“bold storytelling” = writer’s block?
The character Neal has been written off, but what of Baelfire?
The emphasis by A & E, saying NEAL is not coming back made me think that the direction the writers are taking are indeed bold, risky, and audacious. Elements needed to infuse controversy and exasperation among the audience and fans, ensuring they tune in to watch the show.
A & E are seducing us with their part vague / part definitive answers…..is he or isn’t he coming back from the dead? If the character Neal is not returning, then is it Baelfire who returns ……before he became Neal. I’ll be honest and hope the writers will be inspired to bring back who a man who has proven to be an intelligent, smart, clever, skilful survivor…..a beloved hero to his son, his lady love and his Papa.
If A & E and their writers have developed writer’s block, then may I suggest they could have used Bae/Neal strategic skills and knowledge he acquired over the course of 300 years, to defeat Zelena. Lots of potential guys you chose to ignore!

enchantedfanParticipantI’ve enjoyed reading everyone’s thoughts and comments. Sharing is great therapy when dealing with disappointments. Swanfire appealed to my romantic nature. I was not going to write anything until I see 3×16 but I read an article by Barbara Barnett and her review of “Quiet Minds”. If this article has already been discussed, my apologies, I must have skipped some conversations, but Barbara made a statement that perhaps best exemplifies why OUAT and Swanfire resonated with me:
“The show has always been about family and sacrifice. The hard choices began with the pilot episode. It’s one of the best things about the show–using fantasy to explore these elements of living.”
It is an interesting article by Barbara as she explores possible outcomes that includes Neal. The comments that follow the article are interesting too. The romantic in me feels that the writers have a sensational cliff hanger in store and it involves Neal and the Swan necklace! The realist in me only hopes this is true.
Thanks to all who allow me to share my thoughts and hope for these wonderful characters. I still have hope that Neal’s death is a plot device by the writers and his death was a ploy to destroy Zelena.

enchantedfanParticipantFrom Adam Horowitz: “There is no classier actor than the supremely talented @MRaymondJames — we are honored to have worked with him and hope to do so again.”
From MRJ: “I will always be a #Oncer. Thank you so much for your passion. Stay tuned and #SpreadLove. Peace”
For me, these quotes appear very guarded…….and suspiciously wicked (excuse the pun)!
Could it mean that Nealfire is only absent to fool Zelena? I think Neal and Belle overheard Zelena’s nasty comments about them, and because they now know about her wicked plans, the OUAT writers have Neal and Belle devise a plot to melt that green witch into oblivion.
As MRJ tweeted, “stay tuned”.Keep hoping for happy endings and true love, as you enjoy your day!

enchantedfanParticipantDear RumplesGirl, YOU DID NOT CRUSH ME…hugs…all is good. I feel your devastation about Neal’s “death”. The majority of Swanfire faithfuls are also in disbelief. It appears A & E sold out on HOPE, HAPPY ENDINGS, TRUE LOVE for 13 pieces of silver……ratings maybe!!!!!!
You are a rock for the readers. Stay that way :o)

enchantedfanParticipantTo dontstopbelievin….Thanks for your words of faith…..I can’t seem to shake the feeling that A & E have a cliff hanger in store for episode 22 and it involves Neal surviving the curse. Episode 3×16 hasn’t aired yet, of course, and we’ve only seen snippets of the burial scene. I will wait until “It’s Not Easy Being Green” has aired. It appears to be a great episode, from what I read in OUAT Wiki

enchantedfanParticipantI read the TV Guide article of March 31/14, and correct me if I’m wrong, but aren’t direct quotes supposed to be in quotation marks, like we do in these forums? That article omitted quotation marks from A & E’s answers……so I will take these “major spoilers” with a grain of salt.
A & E have a history of revealing only teasers…..so I find it odd that of all the journalists, A & E decided to bestow the honour of revealing “major spoilers” to TV Guide , 4 hours before the episode aired on ABC. ……REALLY???????
[Spoiler]When Neal revealed to Belle the SWAN necklace, he was amazed how the necklace “survived the trip.” I think is a talisman, and according to folklore, talismans offer the possessor good luck and protection from harm and evil. Perhaps the Swan necklace protected Neal from the Dark One curse.
Please be patient with me because I do not fully accept Neal’s demise. I cannot and will not. Perhaps I am reacting unrealistically to a fairytale story that had such promise, but 3×15 has left a few unanswered questions and I challenge and dispute that TV Guide article as authentic answers from A & E.
And I am looking forward to Regina’s and Robin Hood’s romance.Be who you are, and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind. Dr. Seuss
enchantedfanParticipantAfter reading the comments regarding Neal’s “supposed” demise, I felt the hopes and dreams of some of the fans, were shattered, how quickly some of the Swanfire fans accepted Neal’s demise because their hopes for Swanfire died.
Episode 3 X 15, was a confusing story indeed. Let’s put our disbelief aside for a moment, put the broken heart on hold and focus on some of the strange interactions from this episode and other episodes.
Hook is hiding something. His attitude is cavalier in this episode. Let’s look at some of his distasteful moments:
Hugging Neal – was Hook in fact, saying goodbye to Neal because he knew he was going to die….because Zelena told him about the life for a life curse?
Hook’s wimpy and cowardly apology to Belle. Is that the character of a man who changed his ways because he “loves” Emma?
In 3 x 14 Hook look worried when Emma was going to open the storm cellar so he convinced Emma to get help. Did Hook know Rumple was in the storm cellar?
Notice when the camera pans to Hook, his facial expressions, his mannerisms. I keep thinking Hook is hiding something – his connection to Zelena perhaps?
I could possibly be deluding myself too – as I believed in OUAT hopes and dreams for happy endings like the rest of the Swanfire community.
But……no. Something is not right……..as another fan put it Neal’s death was too “contrived”.
OUAT Wiki lists MRJ until episode 18 and characters would be added as more info becomes available for the following episodes.
Could be flashbacks. Also, could be MRJ is filming a movie and needed time off?
It’s wait and see. I’m relying on the amazing detective work of our Swanfire community
Keep hoping!Be who you are, and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind. Dr. Seuss
enchantedfanParticipantGreat episode tonight. Loved the sweet exchange between Emma and Neal.
Neal’s death was too easy. Perhaps it is a ruse to let Zelena think Nealfire is dead. I think A & E have written in the story that Rumple, Neal maybe Belle and Hook have planned this, as a way to defeat Zelena. Neal is not dumb as Zelena said early in the episode. Remember when Neal fooled Pan with the arrow! That takes clever intelligence.
Neal is under a sleeping spell and Emma’s TLK will awaken him as she awakened Henry.
Also, it appears the SWAN necklace is enchanted. Oh, I cannot believe A & E has written Neal out of this lovely fantasy tale. There is more to this than we are allowed to know.
