GaultheriaParticipant
Sadly, how she lived is how she died: as a catalyst for Rumple’s story, rather than her own.
I think Belle from OUAT was only ever a placeholder to remind the audience of how much we liked the Disney animated movie. Since that extremely popular story had already wrapped up with its own “and they lived happily ever after”, there wasn’t anywhere for OUAT to go with Belle without angering the fans who like to freeze their favourite characters’ lives at a happy moment.
Rumpel combined two mythologies and his own OUAT backstory as a highly unpleasant character, so he wasn’t locked in to fans’ sentimental memories. If OUAT had merged Belle with Rapunzel — something season one definitely had potential to do — and explored her risk for Stockholm Syndrome, fans wouldn’t have been so upset at the thought that her life could continue to grow and change from that point.

GaultheriaParticipantActually, why is Drizella called Ivy in HH? Is it just because Disney’s Drizella wears green? I know the name has some meanings meaning dewy or fruitful….
Around here, ivy is an invasive plant that creeps up the rightful vegetation, out-competing it for light and nutrients and weighing it down.

GaultheriaParticipantSeason 3A felt more than a bit claustrophobic, with a small cast and seemingly endless wandering through darkly forested sound stages. I think that’s when the show lost touch with Storybrooke as a character — which was an important source of the show’s charm — and never recovered. If they’d kept Storybrooke on-screen during the early part of 3A, and returned the core cast to town a little earlier than they did, it would have been a good closing point.

GaultheriaParticipant– While I did find it hilarious that Lucy wore a brown paper bag over her because Ivy wouldn’t help her with her makeup, I wish Lucy would have dressed up as someone from Henry’s book. That would have seemed more in character for her to use this as an opportunity to “bring the book to life.”
Lucy’s skeleton costume may have been a Day of the Dead reference. It works out-of-universe as a nod to the actress’ heritage and in-universe for its significance to the cursed personalities:
Day of the Dead (Spanish: Día de Muertos) is a Mexican holiday celebrated throughout Mexico, in particular the Central and South regions, and by people of Mexican ancestry living in other places, especially the United States. It is acknowledged internationally in many other cultures. The multi-day holiday focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died, and help support their spiritual journey.
On a sillier note, the costume (complete with paper bag mask) could also refer to the mostly-headless Australopithecus skeleton known as Lucy.

GaultheriaParticipantYeah. Charm seems to be what this show uses to define a hero or a sympathetic character.

GaultheriaParticipantNext week will be interesting; were enough people captivated by Tiana thus far to tune in live?
That’s one of the Disney films I haven’t seen, so for me she’s not a new portrayal of a familiar character. Without that backstory, she’s a generic EF character so far.

GaultheriaParticipantIt’s sorta..icky on the part of the writers to turn an LGBT character straight “because curse” and then have her be “the other woman”. Tilly, like Alice, is gay. Ivy should be too, if Drizella is.
Do we know that B isn’t the operative letter?

GaultheriaParticipantI think the fact that Hook lied to Emma in every half season is proof enough.
Do you think Belle and Rumpel are also toxic?
Gaultheria's fanvids: http://youtube.com/sagethrasher
GaultheriaParticipantYeah for years the writers have been accused of hating Belle/hating Rumbelle because of the abuse and poor stories hurled at them but when compared side by side the supposed “favorite” ship…. the episodes speak volumes.
I think that if Hook had lied to Emma for her own good, and maintained that lie through decades of marriage until his deathbed confession, that people would be pointing to it as proof of a toxic relationship.
