YOU can tell STORYBROOKE is not in the real world because I have never seen a town counsel who would have voted and agreed to allow the mayor to buy land without a major discussion and debate.
NonnieAnd I’ve never seen a town council meeting that had such a big turnout! I live in a city of 2 million people, and we’re lucky if 5 show up for city council meetings–and that’s if they’re talking about something controversial.

ParticipantI’m wondering if there’s some connection between Rumple’s ability to spin gold and Midas’ curse.

For me he is exceptional as an over the top Rumple and convincing while conveying emotions.
One of the most emotionally powerful moments in the series, to me, is the moment in “Skin Deep” right after Belle walks out. Rumple is standing alone in the dungeon, the camera moves in and RC makes two tiny gestures: a muscle in his cheek twitches twice, and then he slowly closes his eyes. The eloquence of this moment is stunning. The range of his performance, from the cabinet-smashing to this moment, amazes me. As a film history major, I studied hundreds of films, and more often than not I’ve felt that acting lost a poignant subtlety when sound was introduced to film, but it’s performances like this that change my mind.
I would encourage anyone who enjoyed this moment to see Marilyn Hotchkiss’ Ballroom Dancing and Charm School, where RC plays a character on the opposite end of the spectrum from Rumple.
And by the way, I think over-the-top is exactly how Rumple should be played. It’s part of his Dark One act, scares people a bit, throws them off-kilter; it gives Rumple an advantage in his deal-making and keeps people at a distance. Watch how he is with Snow: much quieter, more genuine. It makes him vulnerable, but he trusts her not to take advantage of that, and he comes to trust Charming in the same way. He vowed he would love no one else until he found Bae, but Snow and Charming are winning him over.

ParticipantI had one last night: Belle and Rumple went to Jefferson and thanked him for making their reunion possible. Word spread around Storybrooke, and a crowd gathered in the street outside the pawnshop, and a chant went out: “Thank you, Jefferson! Thank you, Jefferson!”

Desperate souls has been missed out.
Yes, I skipped it in the hope that, because it’s so well-loved, someone else would want to write the entry for it. I’m hoping this compendium will become a group effort. If no one offers to adopt “Desperate Souls” in the near future, I’ll write the entry.
I’ll also hold off on writing up “Skin Deep” in case anyone would like to claim it.

ParticipantJohnny Depp (I dream big), playing any character of his choice. After seeing “Dark Shadows” I can’t help but fantasize about him in FTL with some scenes with Rumple and EQ.

ParticipantI want to know about the “original source.” Where did the BF get her magic, what powers did she have in the beginning, how did the first Dark One come to be, who does the BF answer to.

Knowing folks can’t leave Storybrooke, I wonder if SB is the town name and also the county’s name. .
I’ve wondered that too, since the sheriff would be a county official. The police car doesn’t say “couny” or “city of Sorybrooke” so it’s no help, but it seems to me that it’s odd Sheriff Swan is never called out to another town or a farm in the county.

ParticipantI think it’s just an insult–the ultimate insult a man can receive, since it questions his very manhood and places his relationships in jeopardy. We’ve seen nothing of Rumple’s marriage and no reliable source has yet commented on it, so for now I’d say we should reserve judgment. Besides, if there was something to the statement, Regina probably would’ve heard about it at some point and would’ve made a dig about it. Instead, she doesn’t seem to even know Rumple had a son, which suggests to me that the remark was just something the guard made up on the spur of the moment. If it had become a public rumor, it would have become part of the Rumple legend and Regina would’ve heard it.
Even if it were true, it doesn’t seem to have affected Rumple’s relationship with Bae. I don’t think anyone could say he loves the boy any less.
