I wrote the other thread where someone theorized that Whale is also the Wizard of Oz that I picked up on that, also. He was mentioned as a wizard multiple times and here is the convesation referencing Oz:
Jefferson: I got what you wanted. [presenting a crystal ball to Rumple]
Rumple: What about the slippers?
Jefferson: Oh, couldn’t find ’em. Heard talk they’ve already been moved to another land.
Rumple: That’s what I needed to get to that other land.
Jefferson: Well, come with me in my hat, I’m sure we can work something out.
Rumple: No. No. Your hat only transports between magical realms. I need to get to a land without magic.
Jefferson: Why would anyone want that?
Rumple: My business.
Jefferson: You want the ball or not?
Rumple: Mm…yes
.
The Wicked Witch of the West had a crystal ball. It could be hers and the slippers are her sister’s that Dorothy took. The reference that Jefferson made about hearing they’ve moved to another land and Rumple saying he needed them to get to that land is totally referring to Dorothy. She took the slippers back with her to Kansas (even if she didn’t in the real story), which is in a land without magic, and Rumple needs to get to that land.
That’s alot of Oz references for one episode, which makes me agree with the theory that Whale may be the Wizard of Oz, too. He, too, used technology, and you could say science, to fool the people into thinking he was magical.
Looks like we might be visiting Oz someday.

I was getting that vibe, too. Plus they mentioned the crystal ball and shoes, which I assume is the Wicked Witch of the East’s or West’s, which returned to another land…probably Kansas. So they did reference Oz in this episode. They might have to refer to the silver shoes in the books instead of ruby slippers since I think MGM still might hold the copyright for them and in the book they’re silver.
I can totally see him being the Wizard. Maybe his true love will turn out to be Dorothy. Hmm…if it is, he could just get on Facebook, look her up, and tell her to come on up to Storybrooke, Maine. 😆

JosephineParticipantI think they’re going to try Emma and Hook as love interests. Or at least he’s the one trying to hit on her, but like Bee, I’m not feeling the Hook vibes. Maybe it’s because he wants to go after my dear Rumple, but I’m not lusting after him or shipping him with anyone yet.
I’m a Swanfire, fan, too, even though I don’t expect anything at all to happen between them anytime soon. They have too many problems and secrets between them, assuming he’s Henry’s father. So I do think Emma will be paired with someone else this season. My problem is, like Bee, I won’t root for anyone she’s with until it’s Baelfire. I really wasn’t even a fan of Graham/Emma and that lasted a whole three seconds.
That said, I do think Hook and Emma will have something going on. The problem with this show is we’re so used to the pairings all being “true love” that it would be interesting to see a couple together that aren’t destined for each other. Besides Whale’s brief hookup with Mary Margaret and David’s fake marriage to Katherine, we really haven’t seen non-soulmates together.

JosephineParticipantYay! Swanfire fans. Although I don’t think we’ll get Swanfire until much later seasons, I do hope we’ll have lots of banter and angst. Just like Snow and Charming, only this is coming with a lot more history behind it. From the promo, I don’t think he knows about the baby. I don’t think those two scenes are together. If he doesn’t know about the baby and he ends up finding out, and he’s Bae, too, then he’s going to have a lot of resentment toward Emma. Fireworks! His dad was too cowardly to follow him. He has a lot of daddy issues, so he wouldn’t want to saddle his kid with the same. I think he’s going to want to have a relationship with Henry, for sure, which will drive Emma nuts. I wonder how Daddy Charming will react to him being in town. I really need him to be in Storybrooke by the end of this episode.
Love the idea about the car being his. I did notice he’s in the backseat and frontseat of the car. It would make sense that it’s his car and she ends up with it somehow. It makes it even more bittersweet thinking back on the scene in “We Are Both” of Henry sitting in the Bug and missing Emma. That car is coming to symbolize their family unit. Although, this is assuming that he is the father, which I am.

JosephineParticipantOh gosh, the first thing that popped into my head was the Peaches &Herb (omg, I have no idea how I remembered that) song:
Reunited and it feels so good
Reunited ’cause we understood
There’s one perfect fit And, sugar, this one is it
We both are so excited ’cause we’re reunited, hey, heyKeeper of Rumplestiltskin's and Neal's spears and war paint and crystal ball.
JosephineParticipantReally, leggings went out in the late 90s? I graduated in 1995 and I can’t remember them being popular. I remember them when I was in elementary and middle school in the late 80s and I’ll even give into the early 90s. I’d see sweatpants before leggings. I do remember flares/bell bottoms were trying to come in and only a few kids were wearing them.
However, I do see Emma as not being into fashion and buying her stuff from thrift stores.
*high fives Bee for her taste in eyeglasses* I didn’t think they were hipster glasses at the time, but I do remember having them. I think I ended up trading them out for wire-rimmed glasses. Nowadays, I’m into the rimless and will never go back, even though the cost is outrageous.

JosephineParticipantI don’t know what to think about Hook. I’m not in love with him like a lot of fangirls already are. Rumple and Charming have no need to worry about their spots being usurped, but I don’t hate him, either. I do think the revenge thing is going to be mostly Milah and a part his hand. But right now, I’m pretty ambivalent about him. 🙄

JosephineParticipantLol, alternative universe. Especially if they see Gold holding hands with Belle. 😆
I do agree, that the clothing is a bit off for Emma. I’m around Jen’s age, and they would have been better off putting her in flannel, doc martens, and jeans. God, it was so easy to dress in the 90s in high school. But, I do admit to having a pair of glasses just like Emma’s in high school. But leggings were not in fashion. Tights, yes…leggings, no. But I live in a cold-weather state and tights are always in fashion.

JosephineParticipantOhh, I hope that Neal shows up in Storybrooke before Emma and MM return. I so want him to meet and start to suspect something before Emma shows up. Then BAM!, she comes back, and he’s talking to his son and she starts freaking out. Oh, the drama. I just can’t wait.
I was thinking the other day what Emma’s going to think when she returns. Her baby-daddy could be in town, Gold’s got a girlfriend, Charming is acting Sheriff, they’re mining for pixie dust, Regina is renouncing her evilness for now, and the library is now open. So much is going on since she’s been gone.

JosephineParticipantIn chat the other night, we had Granny running for mayor with a slogan, that I can’t remember now, and ready to start posting campaign posters. Can’t you just imagine her sitting behind the mayor’s desk, feet propped up, with the crossbow laying across her. 😆 Although, she would be a good sheriff, I don’t think Emma’s going to give up the job when she returns.
Ohh, what about Emma for mayor? Has anyone nominated her? Actually, she’d be a great choice and Charming could remain acting sheriff.
What’s funny in real small town municipal government the mayor has little power. I know, I worked for one. The real power comes from the town council president. Sort of like how the Speak of the House in Congress controls a lot of things.
