In The Thing You Love Most, Regina says that Maleficent has already been bested by “that Sleeping Beauty”, which probably refers to Aurora’s mother. So maybe Aurora’s mum was the Sleeping Beauty of the traditional tale, and Maleficent cast the same spell on her daughter before Regina’s curse came, as a final revenge. That’d explain how this world knows about the story.

This is the best logic I’ve heard all day 😆
Just a random thought, but Camelot exists in the show, doesn’t it? So is anyone else thinking it might be Excalibur? Maybe Arthur died and Lancelot took it, then when Lancelot died, Mulan took it?
I don’t know, this only just hit me, so I haven’t really thought it through yet.frumpybutsupersmartParticipantI think she loved him a little, but she’s so emotionally damaged that she didn’t have time to actually fall in love with him properly before Regina murdered him. Plus, she’s lived her entire life in our world, so she’s a lot less inclined to the love-at-first-sight thing even if she wasn’t so careful with her walls. For what it’s worth, if he lived, I think they could have ended up True Loves.
frumpybutsupersmartParticipantMaybe Mulan and Aurora’s backstories are in the book, since they happened pre-curse. When we meet them, Mulan’s already a soldier, which means that her story of joining the army as a man could still be there. As for Aurora, her timeline is weird in the show, so I’m not even going to go there.
Imagine the other stories that could be in the book though – all those other worlds in Jefferson’s hat. Maybe those stories are there too.
frumpybutsupersmartParticipantYeah, but if they changed the story a bit for the show, like they’ve done with pretty much every other story, it could still work.
frumpybutsupersmartParticipantI’m loving it so far, the new characters are interesting, and the old ones are still being expanded on. I’ll admit, it took me a couple of weeks to warm up to Aurora, but her volunteering to climb the beanstalk with Hook because she wanted everyone else to be happy if she failed was incredibly brave. I loved the Rumpel episode in particular because we saw more peasant!Rumpel and it was just generally gorgeous and emotional. And I love how much Cora’s becoming a major villain – it leaves room for Regina and Rumpel to continue on their redemption arcs without losing antagonists. Plus she was in the last season, so it doesn’t feel sudden.
frumpybutsupersmartParticipantIt would be great to have Mulan show affection for someone, but she only just lost the man she loved to a wraith, and her commanding officer to an evil witch, so maybe he coping mechanism is to emotionally close off altogether (this at least explains why she seems so cold all the time). The only time we see her before Philip and Lancelot’s deaths is when Philip is risking life and limb for another woman, which probably made her at least a little bitter.
I don’t believe that Mulan is a villain – betrayal is definitely not her style. Deception, maybe, what with joining the army as a guy and everything, but betraying the remnants of her land to Cora is not something she would choose to do, no matter what Cora offered her. She’s far too much about duty and honour and sacrifice to betray good people.
If she is a villain, it would be because Cora is forcibly controlling her, but even that could be a stretch – if Cora has her heart, it doesn’t mean she can’t rebel. Graham rebelled against Regina in order to free Charming and reunite him with Snow.
If Mulan is working with Cora, it’s not of her own free will.
frumpybutsupersmartParticipantI’m in favour of Jefferson being Regina’s brother. If Cora is the miller’s daughter in the traditional Rumpelstiltskin tale (as they keep talking about in the podcast), then she could have made a deal with him to give away her first born to Rumpel. Then Jefferson would have grown up with magic and probably been given the hat by Rumpel; and it explains why they have a pre-existing relationship in The Doctor.

Also, I think the show did a good job showing how unfair it was that MMB and not David got the lion’s share of the shaming, making the viewer sympathize with her rather than judge her.
I agree – I think most of the viewers judged David more than MM. I certainly did.

For every strong woman who is big on being a mother (Snow) there is a male who is just as devoted (Who could ever forget Jefferson?).
Another good father is Hansel and Gretel’s dad (once he actually met them). And in FTL he was a great dad who got captured by Regina because she needed children to send into the Blind Witch’s house.
frumpybutsupersmartParticipantIn light of Tallahassee, I rescind my previous post 😳 I am now officially convinced Hook loved Milah, otherwise he wouldn’t have reacted the way he did to Emma seeing his tattoo.
