 when she broke Henry’s sleeping curse.

ParticipantDespite speculation about Rumple’s intentions with the shears, it turns out that Dear Old Dark One Dad was going to use them on Morfetus as soon as he’s born, in order to change the baby’s perception of its father. 1) Does this…make sense? Tabula rasa is actually a philosophical concept we might need to tackle. 2) Can Rumple be a better man and have his son love him, flaws and all?
The question is why Morfetus has the perception anyway, I think it freaked Rumple out as did Belle automatically dumping him because of it. Do I think it was a good idea of course not. Do I think it should be possible even in the scope of OUAT, no. How can you be a clean slate when you are supposed to be a clean slate upon birth anyway? If he tried to use the shears right after the baby is born what will he accomplish, won’t he need to go to the point where he looses the child’s love and then use the shears. It didn’t make sense, but of course this whole concept never had.
As for your second question of course Rumple can be a better man and have his son’s love flaws in all. All parents have flaws and make mistakes. A child’s love is a lot like a parents love, unconditional. I think Belle was right on when she stated that he is basically choosing to act this way and can choose to be a good man. Rumple is acting out of fear, which is very in character for him, at heart Rumple has not changed much he is still the insecure coward who does not feel he is worthy of love.

ParticipantI think this episode was pretty good I would give it a 8/10
Liked:
I really liked the Snow and Charming were the focus of this episode, I thought their first unofficial meeting was well done
I thought the Hook/Emma moment was really good (first time I will ever say that) it was incredibly sweet
I liked Belle’s moment in the shop with Rumple, I think she told him the truth (without being verbally abusive) and I think he was being honest with her at least for a moment. That is the Rumple and Belle we all know and miss.
I liked that the two sides of the heart have come into play, and I think it is a great twist.
I know it was contrived but I actually liked that the sapling was where they first met (although I do have a problem them stating it was the first true love ever?)
Mixed:
Shady Blue, I kind of got the feeling that maybe she sent the wood cutter after Snow.
When did EQ put a sleeping curse on the hearts and how?
Zelena telling Belle about EQ and Rumple, I am glad someone is actually telling Belle the truth but I don’t like the reason she did it. Regina, Snow, Emma, etc. all knew this was going on and none of them bothered to tell her.
Rumple right after we see a glimpse of the old Rumple he goes back to revenge Rumple
Disliked:
OK, Belle you actually do have a right to be angry right now whether you guys are together right now or not, he should not be making out with the Evil Queen. You should care because I think you still love him and understand that this is not the road he should be taking. Really Rumple, “It’s trite to say it did not mean anything,” THEN DON”T DO IT!!!!! Talk about morality I had a problem with Belle dating Will season 4 and I totally have a problem with Rumple making out with anyone season 6. Marriage is supposed to be two people who have devoted themselves to each other, I don’t like the message this show is sending.
Rumple and Evil Queen. Just because the writers want us to believe there was chemistry between Regina and Rumple since early on doesn’t mean there was. Sorry guys never saw it and still don’t. They were ALWAYS teacher/student father/daughter. I think it is actually insulting of the writers to try and say otherwise and that we watchers just didn’t get it.

Participanteah maybe but does Rumple do the cutting or someone else? If Rumple does the cutting how does he even get there emotionally because so far he’s been the same guy as last year claiming to love his dagger as much as he loves Belle. So far he hasn’t shown that he wants to be free of it….
I agree, I think Rumple plans on using them on himself but to what effect I am not sure, maybe he could use them to “cleave” himself from the dagger and retain his powers. Either that or he plans on using them on baby Morpheus but I don’t know why he would do that either. I don’t think he was going to use them on Belle.
I also thought it was interesting that he told EQ that she shouldn’t take things that belong to him. Was he just saying because he wanted them they were his, or are they actually his? Were they at one time in his possession?

ParticipantI thought it was well done, I am glad we revisited Liam. Do you think he will continue to have a part in Hook’s story or will we now completely forget about him.
AKA
ParticipantI still don’t think that gels. Destiny has always been a force in this show but so has free will. Belle’s destiny isn’t a set line; we see it change from week to week each time she changes her mind about Rumple and his level of involvement in her and Morfetus’s life.
I agree, I don’t think whether she stays or does not stay withe Rumple is anything to do with her destiny. If it was, I would say it would be the opposite and that because at one time they were actual “true love” her destiny would lie with him. I think the only explanation is that EQ is talking out of her butt, and that Rumple was going to use the shears on himself. The question is why and what was he planning on doing.

ParticipantOverall it was an okay episode I would give it a 7/10
Liked:
That they gave us the rest of Liam’s story. I thought we would never hear from him again so I am glad that they brought it back up
That Hook thought about Henry first and told him to go
I like that they are showing the adjustment between Henry and Hook and that Henry does not just automatically accept him into the family, although that is all we will ever probably see.
Mixed:
Archie was saved. I think baby Robin liked him and I kind of liked the thought of Archie helping Zelena back into the good path. I could actually maybe ship them.
Disliked:
Belle: I hate how this show is totally leaving out the fact that Rumple is the father and does have some rights (or at least should) why does Belle get to decide whether he gets to part of the ultra-sound or not or whether he gets to be part of the babies life even. Maybe the reason baby Morpheus hates Rumple is because Belle has never let him be a part of his father’s life?
I HATE Rumple and the Evil Queen it makes me sick to my stomach even more than Cora ever did. I don’t see how they got from a father/daughter relationship or at very least teacher/student to THIS. Stop right now writers, it is actually making me not want to watch
Does Rumple want to use the shears on Belle or on himself? If he want to use them on Belle, how? That made no sense to me.
Emma stated that she understood why Hook did not dispose of the shears because she would have done the same thing. YOU did do the same thing, it was how Hook became the dark one and almost killed everyone in Storybrooke and why your family all went to the underworld to save him. Do either of these two ever learn from their mistakes?
I don’t care about Jasmine and Alladin’s relationship. I find it boring and his accent drives me nuts.

ParticipantYes, this. From last week, we’ve been all called upon to recoil in horror at Rumple’s high-handed antics. But Emma’s “I will watch the world burn just so that you live” or Hook’s current palming the shears for a rainy day are meant to be read as mildly misguided, but largely romantic gestures. Excuse me if I fail to swoon.
I wish we had a like button, because I AGREE COMPLETELY
