KebParticipant
She was listening to MM and David’s phone conversations–we know for a fact that she listened to the one as Emma and Neal were bringing Gold back to Storybrooke. It makes sense that they overheard the location of the dagger, too, because they got there so fast (I had been wondering about the timing there–but knowing where David and MM would be + a little time to work out grabbing Johanna for insurance/evil purposes makes sense). I suspect, as a result, that Regina and Cora knew exactly who the unfamiliar man had to be, which is why they never asked–plus, you know, war. It didn’t much matter to Regina at that time that Henry had another parent/grandparent in the picture; she had no love for Rumple (and Cora was quite content to kill him anyway to get his power), so it was just more people on the other side.
Now that her plan seems to be letting MM self-destruct, she might well take a little time to process the fact that Neal is Henry’s father (whom Emma had promised was out of the picture back in the day) and that Gold is her son’s grandfather (and she may fear him enough not to go against him, but she’s got even more reason to dislike the man at this point–she knows he set her up with the curse, that he wanted it broken, that he got MM to trick her into killing her own mother and stole Cora’s life–he might well be a father figure in her life but she’s got every reason to hate him almost as much as Snow at this point).
I think the phone taps explain the lack of explanation needed, as frustrating as that is. There’s a lot that goes on off-screen that has to happen for things to work.

KebParticipantI think too that Snow hoped if she died, not only would it end her pain, but it would stop Regina from hurting the others.

KebParticipantI’m not sure he’s rejecting his new family–I just think he’s not sure how to take it. First of all, his connection to the Charmings is Henry, and right now he firmly believes that Henry is going to be his undoing, which scares him. He’s still a coward. Also it’s all really new, this idea of actually having family.
And his history with them is, um, complicated. He traded David’s twin away at birth, and then traded David away and almost got him killed, then roped into an arranged marriage, then the target of a really mad King George. He taught Cora and then Regina magic (which they may not know), helping to corrupt them, which had a lot to do with Snow’s misery, and got Regina to cast the Curse that separated their family for 28 years (which at least Regina knows full well). Oh, and while he helped bring them together (the ring to find Snow, for example, or telling Charming she was after the Queen), he also gave Snow the potion to forget Charming and sent Charming to fight a dragon. The stuff they directly experienced from him was a bit like working with Jack Sparrow–whose side is he even on? And just before the curse they were more than happy to help Cinderella lock him up, as a dangerous being who caused too much harm. (Yeah, his grandson’s other grandparents are the people who dared to try to trick him and lock him in a prison–whether or not he actually wanted to be there.) And first thing he does when he gets magic back? He summons a wraith that wrecks the town and almost kills Henry’s mother, resulting in Emma and MM getting trapped in FTL for a few weeks. He -is- dangerous and occasionally unhinged. They’re right to be a bit circumspect about him. MM even said she could let him die and kill two evils with one stone.
While I don’t think they hate each other–they wouldn’t have tried to save him, putting their own lives and souls on the line against Regina and Cora if they did–they don’t exactly like, let alone love, each other. And now David knows full well that Rumple got Snow to help kill Cora on his behalf, which is why he was so angry when Rumple showed up at their door. He wasn’t even entirely gracious about helping them out despite the obvious debt he owes that branch of his family now. Oh, and he was in such a hurry to leave that he left MM alone long enough for her to go surrender to Regina, which isn’t going to exactly improve David’s opinion of him.
I expect that they will one day reconcile, but he’s gonna have to earn a lot of brownie points in the meantime. Right now, he’s not even sure how much he wants to be part of that family–he clearly never saw that in a vision, because he was as shocked to be related to Henry as everyone else was about it. I think he likes them–Henry is among the only people he’s ever freely given something to, he respects Emma and David in ways that he respects very few people (he’s actually willing to go to them when he needs help), and of course he loves his son. But I don’t think he knows what to do with this new relationship quite yet because it’s something he hasn’t really had–his dad apparently ran out on him, he was raised by spinsters (suggesting that they were not so much a family unit somehow, just int he phrasing of the Seer), Milah hated him as soon as his son was born, and he never had a family after that. Like Emma, he’s not used to anyone putting him first.

March 18, 2013 at 5:39 pm in reply to: Do you think Emma brings American culture and values to SB? #180715KebParticipantWell, I think that she brings some with her, but I think that part of the curse was that they were all given identities that had memories of American life. They remembered watching ET and Splash and reading Alice in Wonderland in school, even if those things never happened (clearly the case with David, who I think it was remembered reading Alice but was in a coma from day one of the curse). So it’s perhaps a mix.

March 18, 2013 at 11:45 am in reply to: WELCOME TO STORYBROOKE .. favorite / least favorite moments #180659KebParticipantI think the saddest thing about Regina is that she WAS a mom when she met Owen. She had totally had her chance to love and be loved by Snow. Snow wanted a mother, and did act lovingly toward her even until the huntsman took her to the woods. But because she cast the blame that rightfully belonged to Cora onto little Snow, she wasted that chance. And she’s right, she never learns from her mistakes.
Loved this whole episode. Only least favorite thing is that there was no Belle.

KebParticipantHenry’s got Snow’s optimism, Rumple’s smarts, Neal’s sneakiness, Emma’s intuition, Regina’s sass (okay, they all have some sass), and David’s determination. You can definitely see some of him in all of them.

KebParticipantWell, Adam has said that moments repeated but it wasn’t the same day every day. And I have a feeling that Regina might have nudged things at some point just to relieve her own boredom–she’s in control here–and may well have adjusted Henry’s schooling a bit.

KebParticipantRumple seemed to think it was possible, though his explanation wasn’t very reassuring to her. Or probably to him, either.

KebParticipantI’ve actually started trying to trace where the blood feud goes back to, and there’s actually a couple lines of it coming down. I’m quite sure there will be more threads added.
But where things seem to start: The Seer tells Rumple his son will be fatherless, leading to everything Rumple does. Rumple kills Milah, leading to everything Hook does. Eva trips Cora, leading to everything Cora does. It becomes Snow’s war when Cora kills Eva, and Regina’s when Snow tells Cora about Daniel. George’s grudge against David is sparked by whomever poisoned his wife…if there’s a link to Cora there, that would be fascinating, though it doesn’t become about David personally until he rejects the marriage with Abigail.
And there’s a LOT of killing and attempted killing in between, mostly Cora/Regina vs their own family and vs. Snow’s family. (Cora/Regina are responsible for Snow’s parents/nanny dying, Snow is responsible for Cora/Daniel dying, Cora/Regina actually killed Regina’s parents and Daniel…)
