JosephineParticipant
Awww, my sympathies, RG. However, I do like the name “Once Upon A Doing It Wrong”. Very apt title.
Tonight is Grimm and then Wedding dress shows! They don’t seem to go together but surprisingly you get more grossed out by the bride shows than on Grimm. 😆

JosephineParticipantWatcher, some of the spoilers are in the Filming thread, but they were posted on tumblr, then take off, then someone reposted. Go to Tumblr and do a “ouat spoilers” search and they should come up.

JosephineParticipantRG, get out of the tag! Step away! 😛 (No, indulge yourself.)
Is it bad I hope all the spoilers from yesterday are true? 😈 It will make the fandom totally implode in on itself. Massive casualties everywhere. Death, destruction, desolation…and any other D words I can think of. And I really can’t see that they’re too far off because it’s stuff we’ve predicted for awhile here and also floating around tumblr.
I think I need pizza tonight.
Grimm tonight! Will Nick find out he has a little bundle of joy on the way? Poor baby with parents who despise each other. Will be great to watch the fallout.

JosephineParticipantThis is definitely a show we need to watch this summer. 😉 Although I hope we have a have a better track record with this than we usually do with Summer fare. Although, it’s a BBC/PBS production so that is a thousand points in its favor. 😛

JosephineParticipantSo Bobby has two potential means of leaving the show:
1. Death. He’s stabbed, cleaved, his curse is removed one of various methods and he dies. Like I’ve posted elsewhere, the relationship of Will/Belle will allow Belle to continue on the show and move on with another relationship.
2. Rumbelle gets their B&tB ending. I could see that, too, but IMO less likely. If the writers are feeling charitable, they give us the B&TB TLK, they go over the line off into the sunset to travel around the world like Belle wants out of life and Rumple is away from the temptation of magic. (Hope he has some spun gold stockpiled somewhere to finance it.)
Both methods actually allow him to come back in flashbacks as his impish Rumple from the EF in flashbacks next year on a temporary basis.

JosephineParticipantThats’s the problem. Relationships aren’t developed. They’re told to us. We don’t see human connection between any of the characters anymore. We’re TOLD too much (e.g. that Will and Belle are a thing now but never ever shown anything to hint at it). But they never take the time to develop anything. It’s all plot, plot, exposition, plot.
Season One had plot but it also had development. We saw the Snowing and Rumbelle fall in love. We saw Emma struggling with accepting her place in Storybrooke as the biological mother. We saw Rumple’s despair at losing his child. We weren’t told…we were shown. That’s the biggest criticism I have about the show now.
With Rumple, we have no background about his motivation. Just action that doesn’t cotton to what we know of his past characterization. There is secrecy and then there is bad storytelling. There is a disconnect. It’s like they’re saying “Yeah, you loved him but we really need him to be a big bad.” Yes he was never a “hero” but we understood his motivations. Now I just don’t care.

JosephineParticipantAnd there is no show after S5, at least if we’re looking at ratings and predictions for forthcoming season ratings. S5 is most likely (I’d say about 85% sure here) the end. And even how they are presenting this arc’s story as the ultimate way to fill in a lot of the blanks and really tear apart what it means to be a hero or a villain. A lot of this story this season isn’t just “story of the arc” it’s “story of the show” and is being presented as a big wrap up, or at least the biggest heave ho before they do two smaller arcs in S5 and then bow out. And if A and E and ABC know that, then they don’t have to consider how the loss of RC affects the show and its ratings anymore. They can be a bit devil may care because it’s the end. They can bring in someone new for a short arc (Jafar seems like the biggest option and theory right now) and then end the show after that arc is done.
This exactly. If they’re assured of a series ending Season 5, then they can let go of Bobby. They won’t be a slave to ratings because they’re committed. ABC/Disney has them do Aladdin, something they’ve already touched on in Wonderland and want to do anyway, to coincide with it’s re-release. It’s a multi-platform promotion, and then they have the freedom to end the series how they want for 5b. From a business and ratings standpoint, Robert Carlyle is not required. My view is they bring back Naveen Andrews (who has a big name on tv of his own) and with Lana and the others they won’t have to worry about the void made by Rumple’s demise.
Heck, I even expect if Rumple dies that Bobby may come back intermittently to do flashbacks. Not on a weekly basis, but he could still do his past role part time, he’s still getting air time and drawing viewers and everyone is happy (except viewers).

JosephineParticipantDoes anyone believe that Rumple will live beyond the season finale?
I tend to be a bit stubborn about some things. So I’m set in my headcanon that Rumple is dying at the end of the season (and they expect to fill in the loss by Naveen Andrews as Jafar in Season 5). Every post I make is colored by that belief and every theory I make is based on it. If I’m wrong I’ll be shocked but I’m really assured of my opinion. But how many of you think that Rumple actually has a chance of going into the next season and ultimately getting his happy ending?
I really think they’re pointing to not everyone gets their happy ending. And in real life people DON’T get their happy endings. But the big mistake they’re making is they made us love Rumple in season 1-3a so much that destroying his character and ripping his happy ending away from him might just ruin the show, too. I know this is going to be dismissed by some because I adore him, but there are so many who watch the show purely for Bobby Carlyle (or Lana Parilla). Yes, people proclaim all the time “I’ll never watch it since X left the show” yet the show in question goes on for years. But this show is a different animal. Every single freaking story line has Rumple at it’s core in some way, shape, or form. He’s dynamic, charismatic, and compelling. He’s not the most physically attractive person on the show, but when Bobby is on the screen eyes just go to him because of his acting ability. What is Once without the imp?
I’m digressing, but it would be interesting to hear if anyone truly believe Bobby’s not going anywhere.

JosephineParticipantAs many have said here, Mortal!Rumple is something Dearies would love to see. It’s compelling and fascinating to watch the struggles of a sorcerer cope with mortality, family, and even a much younger wife. We find it interesting, but I don’t think Adam, Eddy or the writers view it that way. It doesn’t have SHOCK or BOLD value to it. It’s a human story, who wants that! (Only everyone BUT the writers). And I’ve gotten the feeling they’ve never liked Rumbelle…it’s something they had to pander do, but never liked.
So I could so totally see them pulling the Beauty and the Beast ending/Rumbelle kiss and giving it to another couple. They love their parallels. Plus, I really think Bobby is done after this season. The way they’ve been writing him his death is the only outcome. Will can be in the background to comfort Belle after his death, we have a link to Aladdin through Will/Jafar in Season 5, and CS get their TLK. It all fits together nicely. And while Bobby is a draw, Jafar can bring people back for Season 5.
If it’s not Emma then it will be Hook that stabs Rumple. One of those two is going to briefly be the Dark One but I’d put my money on Emma.
Keeper of Rumplestiltskin's and Neal's spears and war paint and crystal ball.
JosephineParticipantMy theory is Emma will stab Rumple in a way that makes her look a hero, he dies, she turns into the Dark One, but her curse is soon lifted by TLK from Hook. That’s my take.
And #BOOM! That’s where we’re headed… (Applaudes Jo!!!)
Oh, please don’t applaud me on that. Many of you know my opinions on this. But it’s how I think it will come to pass.
