It was not clear but it seemed like Jafar would have killed the RQ except he could not track Alice and she could .  She seemed to be playing a game so no idea what she wanted.

    Bad:

I have to agree–too much bad scenery CGI.  The creature animation was great, and some action scenes like Jafar was not bad on his carpet.

Red Queen, she definitely lacked the presence and sinister snark that Lana brings the Evil Queen, but it is not just that she looked like a little girl playing dress up.  That could be chilling too as we saw with the playful cheeky tone Robbie Kay gave PP.    She just did not seem scary.  I was sorry Jafar did not just kill her to establish some shock value and boss attitude for him.

    Hokey marshmallow joke.

No mention of Knave struggling with cursed identity (did he not just wake up?)

    Good:

Jafar.  He had the presence and held the villain spot with everything I felt the RQ lacked.

Rabbit: He was animated well and full of personality–perfect voice choice.

Chessire Cat.  Same, though it seemed like more of  a fun sequence than setting up some dramatic arc as with the rabbit so bit disappointed that this character was more fluff.

Reference to Hatter and his house.

    Alice & Cyrus: Awwww

Said it before but this time with no offense to dear sweet Bailee Madison but: That whole narration was so Disney Jr. in tone on the DVD was hard to take it seriously.  I’m excited to see the  backstory here as well, and I agree that he’s saying Killian Jones as before that moment he lost his hand and swore vengeance.  I think there might be a progression to how he took to using the name Hook that happens in NL.  Sort of like Regina wasn’t always The Evil Queen but we saw it was a progression of sorts from horrified about a dream strangling Snow to dreaming of horrible things to do to Snow.  Rumple started her off, but she did make her choices.  So perhaps PP sort of played with Hook in the same way, but to what end?  Rumple did it to find Bae, but PP was looking for Henry, and Hook’s path was not very direct in terms of that so it couldn’t be something to do with that.

I kind of lost track of all the spoilers  to even make a guess now when he’d get to NL and who he might meet first.  I kind of want it to take long enough that his arrival has real impact in terms of turning the tide of hope for the characters, perhaps being able to offer insight into Pan’s tactics from having been a lost boy himself, possibly having escaped.  I hope he escaped rather than being strategically released, so that he turns out to be this wild card that Pan didn’t expect.

I don’t know what the writers have in mind.  Sometimes we expect something warm and fluffy and what we get is a fiance, a prophecy of doom, and a gunshot + portal drop.  On the other hand, the fiance was faking it, the prophecy is something Rumple wants to change,  and Neal miraculously survived.

So I expect much more dark and twisty bleakness before the writers are ready to offer the ray of hope, before then introducing a whole new world of problems.  (Hm that’s not really an Aladdin reference but I’m excited for OUAT:WL so maybe it is….JAFAR…. :P).

    I like the song.

About Neal & Tamara–it was genuine on his part in the sense he was not using her for a green card or a rent controlled apartment.  It was not genuine in the sense that the person he thought he could love enough to finally after 10 years try to move on from Emma  did not actually exist.   The writers made sure to show us enough about Tamara to realize she was fanatical, resourceful, and a skilled liar, who could seem genuine even when she was totally faking it.  Then they went the extra step and made sure we knew she had no real affection for Neal beyond a mild sympathy, because that ring was coming off, as she told Greg, soon as that mission was over.

I hope the writers keep the romance on hold for awhile because I really don’t like the idea of raw and vulnerable Emma, stripped down by Pan’s mindgames, grief and loss, fear for Henry, lack of sleep and food, falling in love with anyone right now.   I feel she has to reclaim her identity as the savior, as a kicking bails bonds/sheriff person, as Henry’s mother and Snow and Charming’s daughter/friend, and as someone with a whole lot of true love magic pouring out of her.  Once she’s “Emma again” instead of this little lost girl, thrown off by the magic of NL and the circumstances, then I’d find a storyline more romantic.  I feel like Pan’s toying with everyone there, the moment they set foot in his domain so no one is really “themselves” or even knows what that means right now.

Jane”if you ship it I write it”  Eppeson is back at the helm.  Her interview with B. Barnett revealed that Jane is more into writing character and dialog than plot.  So brace for it, because I think there will be lots for shippers to pour over.

I agree Lonebamf, he is dressing the part he thinks he has to play to get Henry, yet the more he recalls this side of him, the more he worries, can I really do this?

What do you make of his shadow and the dagger?  It obviously seems to be a hint of how PP’s shadow might have become a separate yet connected entity.  The shadow peels off and can follow limited orders.  I wonder if we will see Rumple’s shadow do anything.  Is it the “Dark One” side of himself, so all that is left is Rumple, with all his fears brought to the surface?  He has to realize he has hundreds of years of experience, knowledge of magic, fighting and that perhaps he does not need his Dark One powers anymore.  Yet he thinks that’s the part he has to play.  Then PP gives him that doll and it takes him, as PP’s comments to Emma about her true self, back to a time of weakness, back to his childhood trauma.

You know, I’ve lived under the shadow of my father’s actions for too long now.

That is what he said to Milah about going to war.  I wonder how the writers might adjust his story with his father, since the scene in that episode, that should have preceded this scene, Manhattan, was cut.   Perhaps literally there will be some shadow haunting him?

For now though, I wonder if/when we will see Rumple’s shadow.

I could see that.  It could lead to the group splitting if the cure is based on items in different locations.  I could see Regina saying, Rumple had the right idea, bye fools I am going after Henry.  Then maybe that is why she is wandering alone, meanwhile Hook leads them to TB, because the cure might have something to do with her.  In the play TB drinks the poison for PP, so maybe this  is their spin on it.
