Hmmm, I feel a little dumb now as I made a somewhat similar topic without knowing about this one LOL. Well one thing I love that has a lot of similarities to OUAT is the comic book series Fables. It has kind of the same basic premise as OUAT, but handled in different ways. I could say the same about Disney’s Enchanted, which will be in my list. I could never limit myself to just 10, unless I do a separate 10 for movies and TV shows. Even doing that, I know I’ll be leaving out a lot of stuff I love. Oh well, here goes…
1. Angel
2. Buffy the Vampire Slayer – Angel and Buffy are in my top spots for a reason, but the rest of these are in no particular order.
3. Supernatural
4. Game of Thrones
5. Pushing Daisies
6. Highlander
7. Disney’s Gargoyles – Lot of flashbacks to medieval times on this show and the show also drew many elements from Arthurian legends, Norse mythology, and even magical characters from Shakespeare like Puck, the witches from Macbeth, etc. This show was amazing.
8. Justice League Unlimited – I’m including this because the DC universe is home to many fantasy elements like Greek mythology, magic, and Arthurian mythology. Even nature itself is alive and mystical in the DC universe with ancient beings representing animals, plants, and decay as the three elements of life on our planet. I’m also a bit of a DC fanboy, especially when it comes to Batman
9. Avatar: The Last Airbender – I just started watching this recently and really enjoy it. I’m about four episodes in so far
10. Hercules/Xena – Personally, I don’t think these shows have stood the test of time, but I used to be a huge fan (I was a bit of a Greek mythology nerd at the time). I was a HUGE Callisto fan. I guess I sort of like bad girls in my TV. I’m a big Faith fan from Buffy as well, and I love Regina from UOATNeed more attention:
Dead Like Me
WonderfallsMovies
1. The Princess Bride
2. Stardust
3. Disney’s Enchanted
4. Willow
5. The Lord of the Rings: Trilogy
6. Scott Pilgrim vs. the World – A magical fantasy world, filtered through the lens of video game culture
7. Cabin in the Woods – I swear, this movie’s entire premise would be right at home on Whedon’s Angel. For those of you who are fans of the show and have seen the movie, just think ofWolfram & Hart creating a facility like that, and imagine the ancient gods in Cabin in the Woods as being similar to a character like Illyria.
8. Army of Darkness (I love Evil Dead 2 as well, probably even more so, but it’s not as fantasy oriented)
9. Hellboy 2
10. Pirates of the CaribbeanNeeds more Attention: Hmmm, maybe….
The Crow
From Dusk til Dawn – For Vampire buffsThose lists leave off a ton of stuff that I love that I consider Sci Fi rather than fantasy. I think Star Wars is Sci Fi too, but that’s just my opinion. I also could do a top 10 list of just Disney shows and movies alone that I have enjoyed over the years. It’s hard to cram all the things I love into small lists
On a related note, some fantasy games I love
Ico
Shadow of the Colossus
Journey
Kingdom Hearts (for the Disney fan in all of us)
Okami
Brutal Legend
The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King – PS2/Xbox
Final Fantasy 6
Buffy the Vampire Slayer – On the original Xbox
Prince of Persia: Sands of Time
Prince of Persia (2008)[adrotate group="5"]arkham258ParticipantThe Snow/Charming theme song – The lyrics kind of fit, even going back to season 1 when they didn’t know who they were. Also, you can replace every instance of, “I’ll Reach You” in this song with “I will always find you”
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D0C1WvC6-XQ
“Remember when you walked out into the rain
The railroad and the sky were calling your name
Can you hear them whisper:
“Come and get lost with us”
You’ve been chasing shadows in your hometown
You searched for answers that refused ever to be found
So you compromised and found a new horizon
Ever since you left you’re always on my mindSo here’s to you if you care to listen
Here’s to you, let me cross the distanceEven if you’re not here
I’ll reach you, I’ll reach you
Even though you’re away, I’m near
We’ll forgive and forget
I’ll reach youSeven years and seven days you’ve been gone
Seven years of changing faith and opinion
Would you have recognized me
If you walked beside me?
I would keep on wating
It’s been to longHere’s to you if you care to listen
Here’s to you, let me cross the distanceEven if you’re not here
I’ll reach you, I’ll reach you
Even though you’re away, I’m near
We’ll forgive and forget
I’ll reach youEven if you’re not here
I’ll reach you, I’ll reach you
Even though you’re away, I’m near
We’ll forgive and forget
I’ll reach youI’ll reach you…”
arkham258ParticipantI don’t know why some guys in this day and age are still against romance in their stories. I like it if it’s done well. I think a lot of guys unfortunately just think of really badly done romantic comedies on TV or in movie theaters and assume anything with a love story in it is the same.
What’s funny is that so many action movies are based around a guy wanting to save his girl or avenge her, meaning that the core of all those male oriented action movies is a love story. You have to love irony
I’ll admit though, I’m a softie. I watched Disney’s Paperman today and found it rather touching. It’s a short, 7 minute movie about a little magic bringing a guy and girl together and I thought it was really well done and even a little funny. It apparently won an oscar too.
arkham258ParticipantI don’t think I can post a youtube link to it due to some of the language, but the lyrics and story behind Diamond Head’s Am I Evil fits Regina in a couple of ways, particularly after this latest episode
Here’s a few safe lyrics I’ll post though
“My mother was a witch…
As I watched my Mother die, I lost my head
Revenge now I sought…Make them pay the price
Am I evil? Yes I am”
arkham258ParticipantSorry to bring up an old topic, but this reminds me of how surprised I always am by the large number of Supernatural fans that are women. I mean, I get that it stars two hot dudes, but beyond that it seems so much like a guy show. Muscle cars, classic rock, horror movie elements, guys shooting and killing stuff every episode, male oriented humor, mostly male characters, and lots of references to guy oriented geeky hobbies, there is so much testosterone in the show that I always find it interesting that it never manages to turn off female viewers. I guess it’s a testament to the quality of the show that it draws in all types of fans. Personally, I really like that. It’s cool to know than any show that I like doesn’t have a purely one sided audience.
And yeah, I also bumped the topic because I am a dude and I love Once Upon a Time

But Regina has no one, not a single person to care for her.
This is true, and really sad. They’ll have to have someone else join TeamRegina at some point, because I suspect she’s gonna go so dark now that she won’t be able to haul herself out of it. Wonder who will be the one to eventually help her?
Regina desperately needs a new Daniel, or a male version of Belle. Henry is, in a sense, lost to her and has been since the day Emma came to Storybrooke. She needs someone who can focus all his love on her and isn’t pulled between her and someone else. I really believe that it’s a matter of time before we see this happen on the show, assuming Regina doesn’t get killed off first (I really don’t want to see that happen)
As for Mr. Gold, he hasn’t changed AT ALL in my eyes. He loves Belle and his son, but is still a selfish, self centered trouble maker and still has a lot of wrath and vindictiveness in him. If you look at Regina before Cora framed her, she was doing much better than Mr. Gold with the redemption thing. She was playing nice, keeping to herself, and not trying to cause trouble. Mr. Gold on the other hand, is always trying to stir up a word I won’t use on this forum. He tried to get Regina to kill Emma and Snow in the portal, he convinces Snow to use the candle, he turned a guy into a mouse not that long ago, and look at the anger he displayed towards Henry very recently
I don’t fully trust Gold or believe in him even after his heart felt speech to Belle. He is at the heart of EVERY SINGLE BAD THING THAT HAS EVER HAPPENED ON THIS SHOW. He is the little devil on everyone’s shoulder and I honestly think Regina has a better shot at redemption than he does, but I hope to be proven wrong. I WANT to see him become a better man, but he keeps doing things on this show that make me feel that it can’t happen. I especially get mad at him in all his scenes with Regina, because he ALWAYS pushes her towards her darker instincts. He’s like an enabler for a person trying to stop using drugs.
arkham258ParticipantThe keeper of Regina’s heart, figuratively speaking, as I’d love to sweep her off her feet and try and bring her back to the light side the way Belle is trying to do with Rumpel. I heart that crazy, messed up, evil queen so much 😆 I’m a Pisces, and the Regina character seems like my perfect, crazy Scorpio match 😆
And I also got dibs on the powerful, magic amplifying and magic absorbing sword (i.e. Gourry Gabriev’s light sword) that I hope we see someday on the show, which I’d keep in a safe place for my pal David should he ever need it as it’d be something too dangerous to use in just any old situation.

I have to say, they do an amazing job casting this show. Even my 11 year old son was commenting on what a good job Rose McGowan did playing young Cora – that’s not something he usually comments on (except with Baylee Madison) and I don’t think it was the cleavage 😕 .
She did a fantastic job. I thought she did a great job of portraying enough of what Barbara Hershey would have been like at that age without trying to “act” like Barbara Hershey (if that makes sense). I also thought she and RC had the PERFECT blend of dark chemistry (or lack of chemistry??) or maybe lustful chemistry??? I don’t know what exactly to call what it was that they had 😯 . But, um, they did it and did it well. It wasn’t the same chemistry like Belle and Rumple – it was creepy, morbid, oh-my-gosh-this-is-so-uncomfortable-I-can-hardly-watch-it-without-making-a-weird-face-chemistry.
Under normal circumstances I would happily volunteer to play the part of one of Rumple’s long lost loves. Especially after reading through the script and realizing that a good part of his facial make up will be rubbed away during the “nuzzling” scenes. However after watching the spinning wheel seduction scene, I can safely say that I have found the one scene that is even too sick and twisted for me. Ripping someone’s throat out and stomping on their veins isn’t my idea of whispered sweet nothing’s in my ear 🙁 . Kudos to Rose McGowan for pulling off sinister and psychotic while looking as beautiful as always!!!
Cora and Rumpel were basically the goth, emo couple, which makes ripping someone’s throat out the perfect things to tell your partner LOL. Seriously, the goth kids from South Park would have loved those two LOL
I think it’s very interesting how people compare and contrast Rose’s performance as Cora to that other girl’s portrayal of young Snow. It’s two completely different acting styles. That little kid basically tries to copy Snow perfectly, which seems kind of method. Rose on the other hand, just puts her own spin on things and gave us “her” Cora.

Crazy thing I just noticed. There’s a huge parallel between what happened in QoH and The Miller’s Daughter.
Regina attempted to basically kill Snow & Emma at the well and then undid it at the last second to appease Henry. How weird is it that Snow essentially did the same thing to Cora in this episode but actually succeeded? (or failed at arriving in time to undo it, whichever you prefer)
What are the odds that Regina would do the right thing and Snow the wrong thing in a similar circumstance? And what does that mean for their future interactions?
I expressed basically the same idea in the favorite/least favorite moments thread. In retrospect, it’s amazing that corrupt Regina avoided doing Rumpel’s bidding but the pure hearted Snow did not. Whose actions in those two scenarios are befitting of the morals that Snow’s mother taught her?
I see a lot of parallels between Snow and Regina. They are mirrors of each other in a lot of ways, from the huge influence their mothers have had on them, to their rebellious attitudes, to the way Rumpel is so easily able to manipulate the both of them, to Snow’s very Regina-like manipulation of Regina herself last episode. It’s interesting how we associate Snow with white, while Regina’s color scheme usually has a lot of black. Regina is like a dark version of Snow White and is very much an example of what Snow could be like if she didn’t have all the things that Regina was deprived of in her life, like a loving mother and a good man (since Regina’s love was murdered). Also, consider how bratty young Snow was in that episode when we first see her mother. Imagine how Cora would have raised a girl like that and it’s not hard to see Snow being just like Regina, if not much worse.
Since I mentioned colors in that last paragraph, I like that Regina’s office has only black and white colors. Does that symbolize good and evil always at war within her…with evil usually winning out. Or is that spartan use of color just a way to show Regina’s very pragmatic, cold, and efficient approach to life. Maybe both?
arkham258ParticipantI have to say, Bae certainly acted like Peter Pan this last episode. Comfortable with a sword, not even remotely afraid of Cora and Regina, and even showing a little cockiness. It’s certainly the way that I view Peter Pan from the movies and cartoons I’ve seen him in. His personality fits
