Reviews, theories, and talk about ABC's Once Upon a Time TV show
As much as I would LOVE this to be the case – I don’t think it works.
Let me address each thing you bring up:
1.) Regina was lying about everything that happened after Belle left the dark castle. The episode writer Jane Espenson has clearly stated this in both interviews and tweets. If nothing else, we know that Belle didn’t die – she’s alive in Storybrooke – so Regina was clearly lying about that, which means she was lying about the scourges/suicide as well. Even if Espenson hadn’t dispelled the validity of Regina’s statement – why would she only partially tell the truth (i.e that Belle was in a tower, but not dead…?) Plus, in “Dreamy” – Belle is alive and well, and even enjoying a pint at the local pub. To be fair, this could have been while she was going from the Dark Castle back home, but she had enough time to get a haircut, so one would assume she was at least moderately settled in somewhere…and not locked up in a tower…
2.) As much as I would love to see this too, this would contradict the timeline. 1.) Rumple believes Belle is dead. 2.) We know that Sleeping Beauty was woken up long before the dark curse was enacted. (In “The Thing You Love The Most” when Regina goes to see Maleficient she comments that it must have been hard watching Sleeping Beauty wake up, and her curse be broken. Maleficient responds that she “got over it” – to me implying that quite a bit of time had gone by.) Rumple could not both believe Belle to be dead, and have woken her up…
3.) Side note – Sleeping Beauty was never kept in Maleficient’s castle…
4.) Might tie in with the psych ward – I’ll give you that 🙂
5.) Don’t know if it would tie in with the spindle – that was more Rumple’s thing…, but would tie in with the name
