Yes, but cookies will be needed….and a space in the corner to huddle and rock ….I can see them leaving it that way for the hiatus.

I got the impression that he didn’t want to disrupt or help the curse nothing more than that.

Neal’s got family in this now though. Not just his Papa but his son. I think he’ll do what he has to to try and save his son.

I thought the actor’s quote is in the context of what happened 10 years ago as far as why he left Emma, not what is coming up in the finale specifically. Many people have implied that Neal left Emma because he was afraid of jail or Rumpel finding him (like what HappyEndings says about the impression Neal didn’t want to help). The actor’s words (and also the clip of A&E in that preview) kind of support the “he sacrificed himself” so Emma could break the curse idea, that he actively wanted the curse broken but to do that, he believed what August had told him, that he couldn’t be in Emma’s life.

Of course, if he is willing to sacrifice 10 years ago, he might also do something in the finale that cuts himself off from the ones he loves again, in order to save them and everyone else. Henry and Emma would give him extra motivation, sure, but he’s also thinking of the greater good.

Mercedes Lackey has written a few fairy tale reinventions. She is a fantasy genre novelist primarily, but she has a series that are a little more “romance-novel” like so for more mature readers. That series really plays with the idea of “fairy tale tradition” as an active force shaping the lives of the characters, and part of the story is how they can escape or change that.

    Stand-a-lone fairy-tale ones:
    Firebird
    The Black Swan

    Five Hundred Kingdoms Series

    The Fairy Godmother
    One Good Knight
    Fortune’s Fool
    The Snow Queen
    The Sleeping Beauty
    Beauty and the Werewolf

I do like this speculation about the Pan Shadow being caught by Bae….but I also have another idea.

Rumpel says to Bae that what Rumpel is (the Dark One) doesn’t “mix well” with fairy magic. What if the Pan shadow is something that was created when Bae fell through the vortex, like the magical part of himself was spliced off and sent somewhere else, while the non-magical part of Bae was sent on to London?
Crazy theories may be crazy…but they’re fun!

Since Mally is dead, my guess is we will only see the rest of the story play out if they can make it parallel to something else going on. It is too bad they killed her off–they had a great actress (maybe that was the problem…! All talented cast comes with a price….). Maybe the average viewer only cares about the “what happens next”–but I really love finding out more about what happened before too.

I do wonder about the Peter Pan thing. A&E talked about hisshadow more than him. Then the reporter said something like “split himself in two”….well not out of the realm of possibility as even in the original tale Peter is split from his shadow and it acts on it own.
Though it does seem like they are going a different direction and Peter Pan will be a separate (and darker) character.

    So possibilities for the wars:

1)They were not originally fighting Ogres but a spell transformed the human enemy into the brutish creatures we saw.

2)They are not as dumb or unreasonable as they appear–or they are not all so dumb, perhaps there is a Queen Bee Ogre. Along with this, is the idea they breed the dumb ones pretty fast to create hordes of the creatures and this pushes them to constantly expand their territory. This expansion happens so fast, that humans cannot resettle elsewhere quick enough (does take time to build towns and crops and not every bit of land is equally desirable).

3)There is a person with a dark power controlling them, a dark sorcerer or whatever using them as minions to fight and claim territory.

    4) some combination of the above.

As for why the Duke of the frontlands did not use Zoso to better effect possible explanations are:
    1) Zoso did not have the power
    2) The Duke had to ask and never did
3)The Duke wanted people to fight so he could gain more power

I don’t think it is 1 simply because there wasn’t a long period of time before Rumpel claimed the powers and ended the wars. I agree Rump has vastly expanded his powers beyond what Zoso had, but that took time. He eventually became far more clever than he was at that time in the story as well.

2 also seems a stretch, could the Duke have been that shortsighted?

So 3 makes the most sense. He could have stopped it, but he actually wanted the war or did not want to pay the price it would take to have Zoso stop it.

There is also 4–the writers did not think it too important and there is no real reason storywise.

well I could see this– Hook gets interested in Emma, so Regina feels she has pursue him to pay Emma back for Graham. Only, they end up really connecting. Hm if it gets any soaper, I’ll have to forgo the cookies and have a bubble bath.

I could see Regina and Hook bonding as they really do have things in common but just yet I have to agree they are not likely to bring out the best in each other.

I also wonder, how has Rumpel expanded the Dark One’s powers? Was Zoso simply not as powerful as we see Rumpel being?

Zoso was under the power of the Duke. He had his powers but he was under control and so couldn’t exercise them in the same way Rumple could, being a free agent. Also, we know Rumple spent 250+ years expanding his powers in order to make the Curse. In the Return the BF says that Rumple’s powers are no where near proficient enough to cast such a curse and Rumple basically makes it his lifes mission to become that powerful.

I speculated the Duke was simply too dumb to even try to use Zoso that way, and that Zoso couldn’ t act much on his own. Of course, Zoso could act enough to trick Rumpel…..

I definitely do think Rumpel expanded way beyond the original Dark One powers. I’m curious to find out exactly how much–specifically, if Rumpel lost the Dark One status, would he still be a powerful magic user like Regina or Emma (depending on what emotions are more dominant in him?). He said he was full of love.
