ParticipantI thought this might be interesting for some of you. Vulture is doing a weeklong feature called “The Ratings Game”. The articles deal work how producers, writers, showrunners handle with Nielson ratings. One of them includes a producer’s experience of being a Nielson family himself. Fascinating stuff.

ParticipantI know I have at least one show that is certain to be canceled that I’m praying for a “Hail Mary” play to be called.

ParticipantIt will be interesting how the new changes affect our favorite shows. I’ve read that some will definitely increase in ratings and some will decrease. The key is by how much. Not only in reaction to Once, but other shows we all watch. I know I have at least one show that is certain to be canceled that I’m praying for a “Hail Mary” play to be called.

ParticipantVery very cute! I’m lagging on finishing things. I have been knitting though. Currently knitting a faux inverted pleat skirt.

ParticipantNow it will be interesting to note what next year’s will be. (Because we are getting renewed)
What was interesting is for all we talk about Madame Secretary being no competition for Once, the ad rate wasn’t that different.
Here is the article for those interested.

ParticipantCan I ask something (that Google would be able to answer but I’m a zombie today)?
Do we know the actual rate paid by advertisers during particular shows. The real charges from an accounting standpoint?

ParticipantMaybe when the darkness was lifted from Rumple his past victims were released. So she magically appears in Storybrooke and is now part of the “We Are Both” curse. Her alter-ego is a crossing guard.
*sigh*

ParticipantKelly. ???.
It’s a shade of green.
(It’s also an absolutely fantastic name and the Grimm baby is Kelly, too.)

ParticipantThe problem is that they have no idea and never have known how to write Rumbelle. I adored Rumbelle in season one, even to 3a (where the show really ended for me at 3×10). Skin Deep is still a masterpiece and I can watch it almost like an independent 44 minute movie. But the writing afterward is atrocious.
Here is a couple that had enough issues internally but then they had to go and add kidnappings, amnesia, death, separation, etc. Season one Rumple was layered and complicated but by season four he became a caricature of his former self. The writers really ruined him. Add to that the subpar treatment of Belle throughout the series (to be fair, they killed Snowing, too).
Rumbelle has become this ship that is so much better in fanfiction. In fanfiction, they can deal with feelings and thoughts, address issues like PTSD and addiction. The show will never ever do this. And ultimately the popularity of the ship is propelled by Bobby and Emilie. They do the most with what they’re given, which admittedly isn’t much.
For a show supposedly about hope and happy endings, Rumbelle has really gotten the short shrift. Every supposedly happy moment has been clouded in angst. We got a reunion then immediately a kidnapping. They had a wedding but he was lying to her. There is only so much sadness you can be lobbed at fans before they leave.
At this point, I really don’t care what happens to any of them. Which for showrunners is worse than angry fans. At least with hate-watchers, their eyes turn in to the show. Apathetic fans will just not watch at all anymore. And based on the ratings slide (yes, I know all the excuses–football, holidays, blah, blah,…) more are feeling the same way.

Participant– The whole Hook-kills-Merlin-because-he-has-Nimue-inside-him-as-a-dark-one thing. I feel like Rumple could have cast the dark curse like a looooonnnngggggg time ago with this theory in mind. I mean, why didn’t he just take the thing Zozo loved most and kill it? Problem solved.
Yes, Rumple could have saved all that time grooming Regina to embrace her evilness to enact the curse. All he had to do was free Merlin from the tree, channel Nimue, and BAM he’s in our world. But these are also the same people who said no beans exist…none, nada, zip, zilch. Exceeeeept the one Ruby had. And gave us the Apprentice’s door, and …
In the end, Rumple was quite stupid for taking 200 years of searching for a way when there are so, so many. Lazy man.
(Jo might be a bit bitter about this show.)
