I think the blood magic, the fact that Cora is definitely Zelena’s biological parent, and the fact that the show really hasn’t even suggested that Regina was anyone else’s–plus the fact that Cora was a princess when Regina was concieved and born (so, serious lack of privacy) all make a very strong case that Regina IS Cora’s daughter, biologically.

It makes for an interesting AU theory, but so much of the plot has hinged upon this relationship being accurately presented up to this point that I don’t think they’d pull a reversal that…drastic on us. Also, the marriage to Leopold was messed up even before we were told he was once engaged to Regina’s mother…having her be Snow’s sister (even half) is…kinda a step too far. (And the havoc on the family tree? Do you REALLY want it to be more impossible to untangle?)

I’m saying he’s being nicer than Zelena was to him (which is relevant because someone said he’s reliving his trauma with her and it’s…not quite that), and a tiny bit nicer than could be expected from Rumple given how we’ve seen him treat Hook in the past and how we’ve seen him treat other people. He’s not being nice in any objective sense whatsoever, and he is getting sadistic pleasure from the fact that he gets to destroy the man he most hates to get his ultimate power–Christmas came early for Rumple (at least, that’s what he thinks atm).

At the same time…the fact that he was willing to reassure Hook even slightly that Emma would probably be safe from him…it was a bit of his human side peeking out from under all the darkness. It’s still there and that’s what I’m clinging to. Rather desperately.

I still believe there’s good in Rumple too. I think he’s actually being NICE to Hook…given the situation and the fact that it’s basically the man he has the most hatred for.

They HAVE been emphasizing the bit where magic survives and goes to other forms this season. DQ’s magic, the urn, and if you go back a little further, the whole thing with Zelena’s portal fits into this too…

So maybe Sneak Rumple grabbed some Maleficent dust and hatted it just in case.

AAhahahahaha accurate prediction is probably accurate…

They DID cut something from the scene where Rumple puts her in the shop when we got the script tease. He didn’t say the in you go bit, and then after…the dangling dagger was just weird. And seriously it sounded like Hook was meant to be playing off what he just observed rather than his past knowledge of Belle’s love…

SO, you’re right.

But let me have my hope for a little bit?

Also: I keep thinking about Hook’s “dying request” and Rumple’s response to it. He’s like, yeah, not making deals with you, until he hears what it is–and then he offers Hook some slim reassurance. His face is actually almost compassionate when he says Emma & Storybrooke are safe from him, before he adds the caveat (though he seems to think it unlikely, and may actually be warning his puppet with it more than anything else).

Let’s add to that the conversation about the fleas: Hook is appalled that Rumple would condemn the entire town, including his grandson; Rumple is equally appalled that Hook even suggests he’d let something happen to Henry (at this point in his development, I hasten to add). And when Hook is terrified that Rumple will make him hat Emma…Rumple’s come up with a better plan and doesn’t force Hook to attack Emma even though he could.

Unlike Zelena, he’s not keeping his puppet caged, he’s not physically torturing him and is really only using him for the things he absolutely needs for his plan, he’s not ording him to kill the woman he loves, and he’s showing glimmers of compassion for what he’s doing, however faint.

Yeah, PoM hit the nail on the head. Though I was annoyed as heck when Belle was entirely absent, one of the moments that stands out this season is Rumple’s speech in the mansion to Emma–which they’ve pretty much said would have been cut if the episode hadn’t been expanded to two hours. Yet that speech characterized Rumple and Emma (and even Belle) better than any action they’ve done this season.
