ParticipantIt is interesting to draw a parallel between SB and NL, Emma & Henry. We don’t know where Rumpel’s curse came from–but BF had an idea of the price of it. She could have seen a similar thing before, like when NL became NL. There may be something to it, that still has PP & lost ones as evil–like Regina was in SB though she created it. PP could be the victim of his own curse, yet not ready to break it.

ParticipantPrice is right again (ha ha…) –Milah is probably a character they will flashback to in order to show Hook’s progression emotionally.

ParticipantThey are magic beans, so maybe her WL magic would not work as that was size change magic for people. Gold did not mean other beans but other outsiders I thought.
The plant Regina left in her office might have a root for a cutting. Why did GOAT not destroy the plant when they took Regina? I suppose they were in a hurry and didn’t realize a cutting would work, plus maybe they had planned to blow up the town/magic some other way than the failsafe. Cuttings don’t always grow if not handled properly and even fast-growing beans presumably need some weeks and giant/dwarf loving care.

ParticipantDid we see Hook & Cora throw the bean? Because I don’t remember them jumping/sailing into the portal–we just see them on the ship emerging out of it. She totally could have made his ship fly onto the ground.

ParticipantI do ship CS casually unlike that Meme. I need one with Jefferson saying “OTP? How arrogant to think your ship is the only one!” or something like that.
The writers are putting in lots of tropes–romantic false leads, red string of fate, triangles all these things are just tools to create conflict in the show, and in the fandom stir some emotion.
The writers ultimate intentions may not be fully revealed yet or even decided–but they clearly have not tried to stop speculation about Hook and Emma when they easily could.
About that tweet–I don't see them adding another node to connect to Emma or she will just seem fickle or like romance flypaper. So it could mean a connection to Hook (he falls for someone else or someone falls for him–Regina? Ariel!!?) or a connection to Neal (Mulan… ? The third wheel of boring doom? Nooooo!) My preference would be Ariel falling for Hook but….back to the Hookriel thread for that. I suppose most on this thread would prefer Neal & Mulan to tie that off. Or would Regina/Ariel spark interest for Emma in Hook –never know what you want til someone else wants it?.

ParticipantPhee–brilliant! So of course the explanation will be something else not as cool. (mutters about BF having no memories, fictional London link to Land without Color, and other busted theories).
I like that idea as it explains August instead of leaving us to think he was just lazy (or crazy) to be so insistent that Neal had to leave Emma. It could also be that August knew about the HO but was not following orders. If he knew they were after Neal, it would make sense to say don’t lead them to Emma. Then if they almost caught August after his conversation with Neal in Canada, it explains August stealing the money and heading to hide out in Phuket.

ParticipantBad Sheriff skills run in the family–Emma was there drinking with 18 year old Ashley, later on, David violates Maine’s seat belt laws by piling dwarves in his pickup truck.
For my head canon, I’m thinking one of the following two things:
Pre-curse and pre-Emma, an 18 year old drinking might not have been weird in SB since Maine raised it to 21 in 1983, 2 years before they wrote the curse hitting and it looked like the town just didn’t keep up with the times. Emma of course, IS a bad Sheriff and probably didn’t think about it.
Ashely drank something but we don’t know what. She could have been drinking non-alcoholic stuff, as some bars will let people 18 and over in if not served liquor, especially those that function as dance or music club type places. It looked like liquor and Ruby says “Pace yourself” so that explanation seemed a little stretched to me, so I go with Bad Sheriff.

ParticipantWait, do you mean the island itself rather than the world? While there’s nothing to suggest Hook went back and forth from FL to NL, he could have had crew explore the island to bring back information. Hook knew the Lost Ones were bad news, and knew about the mermaids. It sounded like they’d been in NL for at least a few weeks, long enough to learn some stuff about the place.

ParticipantWe don’t know how much Hook knows about NL. He knew enough to guess he could live long enough to fashion his revenge against the Dark One. He mentions mermaids, but in that series of flashbacks at least, he thinks Bae could “be the key to their very survival” in NL. That sounds like Hook didn’t feel all that safe and established at that point in time. PP wasn’t actively hunting the pirates but it seemed like the Lost Boys thought they could come and search his ship if they wanted. Yet Hook thought he could protect Bae from the Lost Ones and Bae did manage to hide the first time.
We don’t know if Hook came and went from NL repeatedly. We know he went after the Crocodile events, and we know he left before the curse hit. We don’t know where he intended to go by himself, before turning the boat around. After he has the SB crew board though, it’s the globe that determined the destination. Hook didn’t choose to go back there, so we don’t know if there’s a reason he would or wouldn’t want to go.

ParticipantI think there’s always been that hidden edge to the character of Peter Pan, as others have said, that dark side of childhood. We sometimes glamorize how kids are, as all sweet and innocent and forget that we often do call bad behavior “childish” or “immature”.
If they do make Peter permanently stuck and unable to grow up because of magic, I could see how he might eventually come to want to rid the world of magic to be free of his curse. If they bring in some of the themes in Tuck Everlasting (a novel, which Disney turned into a movie), it could soften his background story, but still leave him as dangerous. Basically focus on the idea that the magic took him out of the natural order of life and he wants to return to it.
While I was googling to try to remember the title of that novel, I stumbled on this one, about Peter Pan. This novel sounds remarkably like the theories we are kicking around….The Child Thief. That’s the page on Amazon. I haven’t read it–the reviews make the details sound way too dark for where OUAT would go with it. Just interesting because maybe the writers have seen it so would avoid anything too close to that story.
HappyEndings–that’s an interesting idea–we’ve all assumed that the HO are puppets of Pan, but it could be the other way as well.
