I really liked the episode.  Over the course of the season, I do hope the episodes get stronger, but I did like everything it set up.  It was a Jane episode — you’re always going to get a lot of talking and character background, but very little overall movement in the plot.  So it wasn’t unexpected (to me) that we saw/didn’t see what we did/didn’t.

    Favorite Moments –

    – Elsa / Emma.  I love that they’re giving Emma a friend that’s her very own (unlike, say Ruby, who’s really Snow’s friend) or a relative (Henry) or with romantic undertones.  Emma needs someone who’s trying to understand her powers, so learn with, as opposed to learn from – ie Regina / Rumple.

    – Captain Charming.  I love them.  They also need friends who aren’t significant others, and I think they play well off of each other.  I thought their conversation about Emma was totally in character and it would’ve been strange if they didn’t have it – David’s still finding his footing when it comes to this Emma’s Dad thing and given his history, Hook should make his intentions clear to someone other than Emma.

    – Anna / Charming.  I really liked them.  I actually really like Anna.  She’s bright and funny.  The show needs more bright moments – that’s the biggest problem I had with 3a.  There was no room for lighter moments, and I personally need those to break up the constant big bad, we’re-all-in-crisis-mode stuff.

    – Snow going nuts.  So.  Awesome.  As a new parent, you’re going to have your share of pull-out-your-hair-I’m-so-overwhelmed-right-now moments.  So I thought it was hilarious to see out of control, frazzled Snow.  Yes, it was way over the top – but it was supposed to be.  She was at her wit’s end.  I don’t agree with some that Snow’s trying to take over — Regina’s obviously not capable of running the town if she can’t even handle seeing her son – someone’s gotta do it, and who would be the natural choice but one of those you consider your leader in the EF?

    Least Favorite Moments

    – Regina.  Um…the whole thing was just off.  Regina sends Henry a note by bird?  Huh?  It’s called a phone.  Call, send a text.  Heck send a text through Emma.  But a note by bird is probably the last thing I’d expect Regina to do.  And I’m really not a fan of the whole breaking down and being unable to function bit when you lose your romantic partner.  I know, she went all evil when she lost her last BF, but at least they were together for more than 5 minutes (I think).  But Robin and Regina – though I get how OQ could get intense so fast – really were together for one hot minute before Marian came back.  After all Regina has gone through, sans romantic partner, to suddenly backslide and turn into a sniveling pile of depression because she lost the guy in her life?  Now that part doesn’t ring true to me.

As for Bo Peep – I liked her!  But yes, she is definitely a 1 episode only kind of character.  Having someone like that even recurring would get very annoying very quickly.  But again, I like the lighter, campier moments so I thought she was pretty hilarious.  And I like when they take different spins on the characters so to make Bo Peep a warlord was great, in my opinion.

Question though – at the end when they apparently hear a heartbeat via Bo Peep’s staff thingy….I didn’t hear it….but that might just be me and my going prematurely deaf thing (if you ask my husband, that is!)

Emma hugging Killy and then the head hold just about did me in!  And the hands and the holding …. sigh swoon sigh….

I loved the Capt Charming talk.  That was pure perfection.  It was like A&E anticipated the ridiculous hater talk and willful misunderstanding the script tease and handed their crap back to them on a silver platter.  (I’m sure they’ll come up with some way to paint it for their own agenda but the argument will be just as hilarious as they have been of late!)

Loving the Emma/Elsa girl bonding and I fall more in love with Anna with everu scene.  Once I got over the Fabio wog I must say I loved that storyline.  BoPeep the warlord!  Awesome!  (Who am I kidding I didnt get over the Fabio wig and loved that lil rat’s nest too!!)

That’s all I got right now!  Brain’s on overload with the feels.  Dead.

I thought they established she came over with the curse…doesnt she have a shop somewhere?  I figured shes been there all along…but I’m also just catching up on the more recent spoilers so that theory may have been blown out of the water!!!

    Favorite Moments:

    – Anna & Elsa scenes.  I wasn’t particularly impressed with Frozen myself – I loved the messages but was bored by the story.  But I really like how they’re incorporating it into OUAT.  Anna was hilarious – she provided great moments of comedic relief.  I thought her running around after her sister in her wedding dress was funny, myself.

    – CGI.  I was pleasantly surprised.  Considering how much they use on this show and how hit or miss it can be, I did not have high hopes that the fantastical elements of Frozen would be captured particularly well.  The snow monster was a bit much but I loved Pabbie.  I didn’t mind the snow around Elsa, I thought it was a nice visual to explain to people who perhaps aren’t very familiar with Frozen to understand sometimes Elsa has very little control over her powers.

    – Regina and Emma’s scene at the door.  It was interesting to see Regina so very vulnerable.  I think Regina’s struggle was evident and understandable.  They made a point to show the many times Regina of the past would’ve just killed Marian and be done with it, and it may still be a struggle, she’s not giving into the evil that has become second nature to her.

    – “I’m actually quite perceptive…”  I won’t go too much into CS territory but I did like that exchange.

    Least Favorite Moments

    – I like Robin.  I like Outlaw Queen.  I think they have fantastic chemistry, and I don’t necessarily think their emotions were rushed – they were in that happy beginning part of a new relationship before Marian came back, when everything’s amazing and love is grand and you make everyone around you want to vomit…but I seriously wanted to inflict pain on Robin when he went to Regina’s to talk to her.  Talk about stirring the freaking pot!!  I love you but I made a vow?  That was insulting to both women.  And if someone built me up and then metaphorically punched me in the gut like Robin did to Regina…well, let’s just say she handled it better than I would!!  That scene made me think Robin’s going to be his own worst enemy and inadvertently push Regina closer to the edge than she’d get if he left crappy situation alone.

    – Rumple at Neal’s grave.  I think it really showed Rumple’s true colors – he may have done a lot of things “for his son” and “in his son’s name” but anyone in child-Bae or adult-Neal’s presence for 5 minutes would know those actions are the exact opposite of what Bae/Neal would want.  He wasn’t there to honor his son – he was there to justify his actions.  I’m hoping it was to show just how far gone Rumple is and how much he’s going to have to work to redeem himself for killing Zelena and lying to Belle, otherwise it was a waste of screentime and insulting to Neal’s character.

Overall, I loved the episode.  I guess I’m not nearly as critical as some, because yeah, I asked myself how freezing the lock allowed Elsa to break it, and what on earth were Rumbelle doing sneaking around some house that’s just sitting there…in SB?  Really?  That’s trouble, not a honeymoon spot.  But when I’m watching, I’m still there to escape for an hour and have some fun watching a bunch of fairy tale characters getting themselves into and out of the most fantastical situations and dilemmas.  I don’t begrudge people wanting to criticize but I have to agree with Angiebelle and say that sometimes, coming into the threads is not nearly as fun as it used to be because the criticizing overwhelms any positive remarks made.

It sounds like it’ll be a great scene – and say a lot about all involved.  David’s going to try to be Dad because he never got to be…and Killian’s going to toss a little sass back with an unsaid ‘Emma’s a big girl and we both know she’ll make her own decisions’ thrown in for good measure.  I love the idea of David trying to be Daddy to Emma and get rebuffed by everyone in earshot – because hi David, have you met Emma?!  (Snow not so much – unless they keep the Snow from the Sneak Peek around – if you haven’t seen it go check out the thread….it is AWESOME).

Haha, I do just have to make one comment about the script tease and ‘haters’…apparently they are interpreting it as Hook attempting to buy Emma.  That is awesome, just because you really have to be out of your mind to get that from the script tease!   Those haters….they used to upset me, now they just make my day with their insanity!  Probably not the effect they’re looking for, however….

Glad you’re enjoying your trip, @Obisgirl!  You’re definitely in for a great premiere when you return!  Welcome back, KJ!  The rest of you lurking around, come on out!!  🙂

They’re stuck and she can’t seem to break herself out of this fear. Emma’s life is in danger so David and Hook bromance out and come to the rescue and David talks Elsa down off the ledge with a lot of things that Anna taught him a long time ago.

And…that’s probably all I need to make Sunday’s episode awesome in my book.  My 2nd favorite ship!

EDIT: Forgot to cite my source in all my excited fangirling!

Snow’s scene was hilarious!  Such a new mom reaction – ‘gotta take over the world but I can’t take over the world but I gotta -‘ brought me back to the not-good ol’ days of no sleep and lotsa screaming.

I think it’s understood that Snowing & Regina all kind of stepped up as the leaders in the EF during the lost year…Regina’s obviously not going to be at her best, so to me it makes total sense for the town to go to Snow and/or Charming.

In regard to the ‘are you avoiding me line’ I actually got the feeling he was waiting for the next part of the Regina-plan, and wasn’t really focused on dealing with the previous night’s kiss – until she gave him an ‘ok’ and kept walking.  Emma’s the leader – she always gives direction, so when she doesn’t….well, something’s up!  So I think Emma walked into that one all on her own!  I think we might see quite a bit of passive-aggressive behavior as Emma tries to find her footing, which could be very interesting.  It forces Killian to be the leader when it comes to their relationship, something they both really need to have happen.

I actually found myself liking the Frozen stuff a lot – and I wasn’t particularly impressed with the movie.  I LOVE Anna – I hope that comedic timing she brings to the role continues, the show needs it.

HA!!!  So very true, Grumpy!  So very true.
