This is a long-shot but it’s my theory for why Rumple might be so invested in both Snow & Charming’s future.
If you look back to episode 14: “Dreamy” Belle says the following when it comes to true love, “Love is hope. It Fuels our Dreams.”
Based on the assumption that being in love is like being in a dream, I came up with the following.
Dreams = Sleep = Sleep could be attributed to a piece of the Dark Curse that Rumple told the Queen how to enact. It would carry over in Storybrooke that sleep ( like Snow being in an enchanted sleep that only true love’s kiss could break ) would be translated as the time never moving forward in Storybrooke. This would also explain to a degree why Rumple is so invested in both of their future’s.
The Evil Queen enacted the curse because of her hatred for Snow White.Rumple needs both Snow ( MM ) , Emma, Regina ( Evil Queen ) to forgive each other & that will break the curse.
…. & I totally went off topic.
I might delete this post & just create a new topic for it.
Tell me if I should.[adrotate group="5"]cruel_fortunaParticipantI’m from the Northwest corner of Arkansas ( in the United States ).
I actually go to school/college in the same town where the first Wal*Mart store was.
So where I live is overrun with Walmarts but we get tons of funding for our sports, arts programs, ect from the Waltons, as well as from the Tyson family.c :
cruel_fortunaParticipantThe fairies still have to pay for their magic. They are only given so much fairy dust per year, which means they can’t be wasteful with it. It’s also my belief that leaders of the fairies & the dwarves have a sort of quid-pro-quo deal in place. The head dwarf promises to spread propaganda about how dwarves don’t [can’t] fall in love to prevent the other dwarves from wanting to leave the mines.
I mean, isn’t it odd that only ‘Grumpy’ seemed to question their ideas on work. “And we like it?” to which the lead dwarf responds, “We love it! We even whistle while we do it.”
Seems interesting also that the Blue Fairy was so adamant about Dreamy/Grumpy leaving Nova otherwise she’s lose her wings; which I think is/was a lie. I mean, in the start of the episode it was hinted that a dwarf never changes; yet Dreamy turns to Grumpy, proving his own theory that he was different. Nova could have been the exception too, if that whole losing her wings bit was true; which like I said, I doubt.
But the end and short of it would be this.
Yes, fairies get their magic from the fairy dust & the price they pay is that they act as overlords of sorts to the dwarves. As Nightreader said, the price is paid with work.
cruel_fortunaParticipantI loved how Robert teased an upcoming line in a future episode, where he says something about a gag order & says “I like the image.” I had to pause at that part because I was laughing so hard. I’m also on board with what Raven said about the development about the character, that part was rather interesting. I looked up some Commedia dell’arte performances afterwards & heh, they really are rather fluid with their motions & more than a little flamboyant. But even though they were speaking Italian the way they carried themselves was fun/funny.
Lana’s fangirls in the front row were rather adorable too. I know they gave her a shirt and sort of want one now too.
cruel_fortunaParticipantMy guess is that Rumple is referring to the Blue Fairy. Seeing as Cinderella gave him a quill which she had enchanted that bound his magic. Effectively leading to Thomas’ disappearance, as well as Rumple’s imprisonment in the cave-cell that the dwarves had fashioned for him to ensure his magic would still be moot inside his cell. So that’s probably part of the history he’s referring to. It also wouldn’t surprise me if he hadn’t run into at least one fairy, that wasn’t too keen on him granting ‘wishes’ – “for a price”. When that would be encroaching on the fairy’s use of fairy dust and it would also mean they would be ‘obsolete’, as it were. Since from what I gather fairy dust only helps you achieve your dreams under your own power and Rumple’s deals while costly, do tend to be enacted at a much faster pace.
cruel_fortunaParticipantI thought ‘Peter Pan’ wasn’t in the public domain – & ABC/Disney would have to pay the copyright fees to be able to use any likeness of the character – & so they haven’t bothered with using any of the characters from the novel. I’m not saying they won’t use Peter Pan – but at this point in time, I don’t see Disney shelling out the big bucks to be able to use the character’s likeness. They used to own the rights – back when they produced the animated movie but I’m pretty sure they let the rights go & they returned to the estate / holders of J. M. Barrie’s copyrights.
( Long story short – I don’t think we’ll be seeing Peter Pan until season 2 and rather late in the season at that. ) / Just my two cents.
cruel_fortunaParticipantI read it when I was around ten. I had asked for a book of Greek mythology for my birthday & my mom got me that – plus a book of World Folklore & Fairy Tales. I also saw the Faerie Tale Theater episode revolving around the story, as well as a 2002 film which I’ve never again seen on television. But I found the trailer for it. ( Looking back – I see why I watched it. I obviously thought the animation style was similar to ‘The Swan Princess; which I still love the original – why they needed to make sequels for it – I’ll never know. )
I’m torn between The Magic Flute & Swan Lake – both are such great stories. ( The Magic Flute has a more interesting plot though. ) Man – that fairy tale always creeps me out – just cause rats – the bubonic plague – just . . ick.
cruel_fortunaParticipant@ obisgirl ;; In the original telling of ‘The Little Mermaid’ – the mermaid doesn’t get her prince either. He falls in love with someone else & I’m pretty sure the mermaid in her grief plunges herself off a cliff into the ocean & drowns ( I’m not sure – point being, in her grief – she commits suicide. ) Not exactly a happily ever after.
// As for my own favorite fairy tale – it would probably have to be a tie between Beauty & the Beast & The Princess & the Pea.
Apparently the whole motif of seeing what lies beyond the outer appearance is something I find very appealing in fairy tales – which why I love Beauty & the Beast. Princess & the Pea on the other hand – is rather amusing in the way it’s written – which is why I love it. The double-meanings are rather hilarious; in my opinion.
( I also have a fond spot for ‘Alice in Wonderland’ , ‘The Wizard of Oz’ & ‘The Magic Flute’ – but those are all either well known children books; or in the case of ‘The Magic Flute’ – an opera. So it doesn’t really fit. )
