ParticipantI’m glad we know more now about Rumpel’s dislike for fairies. They, or more precisely the Blue Fairy, were the cause of Bae’s disappearance. Since then, everything Rumpel has done was to create the curse that he hopes will reunite his son. Every deal he’s made was meant to benefit him for that purpose. There are ingredients he needed, other people had them, if someone wanted his help, the ingredient was the price. Rumpel didn’t target Ella’s fairy godmother for spite. The king came to Rumpel for another favor. The cost was the fairy’s magic wand. Though, I’m sure Rumpel felt no regret for killing the fairy, he probably could have found another way to get what he was after. Unless, what he wanted all along was to make a deal with Ella and have her price be her firstborn child. Again, every price for Rumpel’s help is a step toward’s creating the curse. I don’t know what a child would do for that unless Rumpel was still trying to figure out how to bottle true love and a child is usually a symbol of that.

ParticipantPersonally, I hope that’s not the case. I could understand if it was all like Kathryn’s case and everyone wanted to go to school and it’s the nearest educational center. But, IMHO, it’s lazy writing to have everyone want to go to the same place. Ah, well, I can only hope there is some importance to Boston. 😉

I think the writers only use Boston as a reference because it’s easier for someone from outside the US – like myself! – to recognize it. Not that people don’t know anywhere else in the US, but it makes it simpler, you know…
Also, I believe only August, Emma and Henry have been somewhere else, the rest can’t leave SB, isn’t ?
That could be why the writers always use Boston, but there’s also New York City, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, and other close by cities. Here’s something I just realized: Emma was living in Boston at the time Henry left Storybrooke to find her. Could the other SB residents be wanting to go there because they subconsciously want to be near the “savior” and so they think it’s a safe place?

Didn’t Regina say that she pulled Jefferson into fairytale land suggesting that it may have not been all of the other realms that were pulled in, but just those from fairytale land who were elsewhere or even just those that Regina chose to pull in.
Could Jefferson have been with his daughter Grace in a ALICE TIME LINE… his clothing looked very VICTORIAN in style.. the great cape he wore seemed more from Regency / Victorian styling.
Rumble looks to be more Dark Ages…. feudal era… between 1200 – 1400s time frame according to the costumes.
Regina looks more 1700s style of clothing.
Could there have been a mixture of time eras in FTL since fairy tales are written / created in different eras?

.
That is a very interesting point about their clothing. In Deperate Souls they all looked like they dressed in the Dark Ages. While towards the enacting of the curse looks more later.
Well, in the Ch 13 featurette, Robert Carlyle states that hundreds of years have gone by since Rumple lost Bae. But whether that refers to that particular character, all of FTL, or the difference between FTL and SB is unknown. But it could be an explanation for all the different looks.

I love Into the Woods. I have always wanted to see it on Broadway. Is it playing or supposed to be playing?
“Into the Woods” will be playing July 23 to August 25 at Delacorte Theatre in Central Park.

ParticipantSo maybe the whole of the EF was transported to the real world and it’s all under an illusion just like peoples’ memories? That would be a possible theory. I’d hate to think nothing was transported and it’s all an illusion but still in the EF.
However, several characters have mentioned wanting to leave SB and go to Boston…but that’s the only place they want to go. SB is in Maine, so why not Augusta? Or any other New England city? Or even Nova Scotia?
Also, if the EF is just one realm of the FTL, were others affected and transported too? Are they in SB or are they in neighboring communities? In SB, we’ve mainly seen the Perrault/Grimm fairy tales (with the exception of Pinocchio). Could there be ‘sister towns’ to SB, involving Anderson tales, Agrabah, Wonderland, etc?
Also, something else to consider – with the exception of Jefferson who apparently is a resident of the EF who goes to Wonderland, one character is from elsewhere and that’s the Genie who becomes trapped in the mirror and who’s from Agrabah. Other possible non-native EF residents would be Pinocchio, Gepetto, and Jiminy as “Pinocchio” is not a classic fairy tale. The whale may have brought Pinocchio and Gepetto to EF with Jiminy following. Just a thought.

This curse seems to have some customization to it == a “designer” curse
You could definitely say that. But it can also be ‘edited’ once put together. Rumpel’s the one who made the curse in the first place. Then he had Regina (or himself once Regina agreed) add in the provisions regarding his position in the new world. However, Maleficent also held the Dark Curse for a time when Regina traded it for the sleeping potion. Seeing as how the curse is malleable, it now makes me wonder if Maleficent made any adjustments to it as well.

Kinda amusing that OuaT calls Snow’s prince Prince Charming….Prince Charming is actually Cinderella’s prince! Snow White’s prince in the Disney movie does not have a name!
Looked this up in Wikipedia and it’s true. Prince Charming is typically the generic, catchall name for most princes in fairy tales. And I got a kick out reading how the stock character of ‘Prince Charming’ is described:
“These characters are often handsome and romantic, a foil to the heroine, and are seldom deeply characterized, or even distinguishable from other such men who marry the heroine.
In many variants, they can be viewed as rewards for the heroine rather than characters.” 😆
And yes, I’ve seen Into the Woods. I found it both hilarious and endearing.
As far as character names, Disney named their EQ Grimhilde, though it’s never mentioned and the Huntsman’s name is Humbert which is Graham’s last name as seen in the belongings Emma was given.
Oh, and while Disney uses Maleficent as the name of the evil fairy in Sleeping Beauty, the ballet uses Carabosse.

ParticipantGood catch. Lasagne does take awhile to make. Of course, it was well past dark by the time David left compared to when he helped Regina with the groceries.
