Rumple will be redeemed, I have no doubt : he took two big steps forward recently (expressing his love for Belle and asking Bae’s forgiveness). We viewers are so heavily invested in his future that the writers would have to be heartless to deny us that change, but we’re going to have a long wait (hopefully! I want at least 5 more years of Once). And until we see for sure, I’m holding out hope that his apparent backsliding isn’t what it seems …although I have to admit, it looks really bad right now. It will probably take a Locke-type sacrifice to bring Rumple round, but if stubborn Jack Shepard can change, so can resourceful Rumple.

It’s the same look Gold had when took back his cup from Regina.

It’s the classic situation of man railing against the gods. Makes for great literature! Rumple and Geppetto are in company with Oedipus, Milton’s Lucifer, a whole slew of others. The gods–and the Blue Fairy–do not explain themselves, they just mess with mortals’ heads. So you either take Alexander Pope’s point of view (“presume not God to scan/The proper study of mankind is man”) or you choose to rule in Hades rather than serve in heaven.

I want to see Henry call MM “granny” and for Emma to tell her dad “That dragon you stuffed the easter egg into? I just killed it with your sword.”

Oh, and I want Belle to restore the library to its proper purpose.

I dread seeing Ruby’s realization of her FTL life.

Somehow he knew to arrange Henry’s adoption. How he knew, at a time when he didn’t even remember his own name, is nothing short of a miracle.
He knew the moment when Emma became a believer.
He knew Emma would kiss Henry and break the curse.
He knew to keep all those momentos in his shop–anyone else would’ve sold them to whoever asked, or thrown them out because they weren’t selling.
He knew when he made his deal with Regina concerning Kathryn that Regina would assume “something tragic” meant killing, and he knew Regina wouldn’t check up on him later to ask what he ‘d done with Kathryn ‘s body (although that knowledge may not be derived from an ability to predict the future ; it could just be that he’s known Regina so long, he knows she’s a sloppy planner).
I think he even knew, at the moment he decided to have Charming place the easter egg in the dragon, that Emma would be willing and able to retrieve it for him, using her father’s sword.
And I daresay Gold knew that Emma would intervene for Ashley. I ‘d say he never intended to take the baby ; he set that up because he knew it would push Emma’s buttons–put her into a position where she had to accept his deal for the favor-to-be-named-later.

He’s been wrong only twice, and both times involving people he loved. Regina shouldn’t have made Gold a pawnshop owner; she should have made him a bookie.

I hope Belle gets an upgrade in the shoe department next season. The poor girl was stuck with those hideous blue shoes in FTL and now she has those ugly nurse’s shoes. Just sayin’.

Maybe that will be Gold’s first act of magic, a quick makeover from Mr. Rumple’s House of Beauty. (That’s one thing I hope will come back, Rumple’s fashion sense. So courageous, so gallant, so rock & roll.)

I don’t understand why the mine would hold him unless it was enchanted somehow or the unmined diamonds they used to make fairy dust somehow have a magical property that could keep him from using his magic

A tiny bit of evidence for the idea that fairy dust blocks Dark One power: Rumple tells Bae, “Fairy magic doesn’t mix well with what I am”– maybe it’s the Dark One Kyptonite.

Come on, it has to be Belle. The ship that launched a thousand fanfics. Her one episode alone changed the way everyone viewed Rumple/Mr. Gold. Just think what her five minutes on screen in the finale and a summer of speculation will do. 😆

Yeah, but Bae is theraison d’etre for everything Rumple does, so how can we choose? Belle’s the heart; Bae’s the soul; I can’t select just one, so I’m double dipping. BTW, did you ever notice how the names Belle and Baelfire kind of sound alike?

The characters, now that they remember FTL, will realize what they have in common and learn to help each other. I’m imagining Charming, Geppetto, Jefferson and Rumple in a support group for fathers forced to miss out on their kids’ childhoods–well, maybe more like a Friday-night poker group.

For Rumplefans, I’d like to recommend “The Mighty Celt” and “Marilyn Hotchkiss’ Ballroom Dancing and Charm School.” And if you like mysteries, the “Hamish Macbeth” tv series. You might be able to borrow them from your library (assuming it’s not housing a dragon) .
