@Sylph: Ha, my dad & I tend to compete with each other a lot so we dismiss each other’s theories when it comes to the show. Although, we both concede that the most interesting character is Mr. Gold. So at least we agree on some things. I won’t lie, I like to boast when I’m right & I’m prone to do it online too, so fair warning. Other than that though, I’d like to say I have a pretty open mind with other peoples theories. But of course, I’d be lying if I didn’t say I liked my own the best.
But indulgence is key & I’m more than happy to indulge you and everyone else.
( Even if I won’t / don’t always agree with the logic behind some of these theories or the adamant want that some people display in regards to hoping/wishing something isn’t so. )[adrotate group="5"]cruel_fortunaParticipant@Dorothy: Should the sphinx ever come across the Cheshire cat, they’d no doubt be the best of friends.
cruel_fortunaParticipant@Sylph: I adore Yeats, Tennyson is a close second. Oddly enough no. My ancestry is Norwegian & a hefty helping of Cherokee. I’m sure my pale complexion that is prone to burning & my blue eyes are probably results of the Norwegian bit.
Here comes the part where you retract any respect you might have had for me.
I love all those movies you mentioned; except for Wrath of the Titans – be it the original or the remake. Although, to be fair, I think that’s just my love of fantasy films overriding the analytical/literary side of my brain. I know they took great liberties with all those movies & the mythology is all messed up but darn it all if I don’t swoon any time Loki or Hector shows up on my television screen.( I take it this means you hated the Mummy movies too, since they totally messed with Imhotep’s real-life counterpart & the bit about renaming Nefertiti to Nefertiri )
cruel_fortunaParticipant@Kisses: The donkey scene never really scared me as a child but then again, that’s probably because I’d already been traumatized by pink elephants on parade. Therein, the donkey scene didn’t serve as any judging tool in regards to the movie. It did make for an interesting tongue-in cheek turned reality though. Though, perhaps you don’t like the story because it’s a cautionary tale which is far too implausible to begin within and too easily does away with common sense.
In regards to August though, I just see too many similarities for him to be Pinocchio, though I’ll happily eat my words when/if proven wrong.
cruel_fortunaParticipant@Kisses: You don’t care for the original fairy tale or the Disney version?
Because – after reading the synopsis for the next ep. where there is mention of a donkey driver. That reminds me of when in the Disney version, where Pinocchio is turned into a donkey when he visits 'pleasure island'. It's actually a rather disturbing scene.cruel_fortunaParticipant@Sylph: I’ve learned to take what the character’s say with a grain of salt.
Although to be fair, personally I’ve had a good track record when it comes to guessing who is who.
Or at least, better than my dad’s who watches the show with me.
c :cruel_fortunaParticipantIt probably helps that I’m going through and reading parts of the Ulster Cycle; in particular the part about the Tuatha Dé Danann, back before they were associated with being faeries. So, given the fact that Greek myth has worked it’s way into the show, would you like seeing more mythology explored, perhaps seeing a sylph in Fairytale Land would be nice?
Yes, the cruel part is from the song ‘Within You’ where he says, “your eyes can be so cruel, just as I can be so cruel.” But it also ties into the saying of ‘fate is a cruel mistress.’
cruel_fortunaParticipantThe whole mention of shin splints & the proximity to trees just strengthens my resolve in thinking he’s Pinocchio. What’s more, his being hurt that Emma would call him a liar reminds me of a quote, & we all know how August likes to use his knowledge of the literary. If I were him, I would have retorted & said ” a closed mind is like a closed book; just a block of wood.”
& seeing as he keeps bringing up literature ( & his being an author ) part of me thinks that he may have been either hiding or boarded up in the library before Emma came to town. I think someone had suggested he could have been the town librarian, although I forget who. When in effect, there is the possibility he is both Pinocchio & the SB librarian.
cruel_fortunaParticipantWelcome to the forums, always good to meet a fellow Rumple/Gold lover, although, I don’t believe I’ve run into anyone who dislikes him yet.
In relation to your username – I have a question.
Is the ‘sylph’ in question in relation to the air elementals from Irish folklore?
Just curious.cruel_fortunaParticipantI’m of the persuasion that that’s exactly what Gold was referencing.
Now the question is, where has he been hiding her this whole week? It’s implied when she’s found that she’s disoriented, did Gold have some of that potion leftover that helps a person forget & if so, did he give said potion to Kathryn?
