If we haven’t found out whether there’s magic in SB by the time Gold finds out about Belle, we surely will then! If he has any magic at all, I can imagine him calling it all down to free Belle–how thrilling that would be! And as for the kiss, we fans deserve it just as much as Belle does :D. So bring it on, and I’m confident that Rumple will find it was the best decision he’s made in centuries, because love is the most powerful magic.

Coming at OUAT from Lost fandom, I don’t care so much that all our questions get answered, as long as we get satisfying resolutions for the characters, and for me, that includes reunions between Bae and Rumple and Belle and Rumple.
darcyfarrowParticipantThere could also be a literal side to the anti-nun statement. Assuming that there are churches in Storybrooke, it would be plausible that they would be in conflict with practitioners of magic, especially a Dark One.
darcyfarrowParticipantIf it takes locks of hair from the darkest souls to create the curse (and I noticed Rumple wasn’t among those dark souls) maybe a counter-curse can be created with locks from the lightest souls…and Rumple kept a bit of Snow’s hair…
darcyfarrowParticipantI think the lesson Rumple is trying to teach (and it will be interesting to see if anyone ever listens) is that looking for shortcuts and easy solutions will only create more problems. If you don’t like your life as it is, change it, as he tells Ella (or as the characters of Lost would put it, clean up your own messes.)
darcyfarrowParticipantI never thought I’d say this, but…I too am a shipper. In all those years of Lost, I was neither a Skater nor a Jater or even a PBJer, but I just can’t help it, I’m now a Rumbelle shipper. sigh.
So I’m going to say that Belle’s right: Rumple isn’t evil but evil has taken hold of him. And I’m holding out for a Belle/Rumple happy-ever-after, and a fourth incarnation for Rumple (#1 being the “town coward, ” #2 the “monster,” and #3 Mr. Gold). I don’t know if that final incarnation should be a man of magic or not, but he should embody the best qualities of all his previous incarnations. And he must have his Belle. (And Robert Carlyle must have his Emmy or there is no justice in the world!)
darcyfarrowParticipantI don’t have a guess yet as to who he might be in relation to the other characters, but I think he’s the one who wrote the book, and that what’s happening in the scene in which we see him sewing the pages of the book is that he’s restoring the pages that Emma threw into the fire.

They help me not only understand Rumple better but also appreciate the OUAT writers more, that they created such a fascinating character. In my heart of hearts, I long for Snow to grab a hold of Rumple and remind him of what he told her, that love is the most powerful magic.
March 4, 2012 at 8:10 pm in reply to: Why do Regina/EQ and Gold/Rumple REALLY continue to “play” o #138112darcyfarrowParticipantI agree with you completely, Rumplegoldfankristi: no romance between EQ and Rumple. It would lower the level of the conflict from universal to personal. Right now, it seems the conflict is on a higher plane: not exactly good vs. evil, but more like wisdom vs. inexperience, with Rumple, in his centuries of experience, having learned not to let his emotions take control of his power (although he does occasionally slip, as when he turned Gaston into a rose–but then, wouldn’t we all have done that? 😛 )
But it does seem to me that their relationship is more than the curse buyer/curse seller one we’ve been shown so far, so I’m putting my money on an apprenticeship. My theory is that the young EQ came to Rumple to learn his tricks, and he–whether for self-gain or a vain hope he could teach her to use her power more judiciously–agreed to teach her. Or then again, maybe it’s part of the Dark Ones Code of Conduct that no deal can be refused (that would explain why Rumple accepted Ella’s contract, even though he knew better)
