I’m also going to say that August probably is not Pinocchio. I also never watched Lost but from what I can tell, the writers are really good at storytelling-they love to surprise people. And honestly to me, the idea of August being Pinocchio in a leather jacket not only doesn’t really fit, it’s also kinda lame.
For one thing like obisgirl said, he looks nothing like Pinocchio. If you look back at previous episodes, Pinocchio is shown as a kid with red curly hair. August has dark wavy hair. He could’ve dyed his hair to avoid being recognized, but until we see the episode about August’s backstory, we won’t know for sure.

Why would Gepetto use the tree as a test run for his son? That would be extremely selfish or him, especially since the tree can carry only one. They only have one try to send baby Emma to our world before the Queen’s curse. If he did do that, he’d have to ask the Blue Fairy for a second tree and I really don’t think they have the time to carve out a second wardrobe.
Exactly! Everyone keeps forgetting that one detail: The tree could only save one. Emma was the only one in that tree. True, Pinocchio could’ve been carved from that same tree, but again we won’t know for sure until we see the kid’s backstory.
@Midnight Dreary I also want to say that he’s Baelfire. I REALLY want to. But there’s one slight detail that sets them apart: August has blue eyes and Baelfire has brown eyes. Besides that, I’m convinced they’re the same person.
[adrotate group="5"]dorothyParticipantI’m hoping that maybe once she does believing the series might turn into a detective-type series. We meet a new character each time, and Emma has to figure out who they really are (and we see what they were like in FTL through flashbacks).
dorothyParticipantI wonder if doors 2 or 9 lead to King Authur’s court?
dorothyParticipantThere’s also the fact that Henry isn’t shown spending a lot of time around Rumple/Gold. Henry’s probably just as creeped out by Rumple/Gold as everyone else is, and he would probably have to hang around him more often and say more than just a few words to get a better sense of Rumple/Gold’s character.

Rumple has played such a big part in so many of the characters’ lives that it doesn’t seem possible to tell their stories without bringing him in. Perhaps Henry hasn’t figured out who Gold is because Gold and Rumple are so different physically and emotionally. Gold seems more Scrooge-like than impish.
True, but we know this because we’ve seen him in both worlds. Henry has only seen him in this world. How would he be able to know the difference?
@Phee wrote:
I think if the extent of Rumple’s deeds was spelled out properly in the book, Henry would certainly see a similarity, because Rumple and Mr Gold have one major trait in common: power. Mr Gold is the most powerful man in town, so if there’s a character who pops up in every story in the book, the one everyone goes to for help, the one who can fix everything, control any situation, it’s kind of a no brainer who he is in Storybrooke IMO. Henry’s an observant kid, so I’d be surprised if that stuff got by him if he’s had the opportunity to read about it.
Also true, but let’s not forget his other trademark: He makes deals. I think that would be the one trait to give Rumple/Gold away to Henry, because it’s so prominent.
As I said before, he may only be mentioned as the one who made the prophecy about Emma, but Henry’s book may be missing details on how her parents were told about the prophecy (SW and PC making a deal with Rumple), just as it was missing that one detail about how Hansel and Gretel lost their dad (he was snatched away by the Evil Queen).

dorothyParticipantI heard someone give out a theory that even after the curse is broken Emma might still have to defeat the Evil Queen in some sort of battle in FTL. I really hope that happens! 😯
dorothyParticipantCora vs. Rumple-that would have been EPIC. 😀

Though all of his misdeeds may not be in the book, I’ve suspected he’s not in there at all because surely Henry would have figured out who he is if he was in there.
I just thought of something! Maybe Rumple/Gold is in the book, but just mentioned too briefly for Henry to figure out who he is? In the Pilot episode while Henry is reading his book (I think it’s when he’s riding with Emma in her car), he flips to a page with a picture of a torch on it, and it goes to the scene with Snow and Charming going to Rumple for help. Maybe that’s the only time he’s mentioned in the book-as the one who made the prophecy about Emma? It could explain why Henry can’t make the connection between Gold and Rumple!

A lil while ago I had a theory that involved Emma having to guess his name to break the curse, but I’d kind of abandoned it. But that phrase you used, Dorothy, about him leaving breadcrumbs for her, and also what rumplegoldfan said, got me thinking about it again. What if that is what has to happen? And what if Mr Gold decides that now is the time for the curse to break wide open? Maybe that would be his favour? “Guess my name.” Hmmmm.
I was thinking the exact same thing! 😯

Hey! You know something I just thought of? When Emma DOES actually believe will only be the beginning of a very interesting fairy tale journey for her because, just like us, she is going to have to throw all of her preconceived notions of the classic fairy tales out the window.
That’s a good question! When she finally does, she’s gonna be the one walking around in a daze.
