Oh, this is an interesting observation. Would changing Charming’s clothing count? He’d already fulfilled his end of the deal and so did Charming. The rest was just gravy. An unexpected bit of magic that wasn’t really necessary. Snow would have had him dressed in rags if he showed up like that, but Rumple decided to spruce him with a makeover. 😉

JosephineParticipantI’m the opposite on long term planning of the episodes. I remember reading an interview by K&H about how they write and plan the show. The have long range arcs planned out, but leave room for side stories and surprises. I’ll have to hunt it up for you to read. It was really interesting. So I don’t think they really comment on something unless is has some meaning and is already planned. They get numerous tweets and questions thrown at them and they don’t answer them all. They answer the ones they want to answer. So I feel the ones they do pick are the questions that they’ve already done some planning.
I think because Henry’s father will turn out to be Baelfire that it will turn out that the only reason Henry was able to be adopted by Regina was because both of his parents came from the Enchanted Forest.
Didn’t Henry say in the first episode that nobody leaves or enters Storybrooke. This is like the number one commandment written in OUaT. At that point, he was the only one allowed to leave and come back because he was born outside the curse. Same with Emma. Later we learn that is the reason August is also allowed to come and go. Emma and August are 100% FTL born and bred. But as far as we know Henry is only half-FTL-ite. So it goes to reason that in order for Henry to be allowed to come to Storybrooke in the first place then he’d have to be of pure FTL parentage, also. Of course, this is just speculation. His father could be the local garbage man where Emma lived, however, I don’t think so.
I do wonder if Storybrooke is like Hogwarts is to Muggles. They see only a crumbling pile of stones and are repelled from entering. They don’t know why they want leave, but wizards know that it’s the anti-muggle charms that are in place. Maybe Storybrooke repels everyone else in a similar way.

I’m pretty sure that it is on this website, at least that’s what I think I’m seeing. I won’t spoil it for anyone who still wants to guess, though. 🙂
I saw it, too, Lisa. 😆 It’s too good I’m not telling anyone, either.

Perhaps the reason Emma remained outside of SB was to be able to grow up unnoticed by the EQ.
This is an interesting theory. It reminds me of Harry Potter. In HP1, Dumbledore places Harry with his Aunt and Uncle, knowing he would grow up outside the hoopla of the magical world. Even though the Dursleys were horrible people, they met his basic needs, educated him, and grounded him in a humbling reality that served him well when he came to a world that idolized and celebrated him. It also protected him so he could one day fulfill his destiny.
Similary, maybe Emma needed to be away and have a tough life to strengthen her for the upcoming battle and war. Would she have been able to slay the dragon if she was a pampered girly girl adopted from a wealthy family? Maybe not. Plus, like you said she probably needed protected from Regina. Who knows what she would have done to baby Emma if she had known. It looked in the pilot that she ordered her henchman to kill the baby. She might have done it in Storybrooke, too.

JosephineParticipantMy favorite scenes have become those with just Charming and Rumple. Those two light up the screen. I hope we have more of it in Season 2 now that David is Charming again.
I just want to see a scene where Charming sees Gold and Belle for the first time. I’ve wrote this before, but I can just picture Charming remembering back to the “brief flicker of light” conversation and just saying “Her?” in astonishment whilst Mr. Gold shrugs his shoulder in agreement. No need for long conversations. Charming doesn’t even have to say “Her?” It could just be a raising of his eyebrows. I just want to see them together in a scene again.

JosephineParticipantIt’s the same. I just rewatched that scene and it’s just the lighting. Love the glasses. Seriously, he was the most attractive this season in this scene.

JosephineParticipantI love you. Seriously, I do. I like the commenter on that site said, this is suit porn. And nobody wears one better than Mr. Gold.

I never connected Emma to the Swan Princess, probably because Disney didn’t do that movie. And her name was Odette. My neice used to be obsessed with that movie. I always thought the Swan referred to The Ugly Duckling. In that story, the ugly ducking felt left out and like it didn’t belong. It was never really part of the group. Then it grew up into a beautiful swan and found it’s own kind and happiness. That’s Emma. She didn’t belong to anyone as a child or up till now. She’s finally blossoming into a swan and has found her family and place in the world.
That’s Swan Lake not Swan Princess. Disney did do Swan Princess and is based on Swan Lake.
It wasn’t the Disney company. I know my Disney shows. It was another movie company, but not Disney.

You’re correct that it’s based on Swan Lake, but her name was Odette in The Swan Princess, too. I still know most of the songs and have a copy somewhere. I must of had to watch it a million times. My neice used to be in love with Prince Derek and loved the “Princesses on Parade” scene while my nephew loved Rothbart.
And I didn’t mean that she was actually the Ugly Duckling in the story, just that it sums up what her character has been through and the connection to the name Swan and why they picked it.

JosephineParticipantI love him, too. If it was played by another actor, I think I’d really dislike him, but Robert Carlyle is intense and fantastic. There aren’t too many actors who could pull off the dichotomous role of Rumple and Gold.
