Well I had a response but then I ran into technical difficulties. ๐ฟ
I agree with your stating that if someone wants to pick apart a pairing there is always material. Everything can be interpreted for or against a ship.
I think it is great when someone explains another pairing in a logical argument. I often try to take off my shipper hat and analyze the situation.

AllThatGlittersParticipantI agree this thread should by no means bash Neal or SF. In fact, I think a majority of CaptainSwanners want to understand Neal and like him if he indeed the one she ends up with. I just think that some of us don’t understand some of the actions he has done. Maybe Season 3 will have more character development for him. When it comes to Emma and Hook, you can’t help but compare them to Emma and Neal because of Tallahassee. The writers set it up that we compare the two men in relation to Emma.

AllThatGlittersParticipantYou made a lot of great points MysteryKat! I think Neal needs to take responsibility for his actions towards Emma. I would respect him more if he did. I really hope the writers explore more of these characters and their relationships for Season 3. ๐

AllThatGlittersParticipantI’m sorry I’m going to ramble a bit:
I think that this show can go a bit soap opera like – look at the fact that the entire cast is practically related plus they had an “amnesia” storyline. That being said, I absolutely love the show.
I think Hook could go on the evil side only if it is for his gain. He is still a pretty selfish person, so I don’t see him changing overnight. I think it will take some time for him to be completely good.
As for Emma and Neal getting back together, I think it is possible. I think there needs to be closure. Their relationship was stunted because of the curse and I think if things play out they might find that the relationship worked for the people they were before but not for the people they have become.
I like what you said MysteryKat that it could be that Emma kind of focuses on the main story and less on her love life for awhile. It would be nice to see these guys try to fight for her. Right now, Hook has been the only one who has seemed to go towards that direction when he returned to help out in the last episode. As for Neal, I was hoping for a little more from his character. I was disappointed in the whole bar conversation with Emma and Neal in Manhattan and could probably go into more detail about that. Long story short: I was expecting more remorse from Neal. If it were me, no matter how much I loved a person and they did all that stuff to me and then on top of that did not act remorseful, I’d have a hard time forgiving him, let alone saying, “I love you”. I thought Emma was much stronger than that, IMO!
Emma’s character is all over the place this season and I’d like her to get back to Season 1 Emma with a little more love in her heart now that she has accepted Henry, Mary M. and Charming into her life. She is a strong woman and I’d hate to see her all of sudden change herself and become weak because of her love of Neal. For her, and this is true for anyone, she deserves to have someone absolutely adore her for who she is (ie her gift of knowing a lie) and someone who will fight for her. To me, Neal hasn’t done that so far like when makes fun of her lie detector skill sniffing out Tamara. Hook, on the other hand, respects Emma a lot and admires her strength. He seemed to be impressed that she could tell he was lying when they first met.
So now I’ve probably upset SF fans who probably check out this thread. I kept an open mind about Neal, but his character has not really redeemed in my eyes regarding what he did to Emma. Hook hasn’t had much screen time to develop the second half of this past season but when it comes to Emma he has always shown a glimpse of a different person. I think she brings out the good in him.

I certainly see that as well. These would be great moments for Hook to have some flashbacks of his time in NL and of possible and very likely interactions with Bae in NL. I would like these flashbacks to solidify his cause to help Emma find Henry.
I would love to see flashbacks with Bae in NL. There is so much more of Neverland I want to see through Hook’s perspective. I also wonder if Peter Pan is the other mortal enemy of Hook (Rumple being the other) and that Hook actually fought against him to try and get Bae back. It didn’t seem like Hook’s style to completely cower from Peter Pan. I think in terms of Emma, his experience will help guide her to get Henry. Her cause could end up being his cause.

These are great thoughts! You spoke for us in what we all want, IMO! We are a supportive team and will always stay respectful even if other type of shippers *cough* don’t…
Thanks! You guys are supportive! ๐

AllThatGlittersParticipantSo I’ve been thinking of what we saw this season in terms of CS and here is what I think could be a possibility for Season 3.
โข I can see Emma and Hook connecting and spending more time together while searching for Henry in Neverland.
โข I think it is possible that Hook may try to sway away from the good side again to be out for himself, but do the right thing in the end.
โข I think that it is being set up that Emma and Hook could find they are attracted to each other, but when Bae enters the story again, Hook might step away so that he can make it up to Bae and give him the family he always wanted. The show is about parallels, so I’m thinking that Hook already feels guilt that he took the family that Bae had by taking Milah away and didn’t think about the consequences. Maybe with Emma, he might think the right thing to do is to not ruin another family so he must push her away even though they have a connection.
โข Does my CS heart like this? Not exactly, but I think it would show that Hook has grown as a character. I think there is a lot of growing that his character needs to go through โ he needs to figure out what he wants to live for other than โhimselfโ.
โข I do realize that Emma could be with Nealfire for awhile but I am not opposed to that. Iโd rather they explore their relationship early on so that they kind of get closure.
โข I think if the show continually has the sexual tension between Hook and Emma for a couple of seasons (Jim and Pam from The Office, anyone?) it is usually worth the wait in the end.
These are just some thoughts. I really enjoy this thread, by the way. You all are very nice and respectful – just a great bunch of fellow shippers ๐

AllThatGlittersParticipantI clearly didn’t think this season was awful since I went from a casual viewer in Season 1 to full-fledged junkie by Season 2. I really enjoyed the first half of the season up to Queen of Hearts. I think what I enjoyed was that there was a good pace to the storylines, as the others have said. It is when it started back up from the Winter finale that I felt there was too much crammed into each episode. I have no doubt that it is difficult to fit everything they want to fit within a 40 min window, but they managed to do it quite well in Season 1 and the first half of Season 2 so I think they just tried to do too much. I am not a writer for the show, so I don’t know what goes on behind the scenes but I just hope they find that pacing again for Season 4. I will say I thought the last episode redeemed some of the lighter, fluff episodes we got this season.

Oooh. Ooooh. oooh. I concur! My money is on Henry, but I think Rumple will step in and save him, thus making Henry his undoing. My question is: if this plays out, will be Rumple’s shadow that is removed or the Dark One’s power?
Building on that, what if Rumple’s shadow is removed and the shadow then has the Dark One’s power which is controlled by Peter Pan?

we are headed towards a glorious season 3, hook and emma will be together on that ship for an indefinite amount of time ๐
Hook proved to Emma that he wouldn’t have left her like she did to him on the beanstalk
he came back for her
he no longer wants to die or be alone
he said that beans are magical and full of hope and possibility
and he handed Emma the bean
and happy feels ๐Very happy feels! ๐

AllThatGlittersParticipantI really didn’t take the episode as a detriment to CS happening. In fact, I am more hopeful since it is likely that there will be more scenes between them in Season 3. I did think it was interesting when Emma said something about her and Hook being similar (she acknowledged it!) when she was trying to convince him to use the bean for stopping the fail safe and save Regina. I think this episode showed that Hook has finally given up on his revenge and is moving forward. He doesn't seem to know what he wants yet. I think the episode really showed that he has the capacity to love (aside from Milah) or at least care about someone other than himself. I also think that because Neal is supposedly “dead”, it could possibly bring Emma and Hook closer.
