I’m perplexed as to why you view pre-Dark One Rumpel as bad? What did he do that was so terrible? Deserting a ruthless, and by all accounts, useless war does not count as “bad” in my book. Rumpel was probably recruited as a young child, much like how Bae was. So, being a child in a bloody war would have been unbelievably torturous for him. So, the fact that he ran away doesn’t really mean that he’s bad. A coward? Maybe. But “bad?” Definitely not.

Even though he was consumed with its evil power, he still was able to find a place in his heart for Belle. Regina, on the other hand, hasn’t shown any emotion or capacoty to love after she became evil. We thouht we saw a little emotion in her in “Fruit of a Poisonous Tree,” but then that turned out to be a trick. We thought we saw it a little bit in “The Thing You Love Most,” but then that turned out to be a trick when she slaughtered her own father in cold blood. Again, we thought we saw it in “Hat Trick,” but that was a red herring too because we all know what Regina eventually ends up doing to her father: Murder.
At least after he became the Dark One, Rumpel didn’t murder anyone he loved. Regina, on the other hand, repeatedly caused harm to those she claimed to love the most. Her father, the Genie…
Big difference.

Ok guys, I think I love August. It just hit me. I don’t where it came from, but there you go.
Sweet Jesus, I hope Mr. Gold doesn’t end up killing him. 😯 😯 😯
OMG!!! ME TOO!!! I was afraid to say it out loud though! 😆 But I can’t help it…I love August. Hopefully, he’ll make it past the season finale. And even though I want August to be Rumpel’s son, I fear for his survival rate if it’s actually true. Rumpel’s loved ones always seem to suffer a tragic ending. 😥
an empty heartParticipantWow! I din’t noticed how much August and Bae looked alike until now. Now I’m going to be disappointed if August isn’t Bae. 😆
an empty heartParticipantAww! Belle’s an amazing character. Even though we’ve only seen a few glimpses of her, I’m looking fforward to her future character development. I can’t wait to see what role she plays in the finale. It’ll probably go something like this:
Mr. Gold betrays Regina and victory seems to be just within his grasp, until BAM!!! Regina dangles his precious Belle in front of him. Belle, along with his son, is his only weakness, and I’m just waiting for Regina to use that to her advantage. It’s goin to happen, the only question is when?
Poor Rumps. 😥

I’m not even sure anyone else even knows Belle is down there. I know Regina used a code or something to get down there but didn’t she go through a door marked “Exit”? I had the feeling only the nurse and the weird guy cleaning the floor work down there so I don’t think even the other hospital employees know about it. So it does seem like an extension of Regina’s dungeons.
The Dungeons? I didn’t even consider that as a possibility. That’s would be very interesting. However, Regina needs to be very watchful of the nurse and the janitor who know about Belle. There’s always the possibility that they could be spies or looking for a way to escape themselves.

I don’t think Regina would need to brainwash Belle into hating Gold. What he did to her was enough for her to not go back to him. I wouldn’t go back to a guy who acted like. He is too erratic and completely flipped out and even though he felt sorry about it afterwards i really think he would do it again. I mean look at what he did to Belle’s father.
I disagree. I think Belle still had feelings for Rumpel when she left his castle. When we see her in the bar in “Dreamy,” she seemed to be genuinely heartbroken and sad about what happened to between her and Rumpel. I honestly think if Rumpel would have given to her and accepted her love, she would have stayed with him willingly, despite everything that happened between them.
an empty heartParticipantI feel the same way as some of you. Belle has only been in 2 episodes, but she’s already becoming one of my favorite female characters. I really like Emilie de Raven as an actress and Belle was always my favorite Disney princess, so I couldn’t myself. 😆 I can’t wait to see how Mr. Gold handles having Belle back in his life (for better or worse).
And as far as the popularity of Rumpel and Belle, Snow White and Charming are definitely the most popular pairing, but Rumpel and Belle are very close behind. But then again, Snow and Charming had since the beginning of the season to build their fanbase. So the fact that Rumbelle has such a large fanbase after only a month and half really speaks volumes. As someone already stated, I think part of the reason why so many people love Rumpel and Belle is because their love story came as such a shock. No one really expected to see Rumpel actually fall in love and let his guard down. So, when we finally got to see that, many of us fell in love.
an empty heartParticipantSorry if my posts sounds like mindless fangirl rambling. I’m not sure if this is an appreciation thread or a character duscussion thread. But here it goes!
I think Mr. Gold/Rumpelstiltskin is the deepest and most complex character on the show. The show’s characterization of him went from a malicious psychotic mad man, to a deeply flawed, sympathetic and almost tragic romatic figure. His character-centric episodes (Desperate Souls and Skin Deep) have been my favorite episodes so far. They’re always dark and tragic, with a hint of romance and compassion. To me, Rumpelstiltskin is the epitome of the tragic romantic figure. A man who started out as a simple and decent man, but succumbed to powerful temptation which ultimately destroyed him.
