ParticipantRegina’s headgear in the scene does have coinage in it. It’s sort of a very interesting blend look because that earring has no color or beads, and is all metal and wire. Rather than a woven mesh, it is spirals of ovals. There are no feathers, no natural materials, which stylistically would be more clear hint to dreamcatcher rather than big gypsy earring, but you are right, no coins or even evil eye beads. In the context of the episode and Regina’s life generally,I feel gypsy makes more sense. I wonder how significant that detail was in terms of production design.

ParticipantI don’t know how they do these things but my Oct 18th EW was in my mailbox 2 days ago (No idea how long it was sitting there….) and there was not a drop of OUAT in at all. Didn’t even make the “What to watch” section, the BullsEye or anything. Kind of sad 🙁

ParticipantI was thinking about the jewelry, and feel like a Gypsy nod is what they were going for there with the old woman disguise, and the second seems like a tree but I couldn’t find a better close up picture to say for sure. Regina kills a gypsy woman (Esmerelada?) to become an apprentice. So maybe there’s some theme for her with Gypsy.
Then I was trying to find pictures of Gyspy jewerly to compare to Dreamcatcher ones and I found this.
So the Evil Eye is a symbol for gypsies, which involves that oval shape that repeats in the spiral on the old woman’s earing rather than being a true weave but immediately that made an entirely different connection for me when I saw this.

Creepy. I am not sure what to make of the meaning for Regina specifically other than we know Rumple foresaw her as being the one to cast the curse.

ParticipantI “like them apples” as the saying goes! That was really interesting TimeSpacer and I missed it in season 1 so glad you posted it here.
They have toned down the apple theme a lot. We had a winking reference with Pan asking Henry why he does not like them, then the William Tell thing, but it is still interesting. I know they will never give Regina a daughter to name, but Apple worked for Gwyneth Paltrow.
RG: that would make sense, as there are many similarities between all the “children” who suffered at the hands of their selfish parents, which means, Emma, Neal, Regina and probably Rumple and Hook.
What do we make of the bright blue Blazer over the red scarf for her wardrobe? (Besides that I hate it and think it looks like something I would wear, unstylish shopper at discount chain stores that I am 🙂 Obviously, she is not in full black, but also it is business like rather than seductive like the Evil Queen and even many Mayor Mills outfits. Maybe that is the point, she is dressing suburban (though more upscale) Mom.

ParticipantI agree PoM and RG it looks more like his first trip was post Milah’s death, and I think Tink arrived after he had been there for 200/300 odd years.

ParticipantEko was awesome. I think in general, he is great example of how writers change stories too. (From Eko’s Lostpedia page)
Damon Lindelof stated that Eko’s story arc was originally supposed to last 4 seasons however due to Adewale’s dislike of living in Hawaii he was killed off after a little over one season.
I wish we had CSF to muse on the theme of shifts in vision and how the writers can say something like “always hope” to every ship. I do not like how the culture of shipping tends to polarize thought against a storyline, characters and other fans, when as fans we cannot have complete control over how it goes, nor should we as we respond to different things at the pesky details level. I want Emma and Neal to be happy, along with other characters. I have thoughts on how Regina, Hook and the others would reach happiness too, in my vision of SF playing out. Yet the writers might go for something darker. We never know. So I want realistic hope, but at the same time, I am in tune enough with the troll mindset to find humor in contemplating things like LIttle Birdies (Robin Hood and Emma Swan). THis might drive the “faithful” shippers wild but I believe Adam and Eddy would totally snicker about things like this. I know they do not write alone and the execs might say things but they answer the questions and their idea of what is a cool story is likely not as romantic as ours! So I only know I can have fun looking at the clouds, seeing intention and hoping that the Droll Trolls still think that SF is poetry.

ParticipantThanks! I would not say “nothing is coincidence” but I do believe the writers intend things as a matter of destiny to set up Neal and Emma to meet, then give them the choice to get back together. Obviously, that’s the choice at this point in the story I am hoping the writers intend to make for the characters, but we are judging only on part of the story!

ParticipantI am fine with Emma struggling with her feelings and to understand everything that has happened. The more they show this on screen, the more believable it is that she does love him, and they are building the relationship again, piece by piece and step by step.
That’s the symbolism of the Phoenix. It makes its own pyre, dies in it, and an egg hatches inside it and it is reborn anew. Emma and Neal’s “swanthief” love died. They went their separate ways, but they carried a flame for each other. That tiny spark ignited and flared up (like a bonfire!) for a brief moment as he fell through that portal. Then it simmered back down inside of Emma, though Neal is still filled with that love. I was happy to hear him say he knows this is his second chance, that he screwed up. Before their “SwanFire” love can really be a full-fledged relationship between them, they must both come to grips with who they were, who they are, and most important, who they want to be. I think they both want their son and to be home with the people ( not just one true love soul-mate) who love them.

ParticipantNow that I have all the visuals there, I love the observations about Unicorns, and it is interesting because they also used Unicorns for Emma’s nursery. Maleficient had a pet PonyCorn too. (Funniest looking thing ever).
Then of course there was Regina’s line “Rainbow kisses and Unicorn Stickers.”

ParticipantNot sure why the commercial dreamcatcher earrings didn’t post.
