ParticipantSomeone had a theory that August was a lost boy and had met Neal in NL at some point during August’s saga, that NL was also Pleasure Island. I’m not entirely sure of that (timeline headaches) but maybe. That could explain how August had the picture of the dagger, and knew about Bae’s name, if he got them from PP. I’m still wondering how much August knew about the curse, and why he felt total separation was necessary between Bae and Emma. Maybe there’s more to August’s reverting to a boy then just a cheesy way to end off his story…(but I’m doubtful!).

ParticipantLol, I’m on board for any remotely plausible crack theory. It’s the fun that will get me through the next 4 months of no OUAT! That and remembering it is finally summer where I live, and I should go and enjoy it too 🙂
It is very interesting, and I like the idea that somehow Rumpel made a deal with PP to find Henry. It’s sort of a revision of the idea that the shadow was looking for Bae because Rumpel did something. I definitely think there has to be a link back to Rumpel somehow.
However, I am not sure that Rumpel provided the picture. I guess it could go either way, but I always thought Rumpel has a dawning realization that Henry is his undoing, but what he didn’t know was he was his grandson. I suppose it works if he knew the moment he had his memories back that Henry would somehow one day lead him to Bae. I’m trying to think if there’s anything inconsistent where Rumpel seemed to outright want to kill Henry before being led to Bae (that would suggest he didn’t know Henry’s face in connection with the prophecy of his undoing). There’s the ender of Season 1–but some argue that Rumpel already knew that Emma’s love would save Henry or he had forseen something along those lines enough to risk it. I think that could always be argued if Henry is in danger and Rumpel doesn’t help, so there would have to be an instance before Bae is found where Rumpel actively does something to jeopardize Henry’s life. I don’t think there is.I don’t think Rumpel tries to keep children away from bad parents otherwise, that whole Ruth–David and George-James storyline would play much differently.
The thing is, if Rumpel did make a deal with PP to find the boy who would lead him to Bae and be his undoing, then when in the timeline might it have happened? Is Rumpel taking the seers powers after Milah’s death and Hook going to NL or not?

ParticipantIt’s magic is truly the best explanation, because even with the magic v. science storyline I don’t see this show trying to be logical about things like space-time and time dilation and such. Still, I think time wouldn’t have to be passing at a constant rate difference between the lands, if the lands are moving in relation to each other.
A simpler approach for the writers then would be to assume that one doesn’t age in NL, and the journey back from there may take what seems an instant, but could lead to varying amounts of time having passed in whatever land you go to next. You could never go to your own past through NL, but you could potentially jump far into the future in the sense that years have passed in your homeland since you were gone. That would let them play with how much time Hook and Bae spend in NL without messing up continuity with FTL or LWOM.The idea that the shadow might have to do with aging is interesting. I’m still not sure I’m on board with the “Henry’s shadow is necessary for a final sacrifice” idea. I think it has to tie to the Dark One somehow.

ParticipantMaybe there is a connection to the Seer–it looked like someone used dark magic on that child to give her foresight, so perhaps that happened to Peter as well. Except unlike her, he was taken somewhere he would never age. Maybe he didn’t choose to go to NL, but was forced there to serve as an oracle for someone else?

ParticipantHm interesting…but where does the science come in? Or was that all lies? They had a lot of equipment.

Family isn’t only tied by blood, this show says that more than anything.
It also inadvertently sends the message that while Blood is not the only tie, it may be more important. Ruth sacrificing herself so Snow can be cured of being baren? What if the show had been written that the EQ gave up Emma, and Snow & Charming adopted her? There’s Neal saying Rumpel is his blood and Zoso taunting Rumpel about Bae’s paternity.
I wonder if in the second season they have been more concerned about that and therefore are trying to stress that family can be forged by choice.
As to Hook being family, I agree. Pirates are not living by societal conventions and formalities, so his relationship with Milah was every bit as valid to him and her as if they had been married. He would have raised Bae, and Henry is emotionally if not legally his step-grandson. Funny, it parallels Regina, especially if Hook were to adopt Henry because of forming a relationship with Emma (or Regina).“If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense. ParticipantExactly, Phee. How could Hook have known to leave NL and battle through Regina’s castle to Belle to ask about the dagger? This is a story we still need to see.
We can also imagine Hook found something that pushed him to return to FTL and then he found out about Belle (maybe he met Maleficient as some speculated), then all his crew died except Smee.
I wonder if Smee the rat will have snuck on to the J.R…..hm….maybe Smee has a larger role to play. How exactly did he get a magic bean of all things? Was there more to that story? It might be a good twist to find out Smee was up to shenanigans.

ParticipantKeb– I agree, they will definitely clash about collateral damage, plus how much risk they will take on for themselves versus rescuing others. The thing is, with all 3 of them, there is always the problem that something, perhaps from past choices yet to be revealed, will push them back to being at odds with the Charmings or each other.
We keep wanting to believe they will change, want to change, and have changed, but we can’t be sure until it’s time for the “Happy Ending”. Of the 3, I also agree Hook so far has done the least damage and caused the least hurt, so may be the least likely to flip back to only pursuing his own goals. Then again, he also has the most tenuous connection to the others as family. If everything turns on his sense of connection and attraction to Emma and longing for family, what happens if they find out Neal is alive? There’s bound to be some conflict, whether it is Rumpel overreacting to how Hook acts with Emma if it reminds him of Hook and Milah. Or Regina, could end up being jealous as she was when Graham preferred Emma. We never know what might inspire some bad behavior.

ParticipantI rambled into this idea on another thread–but what if the time it takes to get back from NL varies from person to person? So while you are there, time passes but you don’t age, but then when you try to go home, it could be as little as a day to as much as centuries? Just like when you compare two planes with different flight paths, one could leave later and get in earlier than the other. The only thing different is that portals always seem instantaneous to the person traveling, but may not be. That is still not time travel since you cannot go back to before you left.

ParticipantWell I still doubt BF is anything but plot device driven, but I suppose even if she did not have her memories, that doesn’t preclude her from having left herself directives to follow like that movie Memento. Maybe something hidden in the prayer books the nuns use. Now that’s a funny thought for BF.
